Personality Despite still being on the younger end of the spectrum, Calliope is a very mature person who has learned to take everything in stride and calmly think about most situations before acting on it. She takes great joy in poking fun at and flustering those that are younger than her. Above all she respects those that are earnest and up front about their desires. It is those she is willing to advise and assist in any way that seems feasible at the time. Not bound by anything in life at this point, she roams until she needs money to survive before returning to work.
Bio Orphaned. If there was one word to describe the first near decade of life for Calliope, that would be it. Until she was nine years old, Calliope alternated between living in temporary homes and on the streets. It was an exceptionally difficult time in her life, but with outstanding perseverance, she survived. Not all do. In fact, the vast majority of children and youths that Calliope new in the early years of her life never even made it to adulthood. Most barely made it into their teens before they were swallowed by the streets and the slums. Calliope lived in whatever way she could. Sometimes there would be kind folk who would put up with her for a few weeks at a time. Those that would take care of her. That would never last however. Every time, without fail, she would be driven away. Even the kindest couples wouldn't take in a street rat from the slums. Other times, she would steal. She would beg. She would borrow with no intent to pay it back. Whatever it took to survive, she did. She held out for a glimpse at the brighter future. One day, she would get out. That day came when she was 14 years old. As mentioned, Calliope was completely without scruples and would borrow money from whoever to survive. Even those that were quite the unsavory lot. In turn, she would borrow from others to pay off previous debts. It worked for years before the amount became too big the handle. It was then that they came for her. The debt collectors hunted her through the streets for weeks until they finally caught her. Hidden inside a desolate building she had been squatting in, she collapsed. Emaciated and powerless, she was left to the whims of those men. She couldn't ask for more time and realistically she had no way to pay it back anymore. No one else would lend to her. Especially not the amount owed. They spoke over her collapsed form. It was likely she would have to pay them back with her body, serving the seediest side of the city until she either broke completely, or somehow managed to pay off her debt. As luck would have it however, she was saved. A hooded figure intervened after hearing the debt collectors arguing over who would get to make the first payment on Calliope's debt. He took a stance between her and the men, neutral. It was as though he was merely curious as the what was going on. After the group of men explained, he nodded several time before tossing them a satchel. It would more than pay what she owed. The collectors were both filled with joy and disappointment at the sudden influx of money. Still, they were honest workers, given the background of their jobs, and left the man be. It was days later that Calliope awoke inside and Inn, being spoon fed a bowl of gruel. It was perhaps the most delicious thing that she had ever eaten. Opening her eyes, she finally saw her savior. A handsome half wolf demi human. Kind spirited, he had intervened with no intent to receive anything in return. For the first time in her life however, Calliope would not let a favor go unreturned. She begged and pleaded to follow after him. Learn from him and one day pay back the grace. She told him her story. She held on to that sliver of light at the end of the tunnel with every fiber of her being before the man, Elric, finally relented. Over the next years, Calliope learned much. She learned that not only was Elric a magician, but also of her own talent. Had she continued living on the streets, she never would have learned of her near prodigal magical talent. But she learned more than that. She learned how to be human. To live as a person, not just survive. To enjoy life. Seeing her like that was one of Elric's greatest joys in the years to come. And learning from him was Calliope's own joy. He was so interesting, and took such a strange approach to the magic he used. To him, everything in nature had a cause and an effect, and magic was much more efficient following nature's own rules. Sure, one could create fire out of thin air, but what if one used natural phenomena, such as igniting gasses that already exist in the air to create the same effect? It would surely be more efficient. To Calliope, there would never be anything more interesting than Elric's research. In the years to come, that appreciation and awe would soon change to love, and in the 22nd year of Calliope's life, they were wed. The loving couple traveled together for 2 years after that, researching and experimenting magic. Taking tasks in whatever city they were in at the time to pay for their daily lives. It was in her 24th year that Calliope lost that happiness. The two had split apart to take two different tasks and increase their efficiency, but when Calliope returned, there was no one waiting. After weeks of investigation, she found the reason. He was dead. Betrayed an poisoned by his employer during the mission. When she questioned that man who had done it, she was in tears. His response broke her soul. "Demi scum." That was all. That was enough reason to take the life of the man she loved. That was the first time Calliope killed a person. It was as easy as her victim made it out to be. People killed for far less. After, she left. She wandered until the current day. 2 years, taking nothing with her but the name that her beloved had first given her when he took her in. A name that she had given up when she took his own name. The name he gave her with a bright smile on his face after he heard her terrible story. Elpis. Hope.
Magics 83 (Regular Magic) Abstract Magics None at this time.
