Eh, not good enough for me. When halving the number one efficiently square root the amount of movements one has available in a pinch. Also, it is unfriendly when trying to heal. If one unit is needed somewhere, the other cannot support somewhere else. Movement of units become a pain. It becomes harder to stabilize exp levels because units become restrained and it becomes more difficult to land the finishing blow you want. Besides, the upgrades one get are minor compared to the worth of actually having another. I mainly use pairing in a pinch (look at current situation) or for moving further than I could otherwise do (join a unit further ahead, the unit moves forward and drops immediately).
