From the second Victoria mentioned Alice's name, that was all Finn could come up with. He had just been thinking about how much of an ultimate betrayal him hooking up with the most gorgeous girl in school would be to Alice, when Victoria demanded to know if it was because of her. But as she continued talking, Finn realised she couldn't have read his mind, because she had gotten it all wrong. Alice had told him about Victoria's insecurities, about the ultimate reason behind their fallout, but he had never really believed her - assuming that it was just Alice being Alice, and looking for the best in everyone and the worst in herself. But as the hurt rang clear in Victoria's voice, Finn knew that it was far truer than he could have ever imagined. He had only ever seen a girl speak like this once before, and that was when his sister had been dumped by yet another one of her arsehole exes and she refused to eat in front of anybody for close to a month. It had baffled him almost as much as it did now, as he stared at the Goddess in front of him with tears streaming down her perfect cheeks. Watching helplessly as she pushed past him and left with a door slam he definitely deserved, Finn supposed that he should probably be relieved that it was now only him left in the room, but instead all hr felt was regret. Cold, painful regret. "Shit. Fuck. Shit." All his drunken mind could do was let him slump against the nearest wall and slide down it, trying to figure out what the fuck just happened. Alice's heart was in her mouth as the distance closed between her and Ricardo in what seemed, to her, at least, like less than a second and a thousand years at the same time. She was torn between two states of mind - her usual, mentally scarred self was screaming at her to run, to get away from this fiend; but another, unfamiliar part of her wanted him closer, so close that they could melt together into one. It was this part of her that leaned into his hand that gently caressed her face, leaving a burning trail of desire in its wake. She reckoned he would have kissed her, and she would have let him if it wasn't for the ear-splitting scream that could have only belonged to one person interrupting them. Alice felt a lot more annoyance than she was used to towards the stunning blonde screeching her head off in the garden, before pushing it down and offering her an embarrassed smile that was most likely ignored. Her eyes lingered perhaps a little longer that they should have on the built frame leaving the pool and her behind. She was just settling back into the water, her heartbeat finally slowing to a somewhat normal pace, when she remembered something she should've remembered a long time ago: Finn. A wave of shame crashed over her as she scrambled out of the pool, ignoring the wolf-whistles that followed her as she pulled her dress over her head, not bothering to dry herself off first. She had been sitting there... canoodling, while he was probably sitting there alone, maybe even looking for her. Glancing at her phone, she winced at the time it read. Her mum and stepfather would be home by now, probably wondering where she was. The time had practically flown by. She found Finn standing on top of a table, chugging a bottle of Jack, people either chanting his name or filming him. Shoving past the growing crowd, Alice reached up and grabbed his hand, pulling him down from where he stood. Holding him tight as he wobbled slightly before leaning heavily against her, mumbling something about his jacket. Come to think of it, where was that thing? She could've sworn she saw draped around...no, it couldn't have been. Finn was too smart for that. Casting a glance at his face, which looked half-conscious, she made aengal note to ask him about it later. "Come on. We're going home." To her surprise, he let out a sharp laugh that had no humour in it. "Home? Neither of us even know what that word means, Alice." The words were barely coherant with the amount he slurred, slumping down on the front porch as Alice let go of him to call for an Uber. He was projecting. He did it every time he was drink. He doesn't mean it. "My parents hardly even know I exist. And yours - darling Damien is just happy that you're a younger, hotter version of your mom, isn't he?" If it wasn't Finn that was saying it, she would've slapped him, but he'd said it all before. Besides, his tone wasn't malicious, just very tired. Something bad really must've happened to him in there. That didn't mean she was unphased by his words, however, and she shot a quick glance behind them to make sure no one had heard. Idiot. "Shut up, Finn. The car's here." Not bothering to help her friend up this time, Alice marched across the front lawn to wear a car was waiting, murmuring apologies to the driver in advance as Finn stumbled over to them and practically fell into the backseat in one lurching movement. The car ride consisted of Alice sitting in the front seat and offering the driver somewhat hurried directions, Finn singing 'God Save the Queen's in the backseat and turning an odd shade of green at the last corner, and the driver himself refusing to drive any further for fear of the boy throwing up in his precious car. Apologisong again, Alice stuffed a five dollar bill into the driver's hand as means of a tip and dragged Finn out just in time for him to start throwing up in the nearest bush. At least she had an excuse for coming home this late. Her mother would consider it heroic of her to take care of her friend in need. Her stepfather, on the other hand, would not be happy. That was something she would tackle in the morning, though. Right now, she had to focus on getting this mess of a boy that bloody spiral staircase of hers.
