He needed to know more about her. For whatever reason, he just couldn’t get her out of his mind. It was one of those faces that you could remember for the rest of your life after seeing it just once. He needed to know more. Perusing and pulling his strings, Justin soon found out that Cyndi was the sister of a widely known Henry Green. Great, at least she had ties to someone he was at least familiar with. Now came the hard part of finding a way to contact her. Justin felt like a creep, but based on the information that he gathered, she wasn’t going to be back for a while. Might as well shoot his shot now. Pulling up Instagram, Justin pulled up the search function in the app. He hesitated for just a second. Usually attempts to slide into someone’s DMs like that didn’t go too well most of the time. Justin really didn’t want to end up on the wrong side of someone like Cyndi. But at the same time, if he didn’t shoot his shot and take a risk, then he would potentially miss out on something great. As the great Michael Scott once said, “‘You miss one hundred percent of the shots you don’t take.’ - Wayne Gretzky’”. He typed in a C, preparing himself to sort through many Cindy and Cyndis, but as soon as he typed it in, she was the first result that popped up. Justin was honestly a little perplexed as to how Instagram knew that he wanted to find Cyndi. Either a higher power was trying to tell him something, or these phones were getting a lot smarter. Pulling up her profile, he hit the option to send a direct message. The fact that she had her DMs open even to people he didn’t even follow was a good thing. Taking a deep breath, he began typing on his phone.
MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM: Justin Quentin (@justinquentin6) ”Hey! Aren’t you that girl on the screen during the speech yesterday?”
He hit send, not spending a second thinking more about it. If he started second guessing himself, he was never going to get the message out. Now came the waiting. By pure dumb luck, the message was received twenty minutes before Miss Cyndi Green would board on a direct flight from ICN to LAX, but she wasn’t the one that noticed the notification. Cyndi was preoccupied with her fans, taking pictures with two teenage girls, gorgeous Koreans, mind you, both aspiring dancers, that follow her religiously, especially her Vevo account. Her Vevo account hosts her dancing at INITIATE, her recitals, and her new, slowly growing pop music career. The one who noticed the message was her young, charming twenty-five year old butler, Xander, since his smartwatch lit up and his dark eyes trailed down to scan it. Rule of thumb for a Green was the child, more often than not, was required to call their butler, Butler, to avoid attachment, but never did that work. Ever since Cyndi lost her first butler, who was vastly older than Xander, the rules were bent for therapeutic reasons. The baby Green needed someone who was not only her protector, but also her friend, which meant she needed to call him by his first name. In time, her family assigned a young boy, like seriously, he was only nineteen at the time when he started protecting Cyndi, that found his opportunity and won the Greens over by not only his exceptional fighting technique for his age, but also his personable skills. Amicable, witty, and full of charisma. Someone Cyndi could treat like an older brother, like Henry. The only difference was Xander was required to be near her at all times. Henry wasn’t. The Greens most definitely had their own private jets, and yet, Cyndi insisted taking scheduled flights for moments like these. Moments where her fans could find her and discover that she isn’t too high in the clouds. She may be rich, but she wanted to stay humble no matter what. Once the two girls got everything they wanted from her, including a hug, they skipped off to show their parents, while Cyndi made her way to her butler, beaming a hopeful smile. “Soon, Xandy, we’ll be home! I literally can’t wait. Mommy, Mama, and Daddy will be so happy I’m back!” Her plump dancer booty bounced onto the seat beside Xander. "You know who else can’t wait? A boy named Justin Quentin.” Xander playfully smirked, which was rewarded by a perplexed expression from his number one Priority. Justin? With a raised eyebrow, she pulled out her phone to see the insta-message from a boy. A… BOY. A boy she didn’t know! Momentarily, she glanced up at her confidant and rushingly muttered, “W-What should I say? He… he saw me in my pajamies! Do you think he’s Henry’s friend? He probably is Henry’s friend. Why else would he message me? Or, or, maybe, he WANTS to be Henry’s friend.” Shrugging like he didn’t know what the boy was trying to gain, Xander bit the end of his straw from his Starbucks vanilla bean frap, while chuckling, "Only one way to find out.” Xander wasn’t one to micromanage his Responsibility. Honestly, she was the easiest child to watch over, compared to the other two, in his opinion. Always aiming to be perfect for her mommy, Alyssa. Henry’s butler had to go on vacation, for god’s sake. That kid was always playing with death and getting into trouble, making Alyssa downright explode on the daily. Thank god for Eve. And Hailey’s Butler? Man, social media was more than enough for him to see all the shit transpiring at BHHS. He had no doubt she was behind most of it. It took someone as equally calculative and ruthless to handle her. Xander could only respect his seniors. Now, back to the matter at hand… whether he thought this boy’s pursuit would be a success or not didn’t matter, because if it was in Cyndi’s desire to become friends, or more than friends, with this boy, Xander would support her. Truth be told, he thought this could do her some good. Right now, Cyndi was put in a new situation that she never dealt with before. A boy, from her school, was sliding into her dms. For what? We’ll have to wait and see. Puffing her cheeks up, she glared at her phone, her thoughts racing. What could she say without sounding like an idiot? Finally, she huffed the air out and typed in response:
MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM: Cyndi Green (@cyndigreenofficial) “Hmmmm, I could be. Depends on who’s asking. :P”
His phone buzzed. This had the potential to either be really good or really bad. Justin was praying to whatever was up there that it was the former. Taking his phone, which was face down, he turned it around with his eyes closed. Opening his eyes, he saw that she… actually replied? Huh. He would’ve never expected that to work, but here he was. Suddenly, he was frozen. He didn’t know how to respond. Currently, Justin was like Plankton after Mr. Krabs had given him the formula to the krabby patty. He’d come all this way only to not know what to do. He was sitting on a stool, staring at his phone as if it was going to give him an answer. How was he supposed to respond to something like this? He sighed, his fingers dangling above his phone’s keyboard as he typed in prospective responses. None of them was satisfying Justin’s standards for DMs. He didn’t want to be a fuckboy, but at the same time he didn’t want to come across as being too awkward. He was the new starting quarterback. He had to act like he was one. This had no right to be as nervewracking as it was, but there he went. He knew nothing about Cyndi, other than the fact that she was cute and actually messaged him back. Sighing, he’d finally decided on something to say. It might have not been the best thing in the world, but it would have to do for now. Not like his feeble teenaged brain could’ve thought up anything better anything.
MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM: Justin Quentin (@justinquentin6) ”Well… I’m asking. Name’s Justin, as you can see above.”
“OH MY GOD, HE THINKS I’M AN IDIOT!” Cyndi shouted at her phone, only to squeak when she realized where she was. [sub]“Sorry… it’s nothing… go about your day, everyone.”[/sub] Xander couldn’t help but smile at how passionate she was being, having no idea how flirty her words were coming across.
MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM: Cyndi Green (@cyndigreenofficial) “Well, duh. But what does that mean to me? Isn’t there like a handful of Justins at our school? What makes you special?”
Was that bitchy? She hoped not… JESUS. She responded back really quickly. Justin damn well nearly dropped his phone from the sheer strength of the vibration. He read the message. Good god, he really missed whatever it was she was implying. At least this response was easier to think of this time. He knew what exactly he had to say, and how he had to deliver it.
MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM: Justin Quentin (@justinquentin6) ”Well for starters, I’m the only Justin that’s the starting quarterback for the BHHS football team? That unique enough?”
Leaning back in her seat, losing track of time, she tapped her phone on her chin while thinking of a response. Last time she remembered, Damian was quarterback. A lot of things have changed since she started studying abroad. Xander couldn’t help but pry. He felt sorry for the kid. At least it was reassuring that this Justin kid wasn’t trying to fuck Cyndi, but still… if Cyndi wasn’t so naive, she probably would be disappointed at his game.
MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM: Cyndi Green (@cyndigreenofficial) “That’s pretty impressive in my book… and me?”
She paused for a second before adding:
MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM: Cyndi Green (@cyndigreenofficial) “What’s special about me...? it’s not everyday I get a message from a cute boy.”
Her cheeks flared red. Yes, while she was waiting for his responses, she may have stalked his insta-page and found his body highly attractive and pleasing to the eye. Xander blinked at what he was reading. For the first time in his working career, he was seeing glimpses of Eve’s seductive charm in her. Justin had a stupid smile on his face. So she thought he was cute as well. Wasn’t very often that girls that he thought was cute also thought that he was cute as well. He’d gotten himself into a pretty favorable position now. He wish he knew more about Cyndi. He knew she was cute and that she was Henry’s sister, but unfortunately it was the extent of his knowledge of her. Maybe that’d change soon.
MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM: Justin Quentin (@justinquentin6) ”You’re the only girl that’s as cute as you are.”
After reading that message, Cyndi placed the phone on her chest. She was feeling a new kind of excitement. He only saw her face and from that came a fondness. He liked her. This boy, who she knew nothing about, liked her. Someone that wasn’t her parents actually liked her, like in a new way. Not the family way because he had to. He liked her because she was… cute. Did he only like her on the surface or did he want to know more about her? Her thoughts were abruptly brought back to the present when the ticket agent called first class for boarding. She needed to respond quickly!
MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM: Cyndi Green (@cyndigreenofficial) “Maybe you’ll see this cute girl soon.”
Biting her lip, she took a risk and quickly sent a picture of the airport screen that revealed she was coming home. But not her face. She wasn’t ready for that yet.
MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM: Cyndi Green (@cyndigreenofficial) “Very soon.”
And with that, she would end her replies for the next 15 hours.
