These are tentatively finished profiles...
Appearance: He is a somewhat tall and imposing figure clad in black with a gray cape and cowl, and wearing the bird mask of a plague doctor. This is, of course, due to his profession. No, not as a doctor, although medicine can be seen within his trade. He is an alchemist, and these items warn are to protect him from dangerous exposures and generally aid him in his exploits. And although he is not so physically strong as a fighter, per se, what he has is quickness and agility, spring in his step and speed in his feet. For is it not thus, that you cannot hope to outrun explosions otherwise? Indeed, good sir. Indeed. Underneath this spooky garb, though, is a man who seems decent enough to look at. Dark-blue eyes, black hair, a pleasant...if devious...smile. There lies with this one that spark of madness. You can see it in his eyes, mind always alive with ideas and compounds. Species: Human Name: Professor Daryl Von Madness Title: Master of Change Gender: Male Age: 27 Background: Earth sucks. Everybody knows it, and everybody is at fault. That's the awful truth, and it isn't one that Daryl liked. Yeah, his real name is Daryl. He wouldn't care if people across the globe knew that. Why would it matter when the chance of anyone coming to your home because you used your first name online were nil to the point of zero? There were other reasons, simpler reasons, but that to happen. Because, right now, Earth sucks. Might've mentioned. He was raised in a world where pollution had gone out of control, where his parents wanted the best for him, but there wasn't really a 'best' to offer him, only a kind of desire or a hope, a goal. Like what? Like a chance to put things back, if at all possible. The world - or at least countries in it - was pretty much owned by corporations, conglomerates, rich business types, and so on. It was sort of like this old tabletop game made over a hundred years ago where magic had returned to the world and technology had soared, but so had the dangers of the entire world, where you'd be some kind of mercenary running the shadows in order to make your living. Real life wasn't that interesting, sad to say. Yes, at a time like this, you pine for even a crapsack world that doesn't exist. But what Daryl's father wanted was a world where the sciences pushed back this pollution enough to recover some of the land and make the world more liveable again. Pipe dream? Maybe, but his dad was working for a chemical research company whose owners decided that the best way to increase profits was to find some way to remove the poison in the air or bring it down enough to make Earth more liveable. More than being hailed as heroes, people would be tripping over each other to give them everything, just to breathe a little easier. They wanted to be the new gods, and as much as that was a selfish ego trip, it had a positive effect. If they could chemically treat the air to be more pure, someone else could find a way to breed plants back into the world agaiin, and someone else could handle another problem. The possibility was so hopeful back then that not only was his old man into it, but so was Daryl. He wanted to learn, he wanted to throw himself into this. The going for that...was a bit rough. There was plenty enough knowledge in their home to get him into it, to learn the elements, molecular chains, and all that business. But for school...that was a little difficult. His father was basically getting a small bonus to work overtime on what was putting a price on altruism, saving the world and all that crap. It didn't put them in the tuition bracket. That required a bit of a deal... He managed to convince someone higher up that educating Daryl meant making him viable in the future for where and what he wanted to work at, in future time, and a loan was made. This turned his bonus into a paycut, which made things very hard at home, but that just made Daryl more dedicated. However, even as the years passed and he slowly-but-surely became a man...the daunting nature of the problem became more clear. This was something that NOBODY had ever done. No one. The company was getting all kinds of research done in the interim, putting the competition in day-to-day business behind them, for a pittance. They were not worried. As long as they got to make more profit in the interim, the project could take decades, for all they cared, and the project was already reaching its second as Daryl became a young chemical engineer. Truthfully, it seemed like the men up top had no confidence in the project at all. They were content that they were pushing farther, and that is why they did not cancel it. During the darkest days of potential disillusionment, when he could get some time, his manditory rest periods were spent doing what haad started while he was still getting educated to now, the MMO known as YGGDRASIL. This was a fantasy world, a magitek world, and a brutal world...but it was somehow more pure, desireable, and fun. He didn't join the Guild in the beginning. He hadn't even known that they existed. No, he began on his own, initially, out of a desire to explore and to experiment. The game's system of magic and alchemy was nowhere near as difficult as actual chemistry, which was why he spent alot of time working on two things. The first was his abilities. He had magic, but the alchemy offered some possibilities that magic alone could not cover. He could produce his own potions, for one, and it went far beyond that. Indeed, he had begun to test out new and different formulas, create explosives, and look into new possibilities. At this time, of course, he came across people who wanted to attack him in his comparatively-weak form. That was where his second focus, his escapes. Smoke bombs, bad status fields, and teleporting at complete random became his means of eluding trouble. It didn't matter where he ended up. Monsters were predictable. People were not. One day, however, the mad professor felt that he had accrued enough combat ability to truly make an impact. The bird-masked fellow became synonymous with chaos, as he brewed and tossed around potions and tinctures that would alter the face of every battlefield, every fight, and every being he flung it at. This was his calling, as the alchemic genius, the prestigeous potion-maker, the Master of Change! The actual character's backstory was a simple one, telling of a man who - while being of ordinary upbringing - was the descendant of a madman. No, not A madman, but THE madman, Baron Von Madness! Yes, the Baron, who was a skilled and cunning rogue and villainous mastermind! Some say that he was an affluent gentleman of noble birth that simply lost it one day. Others say that he was of fae descent and was never quite right, from beginning to end. Indeed, others wonder if he ever died in the first place. He had offspring, and a humble sorcery with a talent for mixing concoctions was one of them! He told this to a fellow player and the other guy laughed and said "Buddy, is there ever a Guild for you.". It took a little time and messaging, but he managed to get them on board with allowing him to join. A truly powerful Guild would give him one thing that he definitely lacked in his adventures...and that was companionship. Personality: And herein lies the duality of Daryl... In his normal everyday life, Daryl is calm, studious, and possessing a high work ethic. He IS dedicated to his work, but the time he's put into this has been steadiily making him more cynical about it. He is irritated, sometimes grumpy, at the lack of results and having to spend any of his work hours on anything but the project. No one was allowed to work on that exclusively, though, which meant that progress was a snail's pace by comparison to what it could be. That was what put Daryl in mind for a little escapism. He was too serious with his life, because life was too serious, overall. His capacity for play suffered somewhat, only satiated by YGGDRASIL, which he loves. When he dons the mask to become the mad professor, he's able to cut loose and think how he wants, not to worry about his day-to-day life, about how everything sucks and it was all probably going to die. That was the reason for ALOT of escapism, but you can imagine how hard that might weigh on someone who's trying to DO something about it. The Master of Change tends to speak in the tone of an off-the-cuff and unhinged sort of guy. His indoor voice takes a powder every once and a while, especially when he feels a might bit maniacal. He can be described as devious, coy, highly-educated, and even humorous as the situation calls for it. These are overshadowed in times when he is delivering a mad announcement, followed by evil laughter...and he's good at the laughter. It can be said that the game is simply thereputic for him, as though he needs some kind of release and perception of being successful and brilliant to keep him from worrying about how his life goals don't seem to be panning out. Tragedy is always worse for those who care, and that is ultimately what dwells within Daryl. He is a caring individual who wants to fix stuff, change it, alter its outcome - the things he's always believed in and wanted to do his entire life. It's all he has, unless somebody out there comes up with some kind of miracle. Spells with effects attached, much like alchemic potions, are more their style. Greater Acid Storm - A damage-over-time AoE spell at the top tier of the acid track. Weakens or outright destroys equipmentcarried by all but the caster as they are harmed by a continuous acidic rain. Obscuring Chaotic Mist - A swirling mist of chaotically-charged particles that reduces visibility to a great degree and gradually damages enemy targets with chaos damage. A high immunity to blindness is required to see farther than a few feet into the mist. Greater Sonic Blast - A sudden shockwave blast fired outwards from the caster. It assaults the senses and causes force damage to all targets in range. Said targets will be unable to concentrate on Spells or Actions for a short time. Full Moon Madness - Crazy dancing lights shoot through the area to cause a great drop in accuracy and evasion, as well as a high chance of the confusion status, while in the area of effect and one minute after. Plague of Ages - An area-of-effect bio-poison spell that reduces all physical stats and afflicts those in range with a poison status that eats away at the HP bar. Requires a potion of greater antidote or equivalent spell to lift in the field. Curse of Ages - An area-of-effect darkness-hexing spell that reduces all magical stats and afflicts those in range with a mana burning status, eating away at the MP bar. Requires a spell of greate exorcism or similar effect to lift in the field. Greater Polymorph: Self - Transform into a higher-level creature indigenous to the area for one minute. Treat the creature's stats as own during that time and HP and MP bars as extra bars until time is up or they are exhausted. Baleful Polymorph - Transform target into random low-level creature, the target's new stats to replace its usual ones for one minute or until dead. Be warned! Rewards claimed from target will match that of creature if slain while in this form! Greater Transmutation - Felled opponents and monsters, or indeed objects in range of this spell, will yield extra materials for use in alchemic formulas and constructed items. Create Homunculi - Should there be dead on the battlefield or materials on-hand, the alchemist may breathe new life into the fresh bodies to create artificial beings to serve him. Create Flesh Golems - Should there be ALOT of dead on the battlefield or plenty of materials on-hand, the alchemist may force these bodies together to create living golems of flesh and blood. Create Chimeric Monster - Should there be a number of monsters dead or several monster remnants on hand, the alchemist may create a high-level chimera-type monster. Results may vary. Alchemic Reaction - This spell allows for the creation of different potions, explosives, and other dangerous mixtures in quick order, so long as the materials necessary are within reach and useable. Greater Remove Curse - Because potions do not necessarily remove all kinds of hexes and that you can't always depend on items, no matter HOW great, this spell removes magical ailment statuses. Greater Teleportation - As opposed to the low-level 'Get me out of here' magic displacement spell he used prior, this is a more controllable form of the teleport spell which requires only a prior targeting to destination to arrive there, precisely. Actions: This will include passive kinds of effects that would be 'always on'. Master Sorcerer - Always in effect. The knowledge of generations of passed-down magical skill is yours to command. (Increases the effectiveness of casted spells greatly, and at reduced MP cost. Increases Intelligence.) Alchemic Lore - Always in effect. True understanding of compounds and elements, and how to shape them into miraculous mixtures, has been attained. (Chances of success in alchemy use is greatly increased, and uses less materials. Increases Intelligence.) Fastball Special - A high-level throwing skill with greater accuracy. Allies can receive potion and items with ease. Enemies can be struck head-on more often. (Note, can be used to throw smaller enemies.) Quick-Chug - Natural instinct for a situation has caused the alchemist to instinctively draw a necessary potion and down it like it was second nature, thus barely interrupting any action or spellcasting. Wild Toss - The alchemist starts tossing dangerous items around completely at random and at a higher rate, but at reduced accuracy. It does, however, increase the chances of pure chaos unfolding. Master Formula - Using materials at hand, create potions and tinctures in whatever quantity is needed. This will range from simple health potions to incredible elixirs and more! Master Synthesis - Using the materials at hand, create an alchemically-treated item. This may include higher-level enhancements to items or creating new ones from scratch (includes gold.) Whirling Spin Strike - Quarterstaff/pole-arm attack which uses the high revolutions of a staff-like weapon to hit multiple times. Carries the secondary effect of wind-blasting. (Can also be used for deflection and blocking maneuvers.) Hundred Needle Jab - Quarterstaff/pole-arm attack that involves quick and darting strikes with one end of the weapon at an opponent mulriple times. Carries the secondary effect of piercing with force damage. Slippery Customer - Agility increases greatly to avoid attacks and hazards coming his way. Items: The goodies. Mask of Remedies - Ultimate-level item. A plague doctor's mask soaked in all manner of chemicals and purified in the sun to become bleached-bone white. It is designed to grant total immunity towards bad status effects and debuffs alike. (Increases Stamina.) Cloak of Whispering Shadows - Legendary item. A cape-and-cowl treated with the mists and ectoplasms of many ghostly apparitions to create a cloak which grants stealth and quick evasion (Agility upgrade) by appearing phantasmal and wraith-like when in use. Quarterstaff of Sizable Woes - It is a Legendary staff of sorcerers and alchemists, but it is a light-weight and strengthened device made for quick strikes and swift moves, all while causing possible bad status effects to enemy's hit by it at random. (Increases Mana and Magic Resistance) Medicinal Leather Gear - Our guy does not make use of heavy armor without severe penalty. Therefore, he wears lighter Legendary alchemic leather armor that reduces damage via the medicines it's been soaked in, released into the body when hit. (Increases Stamina.) Gauntlets of Explosive Resistance If it goes boom, they will protect you. This Legendary Item protects the user from explosive damage, shockwaves, and also fire. (Increases Magic and Physical Resistance) Boots of Springy Step - Otherwise known as Boots That Jump Good. A Legendary Item that grants higher Agility, especially in the act of leaping and jumping around. Great for getting in and out of trouble! Loads of Potions! - Higher health potions, strong mana potions, status ailment panaceas, life/energy-leeching potions, potions of swirling mist and smoke, potions that create snake pits, potions that erect huge walls, potions that summon completely random monsters, potions of random status ailment gas, potions of stone skin or stone dream, potions of fleet feet, and plenty more like that! Loads of Explosives! - Greek Fire bombs, bouncing bombs, cluster bombs, spike bombs, concussion bombs, corrosive bombs, freeze bombs, enemy-seeking bat-bombs, funky bombs, cadmium bone-crusher bombs, transmutation bombs, chaos bombs, The Holy Handgrenade of Antioch, and more! Imperfect Philosopher Stone - Comes in three grades. A Flawed stone, which is Rare, merely imparts gold and materials at a bonus. An Imperfect stone, which is a Legendary Item, grants life and mana regeneration while in one's possession, and will sacrifice itself if the user is killed in battle. A Perfect stone, which is Transcendant, is said to be able to master life, death, and all transmutation properties, though nobody has ever seen one yet. Has to be created. You can't buy or discover any of them. Species Trait: Master of none, no limitation in ability, but no particular strength. Relation to other Guild Mates: Generally on good terms. With the people there playing to escape from the general woes of the outside world, Daryl tends to fit right in. He is the friendly joker, the wise council, the good doctor, and possibly one of the morale-boosters of the group. As he interacts with these people, so does he attain a peace of mind in his work. Even if he doesn't get along with precisely everyone, it's almost a guatantee that he remains civil with even those he might have trouble with. Why? Because this is their world, their life outside the box. Other: I have no idea what to put down for Daryl's in-game personal gold. He's never going to buy in-game items, since it's tighter belts all-around the house for him, anyway. Greater Polymnorph: Self, which is quite powerful, is unlocked by the Master of Change title.
The NPCs are completed! Have at you! There are claws and taloned feet with the back-claws and the raised arches you've seen from the show, Gargoyles. The character has brown hair, amber eyes, and is deceptively strong. Like...she's basically a pillar of strength made to look not so. Species: Demonic Gargoyle Name: Morningstar Title: Heaven's Dark Harbinger Gender: Female Age: Unknown, but possibly in the hundreds Background: This is why you leave devil summoning to the experts. On one particular stormy night, the Master of Change - Daryl Von Madness! - was feeling especially creative and decided to lock himself within his alchemic laboratory for an evening's undisturbed work. He was always messing around, testing to see where it was his formulas would go when he put them together. Truly, the best alchemists were the ones who held no fear to the consequences of their work...and could survive them! Such was the case on this night, as Daryl mixed together something vile and potent from a number of recent monster kills, and human blood to boot! He ground it all up, mixed until everything was properly noxious, and then flung it into the main cauldron...
BOOM!!!
No, seriously. ALL the boom, brimstone and ash right up to the ceiling, followed by fire rushing out and possibly magma melting in the pot. And there, is where he saw her. The figure knelt in the molten remains, and then stood up and stretched, completely unharmed by all of it. Hell, even her clothes were fine, and they looked like they were made of mere cloth. A magic property of being worn by her? Perhaps. Daryl knew what he had done. He had summoned a demon into the world, and it didn't look like any succubus, either. More like some kind of destroyer. Indeed, that was the case, although when she turned to view her surroundings and found him standing there, she was strangely calm, even pleased. It turns out...he did her a good favor, because according to Morningstar, Hell is nothing like what we are led to understand. The first thing was that it was not even an organized sort of place. Demons don't simply torture any being dropped in there. Everyone - literally everyone, all the time - is under constant destructive fire from everyone else. No one and no place is without strife. Everyone must battle eternally, raking up pain and pseudo-death again and again and again without end, no exceptions for ANY being, regardless of their walk of life. In removing her from that place, this would be the first time Star could breathe without her lungs being full of blood and many of her bones being half-broken. Truth be told, she was in a low-health condition, but she had also come to the right place to recuperate. As Daryl gave her healing potions, mana potions, and remedies to long-standing conditions, the gargoylian explained more and more of the horror story. Truth be told, she couldn't even remember if she had a name. She was called Morningstar out of her preference of heavy clubs, maces, and such-like for extreme damage-infliction. Was she THE Morningstar, then? She had no idea. Weirdly, her personality was so calm and even friendly out of sheer gratitude. Imagine you were suffering, horribly, and forced into constant hard labor, even if your body was breaking down. Now, imagine someone introduces painkillers, medicine, and relief from constant back-breaking work. Even for a place that would have a fight, such as their Guild, she was willing to serve! Morningstar would, therefore, become one of the Guild's most dangerous Marauders, as a warrior capable of stronger attack than defense who can strike with deadly force quickly and pull away if need-be. She was also the prime choice for aerial reconnaissance and in watching the outer perimeter of the Guild's castle. Most any conditions in the living world is in better standing than the dead one, the hellish one, or any other alternate doom plane, so this was a comparatively easy job to live with, even fun for her. Truth be told, Star even likes to assist Daryl in his own work, though...she has little in the way of skills to help him. Free demon's blood, though, and gargoyle skin, and so on. Even still, the Guild's head Alchemist was asked not to do that again, please. If he opened a permenant hell-portal or something, even they might be in trouble. Personality: Daryl actually based Morningstar's disposition on a co-worker of his. Her better nature is one solely formed out of gratitude, because - as she will tell you - Hell is not a place where demons rule and other species are doomed. It's a place where every being suffers equal torment, both at the behest of each other and anything that is launched down from the heavens. Every single demon or other being is subjected to deathlessness and capable of inflicting massive pain like you wouldn't believe on one another, and you feel every sensation even if your body is broken and bleeding. So, the first thing to understand about Star is that - though she is a demon warrior of great skill and fortitude - she is afraid of going back. She is eager to please those of the Guild with a kinder demeanor and is generally helpful because she is eternally grateful for allowing her within their presence. It has, curiously enough, made her kinder being. Make no mistake, though, this is something she does mainly for them, for her allies only. Morningstar is effectively a war veteran with PTSD, and when she is in combat...she will take it seriously, massively effectively, and often without mercy. The only exceptions to this would be whatever happens to break her own psyche or whatever the Guild asks of her. She has a vicious streak, a prankish streak, and a deep pit of anger and rage that - once unleashed - may be difficult to put down. YOU try being forced to live through all that! It's not pleasant! Right now, she is in a purgatorial existence - stable, but haunted by events of the past - so the only thing that could make her happier is being in paradise, and the only thing that could make it worse is something terrible happening to the Guild and the people she's grown so fond of within it. Star tends to gravitate more to supporting the Alchemist for having summoned her. Karma: -25 Class: Fighter Subclass: Marauder Level: 100 Health: SS ---> SS Mana: S ---> S Strength: SS ---> SS Agility: S ---> S Intelligence: S ---> S Stamina: SS ---> SS Physical Resist: AAA ---> S Magic Resist: AAA ---> S True Resist: AAA ---> AAA Skills: Combat Tactics/Techniques Tracking Knowledge of Fighting Techniques, Battle Doctrine, Monsters, and Apprentice Alchemy Field Medic Monster Race Languages (Expertise in Infernal, Draconic, and Goblin) Spells: Part of this is from being a Demon Gargoyle, and part of it is not. Flame Aura - Adds fire element to all physical attacks and damages all in melee range with fire, as well. Will protect her from several mid-tier ice attacks or one high-tier ice attack before going out. Stone Skin - Star's skin becomes gray and stoney, thus covering her in magically-formed stone that can somehow still move. This reduces physical and magical damage by half. (Increases Physical and Magical Resistance.) Stone Dream - Becomes a gargoyle statue for up to one minute to recover Health in a state of gradual regeneration. During this time, attacks below the 7th Tier will do no harm, and the first higher-level attack will be completely tanked as Morningstar is forced back into her usual form. Arc-Fire Beam - Similar in form to Godzilla's red spiral death breath attack, this is a directed blast of high-powered fire and lightning in one move, able to be swept for a few seconds or directed at a single target to pierce its defenses. Pyroclastic Flow - A large blastwave of lava and stone (fire and earth element) striking with forest-flattening pressure over a large cone. Any survivor of the attack or anyone venturing in the area must deal with rough and dangerous terrain. Dekunda - Removes Debuff effects from any cast target, including herself. Yes, I know where this spell (and other spells) came from. I like making references, dammit! Seventh Sign - Fire and brimstone shall rain from the sky, bolts from the heavens shall smite without distinction, dogs and cats shall live together, mass hysteria! (AoE rain of fire, stone, and lightning in an area of her choice.) Actions: As a Fighter, Morningstar is built to kick some ass. As a Marauder, she is built to swiftly assault without mercy. Fist of the Kali Ma - A single heavy-piercing fist strike, breaking through defenses. Critical hit damage is delivered if the target has vital points. Shockwave Strike - A form of directed force wave attack that is shaped by the type of weapon and the attack used, creating an extended line or blast of extended force damage from the point of impact. Whirling Vortex Strike - Multiple force wave attacks performed while spinning around, harming any targets within range. Relatively short range, but she can move like the Tazmanian Devil while doing this. Five-Point Delivery - Swift fire element fighting technique with a weapon or unarmed to strike at enemies in a star pattern, followed by flames erupting in the area in the shape of a pentagram. Fastball Special - A high-level ability to throw items to allies or at enemies, both quickly and accurately. (High-strength characters may toss heavy enemies and objects, as well.) Shockwave Assault - By melee or by thrown attack, this adds a heavy shockwave to the impact zone, the damage and range of which is to be calculated by the overall speed the item is traveling, the distance covered while AT speed, the level of the item involved, and the strength of the user. Any item used for this assault that is below the Ultimate level will also be destroyed by the enormous pressure at the point of impact. Swift By Far - A dash/evasion ability for attack avoidance and sudden speed boosts. In either situation, maximum run or flight speed may be reached may be reached instantaneously in this manner. (Boosts Agility) Heat Riser - The spirit is willing, so the flesh shall be at peak! This spell increases Strength, Agility, and Physical Resistance as the body becomes more physically resilient, like the master of Hokuto Shinken! Berserk Fury - Rage state, activates at will and if Fear is introduced. Morningstar goes Stone Cold Crazy as she attacks everything in sight while enhanced in Strength, Stamina, and Agility. Rage state lasts for one minute. Greater Sonic Roar - So, you know how some monsters let off this high-powered roar and it hits your almost physically and in the senses? This is similar to the Greater Sonic Blast, but it's the stamina-based version. It attacks with force damage and it blocks the concentration of spells and actions for a short time. Items: Stuff! Ferrari La Ferrari - When Morningstar came to his plane, she was given an Ultimate-level long-handled spiked mace to use. Yes, that's right, a morningstar. But you can't call the morningstar of Morningstar a morningstar. Thus, they named it after the famous redundantly-named Ferrari model and life went on. The mace does not have any special effects apart from being incredibly solid and therefore not likely to break under ANY pressure. Beholder Shield - A Legendary shield made to look like the front of a Beholder. While it's not the real thing, it can be activated to cast several single-target ailment spells from its secondary eyes, at once and most-usefully at a group, or fire a Disintegration Beam from the main eye. (Also increases Physical Resistance.) Imperfect Philosopher Stone - A decent Philospher Stone (like this Legendary-level one) is difficult to make, but Daryl managed to create two. This one was his spare. It is worn around Star's neck, emparting a gradual regeneration state to health and mana. It will continual perform this, and it will sacrifice itself to save the user from a fatal attack once...and then fade from existence. A Bunch of Lesser Weapons - Star picks up random weapons to mess about with and also use as ammunition for her Shockwave Assault move, and you never know when you're going to need something like this. Species Trait: Natural Flight Dark Vision Fire Immunity Cold Weakness Fear causes Rage State (PTSD) Relation to other NPCs: Star tends to remain pleasant with them because they are something that she can never remember having, which is friends and allies. Even if she has some kind of argument that involves the others, she doesn't want to fight anyone on her side, because at last she understands the value of such things and doesn't want to give it up for anything. Other: Daryl sometimes refers to Morningstar as 'Karen'. Although the other Guild members may not know why this is, it has alot to do with the gargoyle's creation. Karen is the name of the co-worker that he knows in the real world, the one that Star's personality is based off of. If asked, Daryl would confess that she's just a nice person, and that he wanted to convey some of that into the game as sort of a compliment to her. Star's title unlocks the devastating attack, Shockwave Assault.

Appearance: Hoo boy... Garlock is a variable being, in terms of his physique. He is formed and reshaped by his natural ability as a magic creature. To wit, a Bakeneko is not limited to a single form. He can be an ordinary cat, a humanoid cat being, or a malleable cat-like horror whose body shifts around as solidly or fluidly as it likes. Given enough power, he could tower over a human being like a common housecat does over a mouse. That said, let's get down to how he actually looks. Cat-Form - Normal-sized cat, apparently made of flesh. Nearest real-world breed-type would be a Bombay Cat, a black-haired cat known for its sleek fur. Garlock's eyes, however, are red. Most of the time, he seems normal enough, but sometimes out of the corner of your eye...you can see two tails on this cat, not one. Humanoid Form - The public image of Garlock The Destroyer, the one everyone sees. There are variations on this appearance, but there is a general theme to these things. He deliberately goes for the dark, dangerous, and mysterious magus look. He could, for instance, be seen in a cloak of black and midnight blue held closed with a black metallic belt with a skull-styled silver buckle, studded travel boots, spiky storm-gray torso armor with shoulder padding included, and black gauntlets. Regardless of the state of his attire, he makes certain the only evidence of anybody actually in there you can see are a pair of red eyes glowing. He's very picky about that sort of thing, since he is hiding the fact that he is a cat! Specifically, he seems like a humanoid Bombay Cat being under there, with two tails. He has not mastered the art of looking human at all. True Form - All of this is a cover for his true nature, the malleable beast. Garlock does not unleash this unless he's serious, because he's rather self-conscious of people knowing what he truly is. "If they knew the real me, they would know how to eliminate me, and that is one thing I will not allow." He has taken measures around that, of course, but sometimes you gotta handle things personally. From any form, he can suddenly reshape into a black-and-red feline form, usually large and fluid in motion, like some kind of a freakish cat-blob. As long as there's some idea that this is suppose to be a cat-thing, he can reshape at will, the only real limit being the consumption of energy. Species: Bakeneko (Ghost Cat) Name: Garlock The Destroyer Title: Stray Executioner Gender: Male Age: Unknown, but he IS a cat, so he may not be that old. Background: Never make a cat angry... There is a repeated legend that states if a cat grows old enough, its tail may split and it will become a supernatural entity. It is also said that if a cat, regardless of age, should take the curse of a living being into itself, it can change almost immediately into such a being. Said creature is believed to have the power of life and death, sinister dark powers, curses, and more. Such is the legend of the Bakeneko. It was an ordinary town...somewhere. He could not remember where. Names and locations do not always occur to a cat, usually more like descriptive titles. Even for a human-thinking cat, some things are a bit of a stretch. He just called it Home. Garlock was, in his early life, an ordinary cat from a litter of cats. He was a cat of certain happier memories, and was generally alright even when his owner altered his being into that of a familiar, one who could speak in the human tongue and think in their terms...most of the time. He was owned by a skilled wizard by the name of Zan Goldswith, who funded his magic pursuits in the buying and selling of pets and summoned creatures to ordinary people. It was an unusual thing to do with his life, but he enjoyed it. As a familiar, Garlock was essentially the magus' companion and sort-of-assistant. He IS a cat, after all, and there's only so much you can do. Still, when he wasn't being a cat or being an assistant, he was looking over Zan's own magic works. No particular reason, just something to occupy his time. It turned out to be useful for later, learning at least the basics. Because there was a problem... It was on a day like any other, at least in his view. Garlock was just lazing about when...there had been some sort of ruckus outside. He neither knew or cared...until a magic misfire blew in the store and killed Zan. Killed alot of things, really, but Garlock himself had been in the back room and was spared the brunt of the blast. He was already touched by magic, and then he came out to the front to see his owner splayed out. If ever a cat-like monstrosity was going to form, it would be here and now, the curse of his owner's death - his only friend's demise - spuring him on. And so, it did. The two dueling mages who caused the incident were suddenly frozen in place, while the town guard and every citizen present witnessed a dead man walking out of his destroyed shop to unleash fiery havoc on the town itself. As he did, a black helmet, leather armor, and travel cloak appeared on his body, writhing with shadowy energy. He was a man possessed, literally. Garlock went quite mad and bloodthirsty during his awakening, and did not stop until he'd razed the town and killed everyone in it. Then, he removed himself from Zan's body and took the mages into a dark realm, where they were subjected to unspeakable torment until finally he let them die. Garlock could not handle his owner being so casually cut down like that. Not at all. His curse upon the people who had caused this kept going unabated, towards ALL who cause suffering. Hence forth, he began to roam the countryside, ANY countryside, looking for disaster and strife to leap upon and handle himself. Each time he did, he became a little more powerful, a little more capable. It's been several years since that time. The name, Garlock The Destroyer, is spoken mostly in rumor, but some know for certain that he is a menace, that he carries disaster around, and that nobody may know where he will show up...but if you've done something terrible in the past, you may end up on his platter. Of course, what people don't know is that he ran into some significant opposition, along the way. It was a crisp, clear day when Daryl Von Madness was out gathering materials for his work when his demon friend, Morningstar, got into a fight with some sort of monstrous shadowy creature. Both were of significant power. To approach them without equal strength was death. Daryl pulled out a few nasty potions...threw the ENTIRE battleground into chaos...and then when the two combatants were done going "WTF?", he demanded some sort of explanation. It turns out that he had discovered the creature known as Garlock The Destroyer, who introduced himself as such, and that he was planning to kill him. Why him? Well, according to the car-carrying villain, it was because humans engaged in his sort of madness were too dangerous to live. Daryl pointed out the very-clear irony and the creature merely laughed and said he considered himself necessary to make certain all rise up against the darkness, and that he was the morning wake-up call, the villain to keep you on your toes. Also, he seemed to make those who deserved it suffer the most. This made the Alchemist point out that this was, in fact, one of his missions, as well. The Master of Change is all about flipping tables and tossing away stacked decks. That...intrigued the cat, for he was indeed of the feline persuasion. The conversation ended with Daryl giving the ironic statement, "Buddy, have I got a place for you.". Personality: How does a jaded cat think? Garlock was a normal cat - at one point - and he still has the mindset of one, but then he was enchanted before he even became a Bakeneko. He could think, act, and speak as a human would. He was a familiar, with all the memory retention and understanding that a human can have. Even still, he has the thoughts and instincts of a cat, and therefore has different priorities than any human. Barring personal ties and loyalties, he is rather self-centered in regards to the needs and wants of others. He can also be quite snarky and sarcastic, or just plain funny, though that territory bleeds into his humanesque personality. Some days, he just can't be arsed and quite finicky. Others, he'll be delighted and chipper. He IS a bit crazy, yes. Garlock does care about certain things around him. By his very nature, the woes of others are extremely important to him. They give him power. Not so much when he's the cause of the problem, which he might be, but definitely if the cause were something other than him. He does things his own way, according to his own morality. And what kind of morality is that? Hard to say... It's not as though he's a defender of justice, but he gains power through fulfilling revenge. He's called The Destroyer, but he handles it like a day-job, a profession, as though it were regarded as a necessary evil. Ultimately, his goals are his own, and you have to appeal to them in order to make some headway. He is a very strange entity, and that is what people get for meddling with cats. For instance, his general sympathies go out not merely to the suffering and tormented souls. They also go out to the felines of the world, and to a number of supernaturals. Rarely humans, but if they're cooperative enough, he can work with them...maybe. Still, a Bakeneko holds a special presence to all cats. They will not lash out at him, under any circumstances. He is what they strive to be, a cat beyond all cats, the ultimate speciman Karma: -50 Class: Wizard Subclass: Shadow Magus Level: 100 Health: SS ---> SS Mana: SS ---> SSS Strength: S ---> SS Agility: S ---> SS Intelligence: SS ---> SS Stamina: S ---> S Physical Resist: AAA ---> SS Magic Resist: AAA ---> SS True Resist: AAA ---> AAA Skills: Cat Languages (All) Tracking Stealth Knowledge in Arcana (Expert), Feline Races (Expert), and Monsters. Spells: Creature of nightmares...what are thy spells? Hecaton Pyrum - A spell that sends a heavy fire blast into a target, whose explosion launches out a further hundred other fireballs into the given area, turning the area into a burning wreck almost instantly. Freeze Cannon - You know Mr. Freeze and his big ice cannon? It's kind of like that. It's a beam that delivers great ice damage, freezes opponents in place, and creates rough terrain until it can be melted. No quipping. Earth Spike Pillars - The lesser form of this spell creates dense stone spikes that spear a multitude of targets on the ground. This version raises pillars of stone...which proceed to sprout and FIRE earth spikes in a multitude of directions! Clean Sweep - A large tornado forms in the area and begins to suck up whatever the targets were designated by the caster...and after banging their heads around in there...are blasted HARD either into something solid or out of the area entirely. Hydro Erupticus - A series of sudden high-powered geysers erupt without warning, blasting unwary targets around or into the sky to take fall damage afterward. Other targets not directly struck are still seered by the extremely-hot water raining down. Volt Bomber - It's a big lightning bolt from above, which will do electric damage and blind those who look at the flash...but it also launches Ball Lightning out from the strike zone, as well, for additional measures of damage. Greater Teleportation - You know the drill. It's a spell that allows teleportation with a great degree of control that works over long distances. All you need is to know where you want to go and you can appear there. Elusive Image - False images and interactive illusions are generated to distract the enemy or conceal things, including Garlock himself. These are illusions that all can see, not dependent upon the mind of the enemy targets at all. Brainwarp - A field of disorientation filled with bedazzling lights and images that penetrate the mind. High chance of causing Confusion status as concentration on any spell or action power is blocked from the mental disorientation. Possession - The target must attempt to resist the spell, based on Garlock's Intelligence VS the other's Magic Resistance, or be taken over for a brief period of time, during which all of the target's capabilities are Garlock's to control. Spirit Calling - If any being has died within the given area recently or is otherwise a restless spirit, it may be raised into a ghostly attack form and called into battle until extinguished once more or released by the caster. Curse of a Thousand Claws - This spell summons a large number of small shadow cats who literally pile right around you and start tearing and biting with shadow damage. Since these are summoned creatures, you actually have to kill them to make them stop. Summon Deadly Pride - Calls forth a group of dangerous shadow beasts that are similar to mountain lions or other predatory felines, and are roughly their size. They fight much like the Shadow sub-bosses of the original Devil May Cry. Greater Shadow Blast - A heavy explosive beam of pure darkness, causing great damage to all targets in its way and in the explosion at its endpoint...where the area is temporarily black as the void and impossible to see through. Bakeneko's Realm - A pocket realm or an overlap of the material plane? You decide. Either way, the area becomes Garlock's territory, to conjure and summon illusions, constructs, and creatures to his heart's content. In this place of darkness, he regenerates health and mana, for it is his place of power...as it is a part of his own being. Actions: Beast of destruction...what shalt thou do? Alpha Cat - This is an effect that is always on, because it's linked to his very being. A Bakeneko is the greatest and most-honored of cats, save for a cat god, to all cat-like beings. No feline specimen will ever attack Garlock, regardless of form. Transformation - The ability to switch between cat, humanoid cat, and Bakeneko form, at will. The regular cat form is not especially strong and will collapse at the first hit...but will give way to Bakeneko form immediately upon that form being overcome. The capabilities of the Bakeneko form are handled below. *Large Size - Becoming a large creature with supernatural speed naturally increases Strength, Agility, and Physical Resistance. *Magic Creature - Being a magical entity of legend and tales of horror has increased Mana and Magic Resistance. *Amorphous Body - Having a shifting, shadowy body increases Physical Resistance and Magical Resistance. Black Envelopment - Targets must endure or escape being absorbed or eaten by the Bakeneko, as they are torn at constantly while inside of him by physical and darkness damage until dead. Devoured targets will restore Health back to Garlock upon their death between 10% and 50% of their health, depending on relative strength, resistances, and so on. Mighty Leap - This is a leap-strike attack which is meant to pounce, climb, or ram. It depends on the circumstances, and indeed the form, but it demonstrates the cat-like reflexes in whatever form, and serious damage if in Bakeneko form, like breaking down walls or scaling great heights...or just crushing someone flat. Many Paws, Many Claws - Garlock's true form alters on a whim, including going shapeless or growing many limbs. In this case, alot of big cat paws reach out to claw and crush targets all around him. Items: Garlock does not regularly carry items. Species Trait: Dark Vision Dark Immunity Light/Bless Weakness Catnip Weakness Superior Hearing Sonic Weakness No Vital Points Relation to other NPCs: Mostly, he is like a cat to others, a cat who seems rather obsessed with magic and his own pursuits. That said, he was convinced to stay around here, and as he had once done in a certain shop...he's prepared to pull his weight if he really has to Other: There is no confirmation that Garlock has anything to do with Daryl's real life, as he did with Morningstar. However, if asked, he will confirm that he once owned a cat. His title unlocks the Bakeneko's Realm ability.
