[color=green][sub][ ◈ ] A P P E A R A N C E[/sub][/color][hr][indent]Aken Sur stands 6' 5" and sports the bright, slightly muted red skin of the Ungaran race. Physically, he is a lean and fit young man who resembles his grandfather in many ways, aside from having some hair where Abin had none. Aken's hair is kept short and closely cropped, is jet black in colour with slight silver highlights along the sides of his head, where the hair is cut extremely short, with thin stripes of hair shaved from the temples to just above his ears, where they angle downwards and stop. A black stripe marking exists on his chin that ends at his lower lip, and two more black stripes extend from the middle of his ears down to below his eyes, curving across his cheeks. His uniform is your bog standard Green Lantern uniform, but with one extra addition: on his right shoulder is an emblem. The Green Lantern logo is sewn on his right shoulder, encircling a simple design of a power ring. Above and below the ring are four words: "In Memoriam" above the ring and "Abin Sur" below it.[/indent]
[color=green][sub][ ◈ ] A B I L I T I E S // S K I L L S // E Q U I P M E N T[/sub][/color][hr][indent][list][*] Green Lantern; Aken Sur is a Green Lantern and brings to the table all the skills and equipment a Lantern has to fight evil. He has a [b][color=green]Power Ring[/color][/b], usually worn on his right middle finger, along with a corresponding [b][color=green]Lantern Battery[/color][/b], a small one that he keeps hooked to the belt of his uniform. The ring bestows the Lanterns' signature powers of [color=green]Hard Light Constructs[/color] and [color=green]Flight[/color], along with a [color=green]Shield[/color] that encapsulates his body.
[*] Budding Martial Artist; at Kai-Ro's behest, Aken took to learning one of Earth's many forms of martial arts. He chose to study Shaolin kung fu, just like Kai-Ro, and even though he's not too good at it, he manages enough.

[color=green][sub][ ◈ ] L I M I T A T I O N S // W E A K N E S S E S[/sub][/color][hr][indent] Just like every other Green Lantern out there, Aken's ring must be recharged at his battery when it runs out of juice. How much energy he has depends on how much he's used during a mission, and he often takes a day or two off to recharge his ring if it's empty. Aken is also rather young and inexperienced, even though he's grasped the use of his power ring fairly quickly. Without many missions under his belt and the years of experience that his partner has, he is still indecisive and naive when it comes to deeper things within missions or the relationships between other factions.[/indent]
[color=green][sub][ ◈ ] B I O G R A P H Y[/sub][/color][hr][indent]Aken Sur. The grandson of legendary Green Lantern Abin Sur. Current heir to the Sur family name, the young man's life began like any other. Born and raised on Ungara, he had little memory of his parents, though later interactions with other Lanterns told him a grim tale. His father, Amon Sur, was a reject. A villian who blamed the Green Lanterns for taking away his father, Abin Sur, from him. He fell to the preys of avarice and greed, became a villain, joined with the Sinestro Corps and later was resurrected as a Black Lantern. Unbeknownst to Abin, he left an heir on Ungara. A young Aken who, after being abandoned by Amon, grew to detest the very things that had taken him away, much like Amon had before him. However, unlike his father, Aken tempered his anger into a focused mind that would always picture a world without evil plaguing it. The thought never left his mind, and he trained his body and focused his will every day, hoping to find a way to pay the galaxy back for his family's mistakes.

Aken was not the only one who knew of his father's misdeeds. When locals in his city learned of his surname, they knew of what Amon had done during the Lantern Wars. He was troubled by many who spat on his name, making it hard for the young man to find work or even make a living. Still, he powered on, working odd jobs and small-time gigs that didn't mind him.

That was when Kyle Rayner approached him. Shocked and surprised by the appearance of the prominent Green Lantern, Aken asked him of his business on Ungara. Kyle instead presented him with a power ring and a lantern battery, stating that the willpower he exuded to set things straight for himself and his family was something the Corps needed. He would be put in training immediately as one of a new wave of Lantern guardians of Space Sector 2814. Aken accepted the offer gratefully and left with Kyle to travel to Oa, where he would train. He left behind a trail of disbelieving looks and more than a fair share of swears and mumblings of disbelief. The young man took up the mantle of Green Lantern very quickly, training alongside several other newer recruits under a strict drill sergeant on Oa. He learned how to use the intricacies of a power ring; the formation of light structures, how to make them solid and how to manipulate them into any form he saw fit. Aken excelled at hand-to-hand combat and his constructs were the strongest among his batch of recruits, although he was severely limited by his lack of imagination on the constructs he made. However, his trainers noticed that his combat style was also filled with repressed anger and fury. When questioned, the young Ungaran shared with them his troubled upbringing and his life on his home planet.

After his training was finished, Aken met with Kyle again and reaffirmed his vow to be a Green Lantern. The senior Lantern informed Aken that he would be assigned to the sector of his homeworld: 2814. His anger issues notwithstanding, Kyle had the gut feeling that he would make a great Lantern. But the aforementioned anger management problems were, well, a problem, but Rayner had the perfect solution. He introduced Aken to his new partner: a young man from Earth named Kai-Ro. He hailed from Tibet and was a monk before being picked by the Lanterns. Kyle felt that Aken's anger would benefit from being tempered by Kai-Ro's cool, calm head. Although unwilling, Aken reluctantly accepted the partnership.

Before, Aken had never been offworld, but seeing the vastly different cultures and races of the galaxy gave him a newfound sense of purpose. He realised that this was what his grandfather was proud of; not just of being a Lantern, but of protecting the billions and billions of people in the sector from any threat. The duo spent many hours out in the black of space, in between missions in the sector. Kai-Ro taught Aken everything he knew about inner peace, showed him how to meditate and even brought him to his home temple on Earth. He introduced the alien to his fellow monks, who showed him the ways of meditation and finding your center. Humbled by all that was taught to him, Aken chose to stay in the temple for a few months to reflect on his past and to find his inner peace, just like Kai-Ro taught him to.

Now, Aken is a Lantern like any other, patrolling space and responding wherever evil rears its ugly head. With Kai-Ro in the Justice League, Aken also takes whatever jobs that he can't to help ease his partner's burdens.[/indent]
