I fix the one at my place all the time!... ...Uh, because it's old, not because I'm bad at fixing it. I think." [sub]Name[/sub]

Jory Callan
[sub]Age[/sub]

17
[sub]Gender[/sub]

Female
[sub]Appearance[/sub]

Jory most often wears one of her work overalls she scavanged years ago from an old factory. Otherwise, she can be seen wearing any combination of leggings, shorts, tank tops, t-shirts either long sleeved or not, with a liking for plaid patterns. Her full brown hair is nearly always tied up in a bun or ponytail. She has a slim build and stands at 5'5" (165cm), and is somewhat self-concious about her lack of curves (though evidently does herself no favours with her most common outfit).
[sub]Personality[/sub]

Jory very much acts like an older sister, often even towards those a few years older than her. Terribly caring and selfless in nature, it would appear to most that she never spares a thought for herself. This isn't entirely true, of course, but she does find the vast majority of the happiness in her life through the happiness of others. In that way, she even views herself as selfish--after all, if she didn't get such happiness, she suspects she'd not want anything to do with other people. For now though, it works out. She's got kindness to spare and that's something plenty of people want some of. Being 'used' for her help or whatnot doesn't appear to particularly bother her. As long as she gets some kind of recognition for her deeds, she's happy--and in the cases where she doesn't, she simply sucks it up and continues to wear the ever-present, calming smile that can be seen on her lips. If one looks hard enough, though, a measure of sadness can be found hidden behind that smile. Fear of being a burden, of not being able to help someone when they need it most, of being forgotten and left behind; it all drives her to act how she does. She's the reliable girl that anyone can go to if they need any sort of assistance. She's the hard worker who will do all you ask and then more. If she doesn't have at least that--if she were to become unable to help--what would she be, really? Nothing would be left, in her opinion. She isn't interesting. She isn't courageous, or strong, or particularly smart. She isn't beautiful, or funny, or even abrasive or confrontational. If you ask her, she's just... there. There's nothing notable about her, beyond her willingness to help. And that's part of the reason she's so obsessed with it. Jory is very quick to see the good in another, and that makes her want to do all she can to prop them up even further. If only she could see good in herself, then.
[sub]Background[/sub]

Jory is born and raised in Amberstone, at first living a life as normal as any child could hope for in this day and age. At the age of five, she found herself the older sister to a pair of fraternal twins, and took to the role with joy. Due to complications with the twins' birth, they were both rather frail and prone to illnesses, which made life difficult for the family. Jory did all she could, even diving into old medical textbooks to self-teach herself anything that might be able to help with the number of health issues the twins faced. Just before Jory's sixteenth birthday, however, her younger sister and brother were both taken by a strong fever. Jory, who had also caught the same illness, did all she could despite her state--but there wasn't much to be done. Without access to proper medical facilities, the girl and her parents could only watch the young pair pass away over the course of a few days. It had been something her parents had warned her about, and the three had done what they could to mentally prepare, knowing that the chances of the frail twins living a long life were slim. But of course, the shock when the worst finally came to pass was not something that could be prepared for. Jory herself changed in relatively subtle ways after the incident--once a fairly boisterous tomboy, she became significantly more self-concious and soft-spoken, thinking through her words before opening her mouth. In contrast to that change in attitude, though, she actually became more willing to take questionable dare-devil risks. Her constant blinding smile was replaced by the more subdued one she wears now. Finally, she threw herself further into her hobbies, and into helping her parents and others in the settlement, finding herself completely at unease whenever she didn't have something to occupy her--as though she was wasting time that she couldn't really be certain she had.
[sub]Miscellaneous[/sub]

Jory has a penchant for tinkering with machines. She's not particularly knowledgeable or traditionally skilled, but has found she has a talent for just 'figuring things out,' as it were. Her other passion is medical studies. In this, she's far more knowledgeable, and thinks she wishes to be a doctor in the settlement. She has, in the past year, begun taking a greater interest in the dinosaurs of the world, and wants to learn more about them and--more worryingly--see more of them in person and up close.
