This reminds me quite a bit of the [i]Mouse Guard[/i], more so then [i]Redwall[/i] not only by the aesthetic choices, but the world you've envisioned as a whole. The Redwatch is very similar to the Guard. I'm kind of surprised you never mentioned David Petersen's comic books actually, and it leads me to believe you might not have read them. In which case, I highly recommend.

 Either way you've intrigued me, I'll definitely be fiddling with an application in the near future.
