*unlurks* In addition to the comments in this thread, I might also add that sometimes feeling nothing is a self-protection mechanism. Psychologically speaking, it's the mind's own way to protect a person. It's not nihlism, but rather a way for self control, because sometimes when the emotional floodgates are opened, the effects would be negative/undesirable. Thus the mind just adds a bit of padding to lessen the impact of shock or bad news.
