My advice would be to punch through and massacre the apparent leader first, hitting them with what we have until they go down while cutting down the others if they attempt to stand in the way; an all or nothing. The entire camp cannot be fought off and the camp itself is burning, meaning they risk losing some relative amount of it to fire. Either they pursue us, the slaves, or deal with the fire, or split some number of their forces to do so, meaning it is less likely they will manage an efficient chase. I reason they might be more concerned with the fire and us, but however many slaves fleeing are a fair distraction as well, especially if they do start to scatter in a panic.
