He was back in his leathers and Taxis bark armor. Hood and muffler up and in place, keeping his face either covered or hidden in its shadow. There were a number of new faces, but their numbers were still few. He noticed a particular girl that the king mentioned that they would be guiding around. She was told to have some gift that could heal the land. Whether he meant that literally of metaphorically, Dremmick was yet to see.
It wasn't that long of a wait either. Not long after riding into the woods around Vrondi, a caustic stench seemed to permeate the air. When they arrived to its source, Dremmick couldn't help but be curious, as this was unlike anything he had encountered before. He rode up to the front, but dismounted his horse before getting to close so that it could stay a safe distance away, just in case. “Corruption. It's toying with nature as we speak. We've got two options you lot. Ignore this and pass this by, or deal with this Apostasy of nature. This is a sign from a poseur to the incarnation of death. Close to the capital yet devoid from the watchful eyes. Danger.”" Dremmick moved forward, passing Garret and Ami to get a closer look. From under his hood, his eyes started to glow yellow and spectral wisps of energy came from them as he started to look to see any life energy of souls in the festering scar in the land. It was completely empty. Not an ounce of life energy save for the maggots and other insects. Even the foliage was devoid of the smallest scrap of life. His eyes faded to their normal hazel color before he turned around. ”I'm not sure what exactly is causing this, but the whole area is barren of any life.” He took another look around as he tried to figure the whole thing out. It was a grotesque sight, unsure of what creatures, or people, all the flesh was from, though it was obvious it was more than one. Was this some even more twisted form of blood magic? Before Dremmick could dwell on it further and formulate any sort of answer for Garret, Mason came in. "I got this, stand back everyone..." Dremmick's eyes shot over to Mason, ”Wait, Mason! Don't-,” but it was too late. The whole thing erupted in golden flames until it was burnt away, Mason's fire completely dissipating as he withdrew his attack, however, the fires it caused still seemed to burn. ”Dammit, Mason!” he cursed as he looked up at the black smoke and spreading fire. ”Besides the threat of burning the whole forest down, burning a diseased tree can potentially make the disease airborne and infect a larger number of plants in the area. And who knows what that thing had in it.” Dremmick went over to one of the fallen branches from the tree. He pulled a knife out and cut off a small piece of a twig and took out a small glass vial from his back pouch, placing it in and sealing it so nothing could contaminate it or vice versa. ”I'll keep this to take a look at this later, or have someone else do it. Either way, this need to be studied more before we go destroying every one we see. Speaking of which, we need to keep this fire from spreading any further.” It was showtime and Lynn had that feeling in her gut again, wondering if this was the right decision. She signed her name, was a bit shy during the parade when they left, but she was able to calm down a bit once they were away from the castle. Lynn was so far seeming to enjoy the ride. She sat sidesaddle on Feather as he pulled the cart so she could guide him when needed, though he mostly seemed to follow the rest of the group fairly well. Every now and again lynn would fly off on her staff to look at something or bring back some interesting plant to show Metis, who she seemed to stay the closest to. It was an amazing adventure already for her as she saw one new thing after another. Eventually however, she started to smell something odd in the air. The party arrived to the large grotesque tree shortly after, and Lynn's happy demeanor seemed to fade. Unlike the hooded man's curiosity, Lynn wanted no part of the disgusting tree, the very sight made Lynn feel a bit queasy. While she had seen and was able to deal with plenty of horrid injuries in her time, a whole tree filled and covered in flesh was nauseating. It didn't take long however for a young seraph, that she later learned was named 'Mason' as the hooded man yelled, ignited the tree in a spectacular golden fire. It seemed to spook some of the horses a bit but not enough to make them rear up or run. Lynn consoled her horse by petting the side of its neck and cooing at it, ”It's okay, don't worry,” She said softly in its ear. She noticed that some of the burning branches had caught others on fire. ”The other trees! I can help!” She picked up her staff, which was mounted on the side of the horse, and used it to take flight, sitting up sidesaddle on it as well like usual. She undid the stopper on the water jar hanging behind her lower back, using the water rune inside to summon water and direct it onto the fires, and a small stream to her mouth, breathing the water instead of the tainted smoky air around her. While controlling the water would prove to be easy, summoning this much water proved to be taxing. It wasn't something she was used to doing and it tapped directly into her magic energy to summon it. She had to be wise with how she used it, so instead of spraying the fire down, she moved a large water bubble onto the fires, putting them out and then moving it to the next fire using the same water bubble. Each fire met the water with a good bit of steam, and wore down the water bubble's size slightly, but it still got the job done fairly efficiently. Once it was done, the bubble of water was blackened and she let it fall to the ground away from the group, and closed her jar. She slowly floated back over to her the carriage and sat next to Metis. It wasn't moving around the water that was strenuous, it was summoning that amount of water that she wasn't used to. She was a little tired as she relaxed in the chair. ”Summoning that much water was a bit tougher than I thought.” she said with a worn out smile and slight chuckle. Not afraid to sign either as the slavers never asked for his name to begin with. He felt like this was a great new start for him, although he knew he couldn't escape his past or the vows he made, this felt like a step in the right direction. He was easily noticeable compared to the rest of the group as he towered over them. Also, unlike the others, he wasn't riding a horse as there wasn't one large enough for him. As it was, even when riding horses some of them were even or still a bit shorter than him. He stayed close to the ox, making sure it went the right way when needed, or simply holding the reins as he walked with it. There was one girl he could have swore he recognized, though she seemed to stay covered up with a hood, like that other fellow. He guessed it was none of his business to pry and kept walking with the group, every now and then whistling a jolly tune.
When the group arrived to the tree, Allard couldn't do much but watch the event unfold. It as a ghastly sight, for certain, though the group seemed to deal with it well enough. Truth be told, Allard thought that burning the tainted tree seemed like great way to deal with it, even if they had to put out a few fires afterwards. If the burned tree could spread the disease, however, that could end up being a problem. And what if the disease had an effect on people as well? They had been smelling this rot for a while now, which would mean that in essence that they were breathing in particles from this tree. He looked over to the one that the king introduced to the group as a 'healer of lands'. Wondering if it was literal, he went ahead came forward to ask Ami. “Young lass, there wouldn't be any chance that yur able ta remedy tha land itself from this creepin' evil taint, is there?”
