The Earth is not as intune with magic as the world from which the other races hail, and as such, magic is not as powerful as it could be. As it stands, even the most powerful users are, at most, limited to brief bursts of flight or some light elemental manipulation. Humans and Orks are equally adverse to magic, with Elves and Fae being most naturally gifted. The Aetherial are somewhere in between. Through practice, natural aversion can be triumphed, and the University provides more than a few classes to hone magical abilities. Some say that slowly but surely, the Earth’s level of magic is increasing, and that the limitations of magic are being lifted with it.

A result of the incursion between the Earth and the other world, Familiars came with the other races, and have been attached to every Human born after the war. These are magical creatures, that appear during one’s second birthday. A Familiar takes the form of an animal; typically, they are a cat, raven, dog, owl, hawk, or something along that line. Familiars are attached to the person they come to. They react to the emotions of their charge (as in, they feel the same way), and they can communicate telepathically with their owner. While other people can see them, one can only communicate with their Familiar. However, other Familiars can communicate with other Familiars. Familiars cannot be dismissed, and cannot be killed. They die when their charge does.

The Fraternities and Sororities are broken up by race. Orks and Humans share, Elves and Fae share. The Aetherial get their own. The different buildings are all representative of the races that lie therein, having their own flair. Orks & Humans:

Omnicron Rho Kappa: This is the fraternity of the Humans and the Orks. While not the fanciest (in fact, it’s probably the cheapest), and certainly not the cleanest house, Omnicron Rho Kappa has the unique situation of being the loudest house. This is where the biggest and most raucous parties are thrown, and every Thursday a cacophony of sounds emanates from it. The house itself is plain, by and large looking like any house from a suburb might look like. In bright blue and white letters on the ceiling, painted on by the occupants themselves, the abbreviation of the fraternity’s name can be found: O R K.
Sigma Mu Zeta: Compared to the ORK house, SMZ is cleaner, smells better, and looks better from the outside. They are also one of (if not the) quietest house. Typically speaking? They cheat and throw their parties at O R K.
Aetherial:

Tau Iota Psi: Belonging to the Aetherial races, this fraternity was built by the Tieflings and the Aasimar together; half to the Tieflings, and half to the Aasimar. As one might expect, the Tiefling side lends itself to gothic architecture, with sharp ceilings, and painted a dark shade of black. The Aasimar side of the building is painted a bright white, ‘smoother’ and rounder. Both sides of the building contrast, as do the two races.
Theta Phi Nu: This is the counterpart to TIP, and it has the same building format. Both houses are incredibly quiet, and very rarely does either TPN or TIP allow others into their building.
Elves and Fae:

Alpha Chi/Pi Chi: The Elven and Fae fraternity and Sorority are one building. A giant, Victorian mansion at the far end of Greek Row, this building houses the Fae and the Elves of the University of Washington. They very rarely throw parties, and when they do, they’re ‘classy’ get togethers, and dinner parties. Bunch of squares. Real nice house though. Be a shame if a certain fraternity partied there.

Typically called ‘the lofts’ by students, Kenmore Lofts is the student housing building near Greek row. Formerly a private building for some wealthy alumni. Has since been converted to student housing. Floors 2 and 3 are for female students, floors 4 and 5 are for male students. The bottom floor is set as the ‘living area.’ This is where you’ll find the kitchen, dining area, gym area, study room and computer cluster. The basement is where the fun begins. Down here, there are two giant 37” TVs, one with a GameCube connected to it, and another that exists just so people can play Halo: Combat Evolved. Alongside the video games, there’s a pool table, small refrigerator filled with drinks, and a ping pong table. Surrounding the Lofts, is a large swimming pool (more for fun than sport) with a hot tub occupying the same area, and a set of basketball and tennis courts.
