That was a piece of advice that Alexander had tried to follow throughout his life, ever since it was first shoved up in his face by a red-faced drill sergeant hellbent on making the Chicago-teenager cry for his mother. And for all intents and purposes, it had been a good piece of advice. Even saved his and the squad's life a few times in the jungle, maybe. Knowing your comrades and your own capabilities was crucial in knowing if an engagement could be won or not. Same applied for an equally serious, but less deadly engagement with a woman you loved. Alexander believed in both Thalia's and Beatrice's capabilities, though not equally. Thalia he'd seen take care of countless Walkers and Edenites since that very morning they met, all with the ease and determination of someone you could depend your life on. Even after her best friend had been gunned down in cold blood, she didn't stop. Perhaps it was because of just that immense emotional loss that she had gone off now to continue their mission, or that she was just that strong in the first place. Beatrice he knew less about, but his belief in her was still strong. She had survived this far after all, and appeared to just as determined to go on ahead without them as Thalia had. Alexander looked back up at Beatrice as she told him she was going with Thalia, and gave a quick nod. "Alright, be careful." His eyes drifted back to Thana at her other comment, his head continuing the nodding from before. "I promise." He added as quietly as her, praying that it didn't need to come to that. Choose your battles wisely. Know when you can or can't win. This time he feared they couldn't win. Alexander too heard the gunshot around the corner, and promptly got up on his feet just as Thana did. It was a miracle that she was standing, but then again the Navy were always stubborn like that. Alexander didn't take the time to say anyting to either Thana or Manny, and rushed around the corner. Words were pointless at this point, as he saw Beatrice having just been hit. Two dead and two wounded, the odds were continuing to rack up against them. Alexander got to the other corner and looked down the hallway at the shooter. He took aim, thankfully having the time to aim properly with the Edenite un-jamming the gun, and shot. Five rounds flew down that hallway, two of which found their mark and taking the man down. "Angel! Get back here, now!" This was the last straw. They were going to die if they continued this attack, and the old veteran wasn't going to let that happen. They had to get Beatrice to cover and then everyone the hell out of dodge.
