She lived in the middle of nowhere. Her house was nestled between a few trees, providing a form of protection from the eyes of others. The house itself was kind of small but nice. It didn't look old and run-down, which is what I'd expect a house that is in a place like this to look like. For some reason, as I looked around a nervous feeling began to form in the pit of my stomach. I got a bad feeling about this… Granted, it could just be the fact it's very dark outside and that this looks like the start of a horror film that I'm feeling uneasy once again. But if I've learned anything over the years it's to always trust your gut. I slide my handgun out and get it cocked and ready for any possible enemy that may jump out at me. I just can't seem to catch a break. I slowly walk towards the front door, making sure to keep my eyes peeled for any movement and my steps quiet as to not alert anyone, or anything, that may be here. I unlock the door and slowly open it, waiting a few moments before stepping in. It is pitch black inside so I look around for a light switch. I quickly find one near the front door. The light above me turns on. I go through the house doing the same thing in each room. As I do, I look around carefully to see if anyone is there. After going through all the rooms and turning on the lights, I make my way back to the kitchen. I set my gun on the island and go to get a glass of water. I feel puzzled. Something still feels off. I feel as though something terrible could happen at any moment yet, there's nothing and nobody around to cause any harm. This can't be right. My gut feeling has never been wrong. Though I suppose there is a first time for everything... After taking a few drinks of water and setting my glass down, I decided to look around once again. I head to the living room first. It still looks the same. No signs of somebody else being here. I notice a book on the coffee table and go to pick it up. It's a book about art from the renaissance era. Interesting. I didn't think someone like her would be interested in topics like that. I set the book down. I hear the sound of a door opening and closing and of footsteps. I quickly reach for my gun. I feel nothing. My eyes widen as I remember I left my handgun in the kitchen. Damn! I go to plan B and take out my knife. I get into position and wait as the footsteps get closer and closer. As they turn the corner and enter the room, I lunge for them… and they block my attack. They push me back, making me lose my balance for a moment before I quickly regain it. "Hey!" The person says "What the hell are you doing?!" "Who are you?" I ask, defensively "My name's James. I was at the bar during the attack." "I don’t remember seeing you fighting." "Yeah, I was kind of in the middle of having a drink." He replies "How did you get here?" "Helicopter." I stare at him in disbelief. "Helicopter? You rode a helicopter?" "You bet." I continue to stare at him. "How did you… you know, I don't wanna know." As I put away my knife, I turn to walk back to the kitchen but I'm stopped by James. "So, you're not going to explain why you almost killed me?" "No." I reply "Why?" "I don't feel the need to explain to you why." I tell him, as I start to walk away "Now, wait just a moment. I-" Suddenly, two people jump through the windows in the living room. The sound of glass shattering comes from other places in the house, a sign that more people have broken in. "You take the ones upstairs!" I yell to James "I'll take care of the bastards down here." The man nods and runs off towards the other assailants. I turn back to the men in front of me. One of the men lunges at me with a knife. I lean away, grab his arm, and pull him towards me. I kick him in the crotch and give him an uppercut to his chin. He stumbles and falls to the ground. The second man tries to sidekick me. I block it and kick him in his shin. As he begins to fall to the ground, I knee him in the chin, a loud crack following as his head shoots back. I grab his shoulder and punch him in the gut several times before turning him around and snapping his neck. Making sure not to make the same mistake I made at the bar, I ducked and rolled away from the position I was in, avoiding the first man who was surely going to try and choke me from behind. I get my knife out as the man runs towards me. I charge towards him. He raises his arm, getting ready to deliver a powerful punch but I duck out of the way and swing onto his back, jamming my knife into his skull. As the limp body falls to the ground, I roll off of it. Standing and breathing heavily, I start to walk towards the stairs, intending to go assist James when suddenly I feel a bullet fly past my face. My body stiffens. I slowly turn around to see the face of the person who'll inevitably meet their end tonight but I'm unable to see any facial features. For the man standing across the room from me is wearing a mask the covers their entire face. That's not the only notable thing about him, though. He also happens to have a metal arm… with a red star on his shoulder. "Солдат." I say, using my native language and natural accent "Я предполагаю, что это был всего лишь предупредительный выстрел?" {Translation: Soldier. I presume that was just a warning shot?} He says nothing. Typical. "Так, я полагаю, что Гидра сделала со мной? Я потеряла благосклонность к ним?" I ask {Translation: So, I take it Hydra's done with me? I've lost favor with them?} "У них больше нет пользы для общего убийцы." He replies, finally speaking. {Translation: They have no use for a common assassin anymore.} "И это не то, что вы?" I take a few steps towards him "Вы не маленький кукольный убийца Hydra?" {Translation: And is that not what you are? Are you not Hydra's little puppet assassin?} He stays silent for a few moments before speaking "Если кто-то кукольный убийца это, или, вернее, был, вы." {Translation: If anyone's a puppet assassin it is, or rather was, you.} "Туш, солдат." I reply "По крайней мере, мне платят за мою "общий убийца " работы. Не положить в хранилище, как вы." {Translation: Touche, soldier. At least I get paid for my "common assassin" work. Not put in storage like you."} The Winter Soldier says nothing in return. Instead, he takes the ammo out of his rifle and throws it outside behind him. He then flips out his knife. A dark chuckle escapes from my lips. "Это должно быть весело." I say with a smirk {Translation: This should be fun.} I charge towards him with my knife, as he just walks at a quick pace towards me. Once we get close enough though we both go hard at each other. Knives slashing, fists flying. Although we've both received different training, we are both fairly equal in skill. It is almost an honor to fight him. He manages to get in some hits and kicks, though. I'll definitely be incredibly bruised in the morning and with his impeccable knife skills I know I'm going to have a few wounds from that after this the fight. That being said, he will not walk away from this fight without scratch either. His legs are definitely a weak spot so I make sure to kick and slash at them a few times, though not enough to make it a pattern. The Winter Soldier is smart. Unpredictable. I have to be the same way when going up against him. The fight continues for several minutes, neither of us seem to get the upper hand for long and neither one of us seem to tire. It was hard to tell who might come out on top. I decide to try out something new I had been working on but had yet to try it out on another poor soul. It starts off like one of my usual moves. I duck an oncoming punch from him and then deliver an uppercut to his chin but then I turn around and wrapped an arm around the back of his neck, delivering a few elbow hits to his stomach with my free arm before using both to toss him in front of me. Breathing heavily, I watch as he struggles a bit as he begins to push himself up from the ground. I decide to take advantage of this moment by kicking his face. It won't do as much damage as it usually does since he's wearing a mask but it certainly will leave him with several bruises on his face, hopefully a broken nose too. I position myself and throw my leg at him, feeling confident I'll win this fight. All that confidence goes away in a snap when the Winter Soldier uses his metal arm to grab my foot, turning me around and pulling me to the ground in one, fluid motion. I hit the ground with a loud thud and groan. Hearing the sound of him cocking his gun, I quickly turn myself onto my back and kick the gun out of his hand. I jump to my feet, having to duck once again as the Winter Soldier throws more punches. This time I'm on the defensive. I do my best to block his attacks and try to get in a few hits myself but it isn't so easy anymore. I manage to kick him in the gut which makes him fall back against a wall. I grab my knife from the ground and jump at him, hoping to stab his head but his reflexes are quick and he moves out of the way in time, leaving me with my knife in the wall. I don't even get a chance to try to get my knife out as the Winter Soldier immediately grabs my body, runs across the room and slams me into the wall. My vision goes blurry for a minute and I feel a cold hand wrap around my neck. The Winter Soldier begins to choke me. As I struggle for breath, I try to pry his hand away or get in a punch or something. I attempt to kick him but he stabs my left thigh with his free hand. I cry out in pain as my vision gets blurrier. I struggle to think of a way out of this situation. I just keep clawing at his arm, trying to push it away but it's obviously futile… then something happens. I begin to feel something surging through my fingers. Something powerful. Something… cold. I blink several times in an attempt to clear my vision so I could see what's going on. Some of the blurriness goes away and I'm able to make out a blue film that is growing over the soldier's arm. I hear the sounds of metal creaking and suddenly an explosion occurs, forcing the Winter Soldier back and onto the ground. As I fall to the floor, wheezing and coughing as the air starts to fill my lungs once more, I look over at the Winter Soldier to see the Winter Soldier standing and... his robotic arm destroyed. Wires were hanging out from his artificial bicep that connected to his, now dangling, hand. His forearm was nowhere to be seen. I stared at him in shock and awe as he looked at what was left of his arm. After looking over his arm, he turned his head to look at me. Then, in about the blink of an eye, I saw him raise his knee and rotate his upper body and then… Darkness.
