His father had a certain disdain for the church and his grand father more so calling them 'haggard laggards who couldn't handle a beer let alone anything sacrilegious.' Leon himself had not found issue with the church but he was raised in the backwoods he didn't have much to base his knowledge on. What they have planned is unknown to us however it is known that the forest is not natural likely it is a by product of magic or their own illusionist power. Perhaps they had just grown it there to give themselves cover.
