Magical Abilities: Light Magic - Using the power of light Joe is able to use it to project beams of concentrated light energy to harm his foes, create barriers to shield his allies, and is even able to heal their wounds... and... well... less impressively use it to light up a room. [s]So he's also a candle, congratulations![/s] Place of Birth: Ogunquit, Maine Currently Residing: New York City, New York Personality: Shy and timid, he doesn't open up to others easily due to always having to keep himself at a safe distance from others, lest they find out about his birthmark or his powers. Though, to those who are able to break through his walls and befriend him, he will be fiercely loyal to them. He offers others kindness as much as he can, and is willing to put himself on the line to help others. He also possesses a powerful sense of justice, once he sees something wrong, he can't help but get worked up over it. History/Bio: Joe has had... a rather unfortunate upbringing. His parents were killed in a house fire when he was only eight years old after the townsfolk had figured out his secret. It had been an innocent, and deadly mistake on his part. He had gone swimming with other kids his age, and of course, a tattoo, especially one so intricate, on an eight year child is quite a strange sight to behold. The word of his strange "tattoo" was spread around town quickly, almost like wildfire, the townspeople, highly superstitious, believed it to be a mark from the devil. With that in mind, in the dead of night, the townspeople blocked off the doors and windows on the first floor of the house and set it ablaze. While his parents died in the fire, Joe had miraculously survived the fire. He was found the next morning by a couple of backpackers in the Baxter Woods near Portland, forty miles away from where the fire had happened with little to no explanation. However, for the life of him, he cannot recall the night of the fire, nor how he possibly ended up in the woods, it may always remain a mystery to him. Though, fearing what would happen if they were to transport him back there, he lied about not knowing who his parents were or even where he was from. From then on he was passed from foster home to foster home, living in constant fear that those around him may one day find out what he truly was and receive the same... "warm" welcome as the townspeople in his hometown gave him and his parents. His only saving grace was that his parents had taught him how to properly suppress his powers before their passing. To the world around him, he was a regular human, no special powers, no outbursts, nothing. Those powers went suppressed and unused for years, the orphan never having any time to himself to try out his magic, let alone even have the nerve to try it out. He wanted nothing more than to make something of himself, to leave the constantly changing foster homes that never seemed to relinquish their grasp on him. He excelled in school, studying as hard as he could to ensure that he received top marks in all of his classes. It all eventually culminated in landing a full ride scholarship to the University of Maine. He still had to deal with roommates, but it did allow him far more freedom than he had when he was in the foster home. It was going fine for him for a while, still maintaining his academic excellence, and even getting involved in extracurricular activities, such as fencing and archery. Though one day, in the dead of winter while walking back to his dorms, he came across a rather... disturbing sight. A woman being beaten to death by what he soon discovered to be Guild members. In his rage of seeing the cruel mistreatment of that woman, his powers reawakened, and he took it out on the unassuming Guild members, leaving them badly injured but alive, he took off with the woman. What he did not realize at the time was that the woman was actually a captain of the Dark Shadows. He soon received an invitation to join them. He thought... why shouldn't he? Because of the Guild's statutes on secrecy, his parents ultimately wound up dead, had magi been more well known and accepted, maybe that tragedy would never have taken place. He's known about countless incidents wherein if a magi had been allowed to assist then lives could have been saved. How many magi who were brave enough to do what they felt was right were punished by the Guild? How long can an organization which relies upon heredity, essentially a monarchy, go uncorrupted by such power? Who is to say that they aren't corrupt now, only continuing this charade of secrecy in order to maintain their power over all magi? They are ultimately judge, jury, and executioner appointed by nothing but whatever blood runs through their veins. With that in mind, he gladly accepted, finished up his last semester, and transferred to a university in New York ready to begin his proper training with the Dark Shadow. After all, while he may have magic, it's useless if he cannot properly wield it. After that little reawakening of his, he hasn't been able to muster up anything close to the power he used on that day. He is still quite used to suppressing it, rather than using it. [s]He can make lots of pretty lights though, I guess.[/s]
Name: Aloysius Leighton Relationship: Best Friends - Good Friends - Friends - Well known - Warm - Acquaintances - Unknown - Cold - Dislikes - Hates - Enemies - Rival - Nemesis Characters opinion of them: I haven't met him in person, I've heard... things about the Dark Shadows, but I shall reserve my judgement until I get to know him better.
