The rebellion was bloody and violent, the military on these worlds have also turned coat in an attempt to stage a coup. The Free Citizen’s Federation was established. The Terran government on earth decided to send a retaliatory force to take back the outer colonies, but instead of success, they met with failure as the Federation used captured Republic ships to stage ambushes and confuse enemy lines. The Republic suffered heavy losses which bought time for the Federation to actively design and produce its own ships. The Republic, suffering losses to the Federal fleet, began to reorganize its military. The Republic’s defenses were dug deep, the Federation didn't want to risk it's already limited manpower by attacking them. By the next year, July 1st, Terran calendar, the Federation had built up a small number of new vessels. The Republic began its second foray into Federation space. The Republic had been largely successful testing a new, more aggressive naval doctrine. The Federation was able to turn the tide in a few key battles, narrowly avoiding a lost war, these battles gave birth to heroes of the Federation and Heroes of the Republic, battle hardened veterans that gain legendary status through their hard work and perseverance overcoming all odds. It was clear that as time went on both the Federation and the Republic were in it for the long haul. The Federation had made doctrines for hit and run tactics in space, as well as guerrilla warfare planet-side to compensate for their lack of numbers. The Republic felt the impact of these changes. The attrition rate was one Fed for every six Republicans, the casualties were climbing higher every day. October 30th, 2142, Terran calendar, the Republic military began development of a new type of warfare to combat the guerrilla warfare on the ground. It was called, ODIN, Orbital Drop Insertion. This new method of delivery allowed shock-and-awe to be delivered to the ground with amazing ferocity, armed with sophisticated new weapons and armor, they would be able to drop in the middle of enemy lines and wreak havoc. The ODIN project was first field tested on the front lines of Lusitania – a historical Portuguese settlement that was successfully taken by the Federation. ODIN caused confusion as the new troopers were able to seek out and destroy enemy guerrilla fighters while actively waging their own form of guerrilla warfare. They were versatile and agile units capable of disrupting enemy ground operations. January 4th, 2143, Terran calendar, the Federation sought to copy the Republic military, they made their own version of the ODIN using captured Republic equipment. An ODIN unit was captured after a counter offensive on Icarus station above the swamp world of Hesperus. The Republic was not able to destroy the ODIN equipment and armor before it was captured and the Federation used the designs and kept many things the same. Engineering a completely different platform would’ve taken more than a few months at most - time the Federation didn't have. It wasn’t long till ODIN units from both sides clashed, both were extremely skilled and garnered each other’s respect. The war dragged on brutally, a bloody back and forth. By 2144, the people of both the Federation and the Republic were getting weary of war. Leaked footages of the war and its brutality circulated around and it had begun to rouse the people of both nations into protest. Eventually the Federation and The Republic agreed on a cease fire on December 21st, 2144, Terran Calendar. Exploration that had ground to a halt just three years prior, began to pick up again, worlds that have been ravaged by war began to rebuild, and the people affected by the war began to recover. A peace summit was held, the Federation and the Republic shook hands on a peace declaration that effectively ended the war for both of them. January 5th, 2145, Terran calendar, an exploratory mission to a nearby star system was cut short as a hostile unknown force fired upon the civilian vessels. First contact had been made. Humanity found themselves in their first interstellar war as the Alien vessels changed course and targeted nearby inhabited systems. The Free Citizen’s Federation and the Unitary Republic of Terra found themselves embattled once again. The weakened forces of both the Federation and the Republic could not hold off the invaders. In their hesitance to work together they lost five worlds in the opening days of the war. After the staggering losses, the Federation and the Republic reluctantly agreed to consolidate their forces in a joint effort to fight the alien menace. The Federation and Republic created new joint ODIN divisions that will be the spearhead of the ground war. Federal and Republic news media dubbed these brave troopers as ”Hell Jumpers”, with news headlines that would become the mottos for many divisions within the ODIN branch such as ”Death From Above”, “Feet First Into Hell”, "First In, Last Out”, and many more. ODIN troopers became a symbol of hope and security soon after. But the war between the Federation and the Republic had just recently ended, the wounds from that conflict are still fresh in the minds of many people who fought in that war. People within the armed forces knew all too well that adjusting to their new found comrades will be easier said than done, but at the end of the day they carry humanity’s hope on their shoulders, they cannot afford to fail before the battle even begins. The xenowar will be long and bitter, and it will test humanity's resolve.
[+]-----------------------------------------------[+]
That's the background for the RP, I took inspiration from a bunch of Sci-fi games, shows, and books - notable sources of inspiration are from Halo and Starship Troopers. Participants of the RP will be playing as ODIN troopers from either the Federation or the Republic and it will focus on the perspective of these troopers and their unit as they overcome challenges and hurdles throughout the whole xenowar. ODIN is a branch of the army that is categorized under the special forces. They recruit from different branches, recruits are mostly airborne paratroopers and air assault forces with a few being from other special task forces. I plan to unravel the story in a number of what I call "campaigns" which will involve several theaters on different worlds. That would mean different terrain and situations such as Urban engagements, swamp wading, desert flats, etc. Thank you for your time, bellow is additional information. Feel free to ask questions, I will answer at my soonest convenience; as for the character sheet, it will come up in the OOC if this garners enough interest. These self-governing worlds are then regulated by the Federal Council that decides upon overarching boundaries to every world’s autonomy; the council is led by a council elected official known as an “Exectutor”. The executor leads the Federation by presenting issues to the council while being advised by other elected representatives. Representatives from all federal worlds gather at the council to present and discuss local issues as well as vote on issues that affect the Federation as a whole. Federal life may vary from world to world under local regency, meaning laws differ from planet to planet. Law enforcement procedures, taxation rates, trade, etc. The Federal worlds are diverse in culture and are divided in language and religion. Many old Terran languages live on in different forms ranging from English and moving east towards the Asian languages such as Japanese, as a result, Federal Citizens are colorful and different everywhere unlike the Republic.
[+]-----------------------------------------------[+]
The Republic is a democratic autocracy, led by an autocrat that is elected into power – the president of the Unitary Republic of Terra. There is a democratic election held every four years but the four party system only allows for only so many candidates and usually all the candidates are pro-autocracy. The “strong-arm” leadership led to the breakaway of the first twenty worlds that would come to be known as the Free Citizen’s Federation. The Republic passes laws that affect all worlds which puts strains on poorly developed colonies which eventually lead to insurrection and rebellion. However, the Republic’s ”No Nonsense” policies have lowered crime and piracy rates, increased economic focus, and improved security for all its citizens. The Republic provides a different life from that of the Federation – unity is the message. To increase national unity, the Republic had to standardize religion, culture, and language; permitted languages are that of English, Russian, and Chinese (and their dialects) – the languages of Earth’s original most powerful nations. The changes may have been strict, however, the desired affect was achieved – a nation united. The Federation during the war made this one of the reasons they rebelled, however, if one were to compare the living conditions of the Republic and the Federation, one would be hard pressed to find a difference – in fact, the Republic beats the Federation in a few regards and vice versa. The Republic had the Martian Armory Corporation and the Federation had the Morita Munitions, a weapons research and manufacturing branch of Morita Industries. The armor is quite durable and made to help navigate through tricky terrain thanks to its complicated shock-hydraulic-compensator system and its compatibility with the ODIN Jetpacks. Jetpacks aren't standard issue and inhibits the trooper carrying a large, tertiary weapon. The helmet piece of the armor is equipped with night-vision, infrared, and a sophisticated heads up display that simplifies the job of the Trooper. The Armor can be air-sealed and has a self-contained air recycler for operations on planets that lack oxygen or in space. All neutralized enemies may have been just their army, thus, it is possible that there have been no ACTUAL enemy casualties. The enemy makes use of physical projectile weapons just like us and have limitations on what they can do. The enemy is numerically superior and technologically equal, they are also solid strategists and tacticians as they were able to deduce the functions of several key facilities and focus their attention on them before securing the rest of the planet and its regional space. The enemy uses a combined arms tactic, using heavy armor, artillery, and its fleet to good use on the ground. The reason the enemy is able to advance so quickly is due to their large numerical advantage, they overwhelm the defending force by throwing as many bodies at the defense as possible. It has been theorized in-character that the enemy force's objective is expansion, resources, and possibly enslavement.
