We slay who we wilt. Let the Emperor judge the righteousness of our deeds." - Sergeant D'Kestrel, Raven Guard 1st Company
Masters of Protelus
The Masters of Protelus are one of those Chapters about which pretty much nothing is known in Imperial records – whether due to destruction of records by themselves or another, or simply due to clerical error within the Administratum (the latter probably being the most likely); even the Chapter itself comes up short when in need of information and, for this very reason, what records it does have go back only as far as the last few millennia. What is known is that they are a largely Codex-compliant Chapter, if with a larger-than-average number of assault troops contained in its numbers, its warriors recruited primarily from the Feral World of Protelus in the Ultima Segementum – a world where various city-states are caught in what on ancient Terra would have been known as the 'Bronze Age', civilizations constantly expanding and shrinking as the Masters watch on from a fortress-monastery literally carved into the highest mountain on the planet. Terrain on the world varies from temperate continents of lush plains, to scorching deserts, and high-peaked ranges spanning entire continents. It is from the largest and foremost civilisation of Protelus, an island-dwelling but also seafaring empire with connections across the planet, that the Chapter took their iconography of a twin-headed axe and the colours of their armour. Many of their beliefs and customs are also taken from this people, the majority of the Chapter recruited from the eight-thousand three-hundred-and-thirty-six kilometre island where the empire has its capital city. The 10th (Scout) Company of the Chapter, that which concerns the current group, are selected from the young men of the planets various kingdoms and nations and, specifically, from the bodies of fighters that make up their armies. These range from smaller groups of warriors bonded to a warlord all the way to semi-professional armies of hundreds of thousands, only the finest selected to undertake the process of becoming one of the Emperor's finest. Many and varied are the trials that can be set in order for a Scout to become a fully-fledged Astartes, from blood-sports to ritual combat, as long as the neophytes are alive at the end of it they have taken their first steps toward higher honours and a venerable suit of power armour along with it.
Important
Before anyone asks. No, you cannot be from another chapter, no you cannot be a full fledged space marine and no you can't be an Ork, or a T'au or anything else. You are playing scout marines of the Masters of Protelus Chapter. Also for anyone interested here is a link to the wiki page for the Masters of Protelus. There isn't much written about them canon wise which is exactly why I picked them for this RP. They have no established personality quirks or customs to be played around that are known. Some of these details can be made up. Small ceremonies, a figure of speech unique to the chapter maybe. All things the players are free to talk about and that I would actively encourage!
The Story to Date:
Not all conflicts are those of large-scale warfare, of millions of lives lost in an instant, of behemoths clashing in space and on the ground. This is quite the opposite. For the Masters of Protelus the splitting of the galaxy, the coming of Guilliman once more, and the sudden influx of Primaris Marines was all taken in their stride and, for their part at least, they are doing what they can to shore up the Imperium against further assault before taking the fight to the enemy once more; before this happens, however, there is something that they must do, something concerning the Chapter. There is a signal being emitted from world-wide jungles of the planet Formenos, a signal encoded with a very specific set of battle-cant used by the Masters in their operations. The exact location of the signal cannot be fathomed due to interference from both the jungle canopy and, more disturbingly, something apparently on the planet. Nevertheless the Chapter Master has decided that a seek-and-investigate operation would be the perfect testing grounds for the newest batch of recruits and initiates into the 10th Company. Under the stern gaze and fist of Sergeant Epimenes the greenest of the scouts, some five squads of them, descend to the surface of Formenos with instructions to locate the signal, analyse the situation, and then vox back to the main Masters force in orbit. What could possibly go wrong?
Character Creation

Character creation has just a few simple rules. Keep yourselves in check and don't try to make a demigod. Interesting, nuanced characters are cool. Characters with strengths and weaknesses and potentially damning flaws. As far as creating a Space Marine goes, even a junior one, plus you are obviously playing the titles heroes of the story, there is obviously the expectation you are already well above the average. That's fine, just keep it within that sphere of power. Character Creation Sheet: Name: If this has to be explained to anyone than I am sorry, there is no hope for you! Our Chapter is roughly Minoan/Mycenaean-based, so ethnic Grecian names are more likely than not. I recommend this site if you need ideas: https://tekeli.li/onomastikon/Ancient-World/Greece/Male.html Age: As you are all newly minted scouts you are all around 19-20 years old. But still superhuman in proportions of raw intelligence, reflexes and boosted strength. Appearance: Pictures are fine here, no anime is all I ask. A written description is fine as well (and preferred, honestly). Equipment: Scout carapace armour is a given for this. With a group this small I would rather not have everyone take up a sniper rifle. One should be fine. Keeping in mind equipment swapping may be necessary between assignments or on the fly as ammunition and supplies start to dwindle. Other gear might be possible; if there is something you really, really, want pitch it to me and I will think on it. Background: the memories of your former life are still fresh in your minds at this point. Not diluted from centuries worth of time. I don't need a novella here, but give me more than a paragraph. This should also provide all the information one might need on Scouts.
If anyone has any questions, then please ask me - I much prefer this than someone not asking me and essentially making mistakes.
