Gender: Male Age: 42 Alignment: Neutral Evil Rank:- Objective for the Grail: To reach the source and use the knowledge gained from the Akashic Records to further expand the power and influence of the O.S.C. Command Seal: A heptagram. Personality: A shrewd and calculating man, Martin's time as a member of the Order of the Sacred Circle has shaped him into a rather astute individual. Playing the game of politics and study with his fellows, his students, and those of rival societies. Bio: Born to a wealthy Virginian family, Martin spent his youth being raised as a Southern Gentleman. He took eagerly to studying, though the coming of the American Civil War would greatly hamper the quality of his education as his family's resources were put towards the war effort. His elder brothers, military men at the outset of the war, eagerly enlisted to fight for their newfound country. Eventually the end of the war came, and with it the oppressive reconstruction of the victorious Union. Martin cared little for matters of politics though, and focused further on studies into philosophy, theology, and the natural sciences. During his time at university, he would come to find a future so different from any he would have imagined as a boy. It was here that, as a gentleman of fine breeding and standing (despite the ravages of the war), he was introduced by one of his instructors to the Order of the Sacred Circle. An esoteric society which claimed its existence to trace back to the knowledge and mysteries of Hermes Trismigestus, and the rule of Solomon. The O.S.C was one of many esoteric societies rising to prominence in the modern age. Whether the stories of its ancient roots held any truth or not was irrelevant to the fact that it was a gathering of many scholars of the occult and metaphysics. Men of wealth and secular power who through many means (legitimate or otherwise) had gathered a massive collection of grimoires, manuscripts, and all manner of relics and objects of some power. The young initiate eagerly and quickly consumed the knowledge given to him, bit by bit from his master and other superiors. By the time he had earned his degree, he had become a proper member of the Order, and had begun teaching initiates of his own. Rapidly as he could, he rose through the ranks and was inducted into the higher mysteries of the O.S.C. All the while he conducted his own research, delving into the realm of spirits and the nature of the human soul. Within a decade he would become one of the most learned and respected members of the Order, leaving a trail of bitter rivals, jilted partners, and dead bodies behind him in the pursuit of knowledge and power. Soon came the day that he would, as so many other magi in the past had done, face his former master and take what knowledge was his alone. It was not some grand, climactic battle of sorcerers, but the slow and horrid destruction of a tired old man. Soon enough the ruin Martin had brought wasted the man away to his grave, leaving an open position within the inner circle of the O.S.C., and a treasure trove of work left to his most successful student. Now as a Master of the Circle, Frater Marcus has continued to increase his influence and power within the O.S.C., and working tirelessly to help guide his brothers and acolytes so that their brotherhood might become an organization to rival the long standing magickal organizations of the Old World. --- Magic Circuit Switch: Visualizing the tetra-polar magnet. Number of Magic Circuits: E Quality of Magic Circuits: D --- Elemental Affinity: Fire Magecraft: General Magecraft: The fundamentals of magickal practice and theory taught to him by the O.S.C. It is similar enough to that taught and practiced by clockwork mages. The history, philosophy, and theory of magickal rites, alchemical research, astrological reading and charting, and their practical applications. Formalcraft: By far the most practiced form of magick performed by members of the O.S.C., rituals are an integral part to their paradigm and the mysteries of their brotherhood. High magick meant to raise the spirit and enlighten the mind, as they delve into the workings of the universe itself. Familiar crafting: Frater Marcus has long been intrigued by the existence of spirits, both crafted and naturally occuring. As such, he is quite the expert in the creation and calling of such entities to service him (or at least hinder others). He is particularly fond of using what he calls 'imps' and 'elementaries'. Imps are mindless spirits of hunger, which latch onto humans and pushes the individual towards increasingly powerful extremes of emotion. Anger, paranoia, despair, pride, etc. The creatures feed on the mental energy produced by such powerful emotion, and will continue to gorge themselves until removed, or the host is driven insane or to their death. Elementaries are clever spirits, yet lack any true sense of 'intelligence'. They are used as unseen servants, messengers, and even assassins at times. They have the power to inflict curses onto others, cause nightmares, and whisper dark thoughts to those they follow. Crest: None. Weapon: Book of Rituals: A thick, leatherbound book filled with all manner of ritual circles meant for various different functions and rites. It is also filled with various incantations and names of reference for summoning purposes. Crest of the Sacred Circle: A pin worn on Martin's lapel, it is a trinket shared by all full brothers of the O.S.C.: a heptagram set into bronze, its many points interconnected. But unlike the mundane versions worn by his fellows, Martin's has been crafted to contain a bounded field designed to protect himself and his unseen servants within a small area around him. Blade of the Brotherhood: A dagger that has been used in thousands of rituals over the decades that Martin has been a member of the Order. In such time it has become a powerful sympathetic object, lending greater power towards the rituals performed by those who wield it. The blade can be used to store and convert energy. Exceptional Benefit: As a Master of the O.S.C., Martin has access to the resources provided by such a well funded organization. Among these are a dozen acolytes, full Brothers who continue their studies under the guidance of Frater Marcus. [/hider]
