He does remain somewhat muscular for his stature, mostly a byproduct of working on ships and dockyards. He does tend to care about his appearance and image to an extent, keeping his beard well-trimmed and his hair combed back just enough to look like he’s making an effort. Dev rarely wears his armor unless he knows he is in for a fight, instead opting for his simple piloting jacket and clothes suited for someone who frequents shitty dive bars in remote asteroid fields. Personality: To call Dev a coward who constantly runs from his problems instead of facing them head on would summarize how he handles most situations. It takes a lot of credits to keep Dev’s attention, and even more to get him to risk his neck for anyone other than himself. In fact, fear is often what drives Dev’s actions, despite his grizzled physique. There are dozens of people who want him dead and have the manpower behind them to make it happen, so the pilot will often go out of his way to seek protection from the nearest possible source. Despite all of this, Dev does deep down want to do the right thing. He doesn’t view himself as a hero, but will often do what is best for the common good when the cards are on the table. History: Dev was born as the seventh of twelve insignificant children to Tyril and Yaru Arx, a couple factory workers on the planet Balmorra. By the age of six he was already pressed into service at the local droid factory, able to fit into the tight spaces no one else could. He was the runt of the family, but surprisingly sturdy. By the time he was 10, Dev had seen five of his eleven siblings pass away from accidents at the factory, malnutrition, or a combination of the two. By the age of 14, Dev was the last of four children left. He wasn’t particularly skilled when it came to working at the factory, but he was headstrong in those days and at least useful for manual labor. Like most kids in his situation, Dev dreamed of the stars. He stashed away credits that he had earned over the years, and when he was 14 managed to buy himself a ticket to Coruscant. When he had arrived, it was practically a dream come true. The only problem was, he was a 14 year old kid with no practical education, He was lucky to pick up odd shifts at the spaceport, again mostly moving things and getting paid under the table. And yet, it was a life Dev enjoyed. For four years, he slowly worked his way up to the point where he was a standard dock worker, and eventually wormed his way into working on a ship. What Dev didn’t know is that the ship he managed to get onto was a ship smuggling spice from Nar Shadaa. What was worse was that the captain of the ship, on the run Dev signed on to, tried to cheat a Hutt crime lord out of his money. Needless to say, things went poorly. Dev was forced into the co-pilot seat of a bucket of bolts that was in hot pursuit by a Mandalorian Bounty Hunter. Dev was lucky to survive the crash landing on Tatooine, and even luckier to have made it out with the captain’s cred-stick before the Mandalorian began to pick apart the wreckage. Dev spent three days traveling in the desert heat of Tatooine, having stolen his Captain’s jacket to warm him for the cold desert nights. On the third day, Devonian Arx stumbled into Anchorage with a pocket full of credits and one Hell of a story. The story and credits bought the novice criminal onto a decent ship, a XS Stock Light Freighter called the Tarisian Dawn, under the Captain Yorick Wells. Wells was a Zabrak smuggler, and he treated Dev well. The two formed a rather instant bond, and Wells taught Dev the ins and outs of the craft. His “First Mate,” Quira Delkas, was an expert slicer and taught the novice her art as well. For Seven Years, The three flew together with a rotating cast of criminals, most often mercenaries and Bounty Hunters. Their luck ran out at the hands of a Mandalorian… the same one that nearly took Dev down on Tatooine. The Tarisian Dawn was in the Y’Toub system when they were tracked down. They were shot down over Nal Hutta. While Wells and Arx survived, they were captured by the Bounty Hunter Karil Wren. Turns out, Wells had a large bounty on his head. The Smuggler’s true nature was revealed as they stood before the Hutt crime lord, and Wells offered Dev as payment. The Hutt refused, instead opting for the execution of Wells. That is not to say that Dev was not considered useful by the Hutt, who employed Dev as one of his own personal servants. Dev decided he was more fond of flying than serving a Hutt. His skills in slicing helped get him past the Hutt’s security. He managed to, against his better judgement, choke the Hutt to death in his sleep before stealing a small passenger craft and getting off Nal Hutta as soon as possible. These actions, along with a few missteps the rogue captain doesn’t like bringing up, has earned the Captain the ire of many crime lords in the Outer Rim. That is not to say that Dev has any shortage in clients. He’s a rather skilled freelance pilot and slicer, and quite the asset for anyone in need of a clever pilot willing to get anything done for the right price. Trained in [*] Slicer: What helps someone with the charisma of a charred swamp rat avoid detection? Well, fucking with terminals and forging credentials of course! [*] Gunslinger: While not an expert marksman, Dev’s ambidextrous nature has come in handy. He keeps two blasters on hand at any given time just in case things get ugly… and they often get ugly. [*] Jerry-Rigger: Less of a proper mechanic and more of a guy who somehow patches his equipment just right so that it lasts a little bit longer than it logically should.
