She is petite and wiry, and usually frowning.
[sub]Characterization[/sub]
Blunt Intelligent Snarky Anxious Boyish
[sub]Personal History[/sub]
Jin’s parents, Richard and Yumiko, met at an international university in a political science course. Despite a myriad of personal, cultural and social differences, they fell tumbling into love and married after graduation. Richard became a detective and Yumiko worked with the the city’s mayor. They were happy and successful, and together nearly 7 years before having a bouncing baby girl named Jinayah. Another 5 years saw tragedy strike. A break in occurred at their home one winter night, and Richard and Yumiko were found dead, shot by an unknown assailant. Their daughter, who had just started kindergarten, was nowhere to be found. It was another year before they found Jin, who was caught trying to break into a convenience store. With her father having no living relatives, Jin was sent overseas to live with her mother’s brother. Jin’s uncle Tairo, and aunt Misaki were both happy to take in their niece, and yet hurt by the circumstances. They did their best with the little girl and tried to help her fit in. They changed her name officially to her their family name, they took her to theme parks and festivals, and tried to be the best parents they could. It took a very long time for Jin to be able to open up and trust again. Jin was never quite sure of the first time she understood she was different. Maybe it was elementary, in a class photo, where she was far too easy to pick out. Maybe one summer when someone told her that she didn’t have to worry about tanning, or when she overheard someone referring to her as “Hafu” for the first time, and she had to go home and look it up online. Whatever the cause, her personality shifted dramatically in her first year of middle school. She went from trying to fit in to actively going against the grain. She stood up for the outcasts, and didn’t even try to pretend she was “normal”. In her mind, someone had to defend the people on the outside. The ones who weren’t like everyone else, the ones who didn’t fit in or fall in line. Those people, too, needed a hero. This behavior caused no end of worry from her aunt and uncle. When it came time to pick high schools, Ishin was suggested as a place that could hone her spirit into something proper. Jin did enough reading to understand the school’s reputation, and what she read burned her up. She knew, that this school would be her first test. She’d make Ishin understand that she belonged, just as much as anyone, and she would be a great hero of ALL of Japan.
[sub]Character Development & Conceptualization[/sub]
I wanted to play with the idea of a character with a chip on their shoulder and a lot to say about it. Jin is as close as I can write to a bully, and I want to push the idea of someone who constantly lashes out in a place where that isn’t tolerated. Either she learns to bend, or she breaks entirely. I want to know what lies beneath that kind of personality, behind all the anger and snapping. Also, Jin feels like a fish out of water. She doesn’t feel American anymore, and there are some who will forever treat her like she isn’t Japanese. She expects everyone to hurt her, eventually, and while she’d be loathe to admit it, she is constantly waiting for that pain. She’s used to being alone, and to have that challenged would bring her to an unknown point. Finally, I want to see if I can make a hero out of someone without the usual personality. All Jin has is raw stubbornness. She’s not naturally kind or gentle, most of her would rather not start a fight- because she knows that fight has to end with her winning, no matter the cost. Can someone lonely, angry and afraid have what it is to be a hero?

Abilities & Talents

[sub]Quirk Type[/sub]
Emitter
[sub]Quirk Description[/sub]
One Shot: She can hit anything she can see within 50 yards, but only with objects about the size of a ping pong ball and larger. Jin can curve her shots to hit her target. This takes time, however, and she has to concentrate to hit a faster moving target. If she can’t see her target, she will hit the next closest thing. Without a set target, One Shot is rather useless. The objects she throws or launches are still many of the laws of physics. Heavier objects take more force to throw and aim, while lighter ones are easier but not as forceful. Overuse of her Quirk causes severe migraines. Jin can tell they're coming when her color vision starts to distort. Usually she can't push herself past that point, as migraines cause all of her senses to go out of whack. The more she pushes past the initial symptoms, the more she will pay for it later. Her worst migraine lasted 3 days.
[sub]Other Talents & Attributes[/sub]
-Intelligence: Jin, despite her unfavorable personality, is rather intelligent. Her high test scores were part of what got her accepted. She loves math and mechanics, and if she burns out as a hero she’ll go to university for an Engineering degree. -Side Job: Jin fixes computers and phones for money, and she’s quite good at it. Most things require a reboot or a drive cleaning, and she also takes requests for custom builds. This may turn into something she does in the summer, now that she’s entering high school. -Natural Aim: Jin was in the archery club in middle school, and could have been Captain if she’d chosen to apply for it. She took up the sport because it was a challenge to not use her Quirk – like most sports teams, most Quirks had to not be used, or be harshly vetted to prevent unfair advantage or cheating of any kind. She had to rely on her own eyes and arms and skill, and she loved it. Even without her Quirk, she understands where and how something needs to go to hit a target. -Big Eater: Jin likes food. She's got a quick metabolism, and always seems to be hungry. -Bilingual: Despite being away from America so long, Jin still maintains her English with weekly practice. She has a habit of tossing foreign words into her speech when she’s particularly excited.
