OK, I hope this is better. I didn't intend for "well-read" to be a blanket trait to cover academic and practical ability, but rather having some very basic knowledge or memory of a concept and the ability to recognize and build upon it when needed (for example: "This monster looks like a vampire. They are said t be weak to silver, we should try that." or " This room is a dead end. Perhaps we should scour the room for a hidden passage just in case." Which of course doesn't mean he's always right.). I honestly just didn't find a correct phrase or word in English to describe what I meant so my bad there. I swapped it around to something similar that I also considered, which shouldn't have any issues with clarity.
