That RP is incredibly influential and important, so no.
You mean to the twenty of us who participated? For it's significance in our respective psyches and cosmologies. I suppose that without it I never would've developed as a philosopher, as I have (as pretentious as it sounds, I do mean philosopher--not sage) because I wouldn't have researched Snyder's predecessor, Morrison. I loved it, and would gladly crash it again with a third character, but I can't place the sovereignty of that exchange between the lot of us above the entropic psychic bioweapons we tout today. The people I met through the roleplay (yourself included) provided emotional support at a trying time in my emotional development. So I suppose, sure, it cemented certain bonds that I consider worthy of maintenance, and was therefore worthwhile. It was influential and has shaped a literal dozen or more games that followed in it's wake, therefore being important in the canon of a decidedly non-canon meta-canon, but I can't say it was necessary. We all live. We all die. Regardless of whether we eat, sleep or have shelter (or thought-provoking entertainment that provides a sense of accomplishment or self-worth). Do we need life? If we're just bullets in the wind, waiting to rot in the dirt between the bones of whatever corpse we plant ourselves in. I don't think that the game itself, an infinite game with no winning conditions, can really be called necessary. Well, I actually do suppose that it existing on this board was necessary to inspire the rest of us to imitate it's trappings to this day. But it's all for naught, really. Not that it being unimportant makes it any less personally valuable. I suppose my gripe here is really that necessity is often treated as something concrete that is absolute. But priorities--each man must arrange his own priorities, making their value as steadfast as an ice cream cone under the sunshine. I like ice cream. I like life. I like death and I evidently like rambling about the ultimate insignificance of everything I would love to last forever.
