She was feeling significantly more relaxed now, even if there was still some remaining nervousness about making sure her wedding party made it to the hotel okay. To further calm herself to optimal levels, Cole’s brown eyes had been exploring the bright, energetic scenes of the Vegas nightlife. She’d raised the pipe to her lips to take that one last, deep drag of pot when she heard the sound of a balcony door opening and closing to her left. Curious, she turned her head in that direction while still pulling from the pipe, expecting to see one of hers or Darien’s friends. Instead, waving at her with a smirk and a cigarette on his lips, she found herself looking straight at none other than... Quinn The sudden sight of him made her choke on the last puff taken from the very same pipe he’d given to her as a birthday gift five years previously. She began to cough, eyes watering and smoke coming out of her mouth and nostrils as she tried to expulse the smoke that had gone through the wrong conduct of her respiratory tract. Once she did, she was free to simply stop and stare in silent disbelief at the wild-haired young man in the balcony right next to hers. During the four years of her college career, Cole had spent her life alongside the one and only Quinn Lloyd. The two had met at a frat party on the first week of their freshman year; and from the moment their eyes had met across the room, their connection had been instant. He’d wasted no time in seeking her out, easily getting the award of being the flirtiest guy she’d ever come across in her life. She’d loved it, though. Quinn had this dorky yet charming vibe about him: so different from the rest of the cocky, asshole beefcakes in attendance. She’d quickly been attracted not only to his personality, but to those wild dark curls, the sparkling green eyes, and the smile so bright it put the full moon of that night to shame. They’d danced and drank all night, eventually ending up between the sheets of his dorm in what Cole could only describe as one of the most magical nights of her life. Apparently, that first encounter hadn’t been enough to satisfy them, because a week later came the long-awaited text inviting her to ‘come chill out at my dorm’. Even though Quinn had tried his best to act as if there was no ulterior motive for her visit, they both knew the real purpose behind it. He’d been gentleman enough to heavily flirt to assess her reactions to the developing situation, but one kiss from Cole was enough for him to know it was time to talk less and act more. And so, the second encounter was another mind-blowing success. Even if they didn’t know it at the time, there was an unspoken certainty between them that this would be just one of many more to come. As time passed by, the hang-outs became more frequent and began to shift in tone. Soon enough they were spending less time in the bedroom and more time getting to know each other: going out on dates, studying together, or simply enjoying each other’s company. Though they’d never officially popped the question, they began to refer to each other using the words ‘boyfriend’ and girlfriend, and those who knew them quickly figured out that Q & C came as a package deal. The two love birds were so incredibly happy together, sharing and building memories, traveling the world, and simply growing up alongside each other. But just when they thought things couldn’t get any better, Cole tore everything to pieces when she decided to move back home. The worst part? Even when she knew it in her heart without a single doubt, she’d never once told Quinn she loved him. It was her truth and it would haunt her forever. Not everything was her fault, though. In Cole’s defense, Quinn had never said the “L” word to her either. He had also never shown any interest in her staying in Cali, opting instead to accept things without so much as an attempt to fight for her. Was that the attitude of a man in love? She sure as hell didn’t think so. “Huh. So you actually made it, Alan,” Cole told managed to say out loud, eyes still wide with genuine shock. Her foggy mind was torn between feeling stunned at the realization that Quinn really was here at her wedding and the overwhelming amount of memories that flooded her as soon as she saw the face of the man she’d been so head over heels in love with.
