This can be a good or bad thing depending on if the person in charge genuinely cares about what's best for their people. However, a common mistake is to try and be as agreeable as possible towards everyone in an attempt to not burn any bridges with anyone. The ruler who is too focused on making easy concessions is ultimately the ruler with no power. This is the kind of thing that sounds like it might be the basis of a possible democracy initially. In the case of this land, that you are part of, you've realized things aren't going that direction. By using their influence to drown out any other opinion, those people who are the most ruthless, driven and those who got to the top first are the ones that stay there until the system crumbles. That is the train of events that led to the Republic of Rinnadun, previously called Fon’kyiton before the ruler was put into jail. You all have been thrown out of the republic and all of the surrounding nations are trained to kill people fleeing out of fear of sanctions being placed on them by the wealthiest nation and most active traders in the world. The part that isn't surrounded by nations is a frozen wasteland that few ever leave alive. The people who are expelled from the nation are tagged in two ways one of which is difficult to miss, this way trait being that their skin has been dyed Orange. This dye will eventually wear off but it takes around 30 days. Even if you survive long enough for the dye to wear off the republic implants chips in you that only deactivate when you die. If the people at the countries HQ still see that it's on after the thirty days. They alert the authorities (If there are any) in the area and put a bounty on the head of the fugitives.
You all have chosen not to adapt, and now you are left with the consequences.

There are four main languages. Tonian:The Language of Rinnadun Gredvach:The Language of Grediven Uvusyl:Language of Dretnia and Radnal Nislafin:Language of Nosalyn You can choose two languages and a language that you kind of know. I will roll some dice and see if RNGesus is on your side.

Rinnadun's immigration policy goes one way, you can enter but you can't leave. A lot of impoverished people, especially Dretnians, tend to immigrate there with the main factor encouraging this being the fantastic advertising The Republic has. These advertisement campaigns often cite how it's the richest country in the world and how many jobs are there neglecting that the huge percentage of the wealth is held at the top and the jobs available would never allow you rise to a position high enough where you could enjoy that wealth if you were an immigrant. (I will still allow wealthy immigrant characters if it's justified)

The wasteland is made up of tundras to the north and taigas to the south that is under no control of any government and as a result, a lot of black market activities happen there. however very few go there for anything except people on “business” trips. The section that does live there is mostly made up of criminals trying to escape prosecution. A large portion of these criminals are war criminals but given how long ago the war was a lot of them are pretty old. This place of lawlessness and criminals also naturally draws bounty hunters to it, some are hired by specific states and some are just freelance. A lot of this activity happens in the north. To the south there are some not so hospitable natives, they’ve staved off invaders many times through their knowledge of the land and guerilla tactics. They’re known for producing various drugs out of local fauna and flora, the outside world has little knowledge of how many different drugs there are or their effects.

Nosalyn: Nosalyn's wealth is only rivaled by Rinnadun, but its money was mostly earned through blood. They attempted to invade every listed country on the map and ruled for a long enough time to deplete a significant amount of resources. The war was ended largely because of Fon’kyiton. As the country seen as most responsible for the stopping of the war, they've held a significant amount of sway since then. Nosalyn both out of fear of what the Republic of Rinnadun could do to them now and what the other countries would do if they weren't allied with the biggest and wealthiest country on the continent have had a policy of kissing up to Rinnadun as much as possible to the point where they've essentially become a protectorate. They try to make amends to the other countries but not in any significant financial way because they're worried they'll have enough resources to enact retribution. A lot of people know a fair amount of Tonian and they're very hospitable to diplomats from Rinnadun or people with Tonian ancestry. This also means however that they're incredibly strict when it comes to people who have been banished or have tried to escape from Rinnadun. Radnal: Radnal is by far the most popular of nations, it provides a lot of food and its people are known for their fighting and fiercely independent spirit. A reputation gained in the Nosalyn war, at the beginning of the Nosalyn war, they were the first country conquered. However, they made it absolute hell for the invading forces. They raided supply shipments reclaimed entire towns and held out for months before they were retaken. Everyone loves to focus on the brave war heroes of Radnal but everyone seems to ignore what made Noslyan soldiers fear being stationed in Radnal. That being their horrifying and brutal treatment of captured soldiers and their use of things like homemade gas bombs, scalping, pitfalls with sharpened sticks that had feces on them, so on. If you ask the average citizen of most nations they'll tell you how greatly fierce and independent the country is, however, the country can't be too independent or fierce because then the two wealthiest nations on the map would stomp it into the dust. They have a fair amount of sympathizers for those who made it out of the Republic but if anyone who has to answer to the government or by extension The Republic finds out they have had no choice but to turn you in. Dretnia: Dretnia is a country that is very poor, when the war started they were woefully unprepared in terms of technology and the size of their military and they still haven't recovered from the absolute pillaging of their land. Entire sections of their cities are still condemned due to the damage they've sustained. They've had to take up massive debts to sustain themselves and Radnal has tried to assist as much as they can to keep them out from having to take out Debts from the Republic because they are afraid if they are unable to pay their debts they'll become another satellite for the Republic. Crime Syndicates are a really big issue there and the rest of the international community is afraid to give them money thinking that it'll go towards these syndicates this is justified to some extent because a lot of citizens owe them money including a lot of politicians, so naturally they have some sway in the government. Radnal is willing to take the risk of funding criminals regardless if it means having another ally against Rinnadun. Grediven: Grediven's entire foreign policy is mercenary-like in nature, although a lot of citizens wouldn't say that it is because the government spends a lot of time on public outreach. They have convinced the populous that all military actions they do are justified and that thinking otherwise is a direct insult to all the service members involved in the military. In truth though as long as there is enough monetary gain for the country or monetary gain for very specific people involved in politics they'll go to war. Under the law all donations for politicians are taken privately and without restrictions. As a result all a nation has to do to make them go to war is bribe the right people and they'll have a new ally. Their war machine is heavily used so it's very well tuned, the soldiers are experienced but not necessarily stable. A lot of the countries that are not aligned with the Republic have started hiring a lot of soldiers from them to supplement their forces. So they already have equipment and soldiers all over the continent.
