However, after years of religious study, traveling, and repentance, by the time of his death he was a changed man. Patient yet stern, commanding yet gentle, he found balance within himself. This is reflected in his fighting style. He endeavors to be ever calm, thinking and acting in harmony, his mind and body working in sync. He is eager to see his homeland in the modern day. The only regret he took with him to the next life was the murder of his brother. Even if it means he would never pick up the sword, never become a legendary hero, he wishes he could take back that blow. Wishes he could undo the death. Remove the betrayal and hurt from his father's eyes. He is someone who understands his place in the grand design, and as a Servant is prepared to follow the commands his Master presents him with. Despite his regrets and his reserved nature, he still comes alive in combat, and loves no situation more than when he is outnumbered. He thrives under pressure, and no matter how much he tries to deny it, craves the sweet taste of victory even long after his death. While he wasn't the first-born, and thus, would never inherit the seat of Emperor, he enjoyed a life of luxury and status. However, he was born with a brash and courageous spirit, coupled with a dangerously competitive nature. He took up the arts of the sword and frequently trained with his older brother, Oosu. One day, during a showcase of their skill, the younger brother accidentally dealt the older brother a fatal blow, ending his life. Enraged and fearful of Osu's temperament, Emperor Keiko sent his son away to Izumo province to undergo tutelage in the Shinto faith. It was on a mission with his teachers and peers to Kyushu when they were attacked by the Kumaso tribe, a coven of barbarians wreathed in bear skins. Osu was forced to reveal to his peers his uncanny skill with the sword and slew the Kumaso bandits single-handedly. One of the enemies praised him, giving him the name Yamato Takeru, the Brave of the Yamato Family. Yamato Takeru returned before his father, having been tempered into a warrior of great skill, but also of considerable wisdom by his years away. However, the Emperor remained unconvinced in his son, and sent him to the easternmost part of Japan, the land that housed those who disobeyed the imperial court. There, Yamato was no prince, no son of the Emperor. He was treated as just another criminal, and left to toil in the lands, struggling to make a living. He went on a long journey that found him in Ise, at the Grand Shrine. He came before his aunt, Princess Yamato-hime, High Priestess of Amaterasu, the Goddess of the Sun. He fell to his knees before her, deeply repentant for slaying his brother and breaking his father's trust. His aunt took pity on him, and by invoking the favor of the Gods, bestowed upon him a Holy Sword that previous to him only deities had ever been granted permission to touch. The Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi. It was equal parts gift and test. The sword was of such great power that killing in anger or for his own selfish reasons would be extremely easy. He thanked his aunt and with her help, created a scabbard wreathed in a protective seal to help contain the boundless power of the sword. Then he left, heading off on his own to travel the country. In his travels he saw and experienced a great deal, all the while never unsheathing the holy sword at his side. He soon met Oto Tachibana, the woman who would become his wife. He sought her hand, but discovered she was promised to an evil, treacherous warlord. The warlord hated the way Tachibana looked at Yamato and devised a plan to kill the both of them. He organized a hunting expedition and invited Yamato Takeru, who accepted out of kindness. However, it was a trap, and when Yamato arrived, only he and Tachibana were present, alone in a large field of grass. From atop a hill, the warlord and his personal army loosed a volley of flaming arrows at the field, aiming to burn and skewer Yamato and Tachibana. Forced to defend not only himself, but the woman he loved, Yamato drew the mighty Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi from the scabbard, grasping it in both hands. With one swing, he cut all the grass in the field with an invisible blade of wind. With another swing, he conjured more wind and redirected the rain of arrows, returning them to whence they came. The warlord was slain, but not out of hate. Yamato felt no desire to beat him, only to protect Tachibana. Sure that he had done the right thing, he renamed his blade the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, and sheathed the sword. Yamato never returned to his father. He was happy enough raising a family with Tachibana. The two of them lived happily for many years, and Yamato met his death much later, when he went hunting without the sword, much to his wife's protests, and fell in battle with a monster. He died with his only regret being the murder of his brother. He saw the moment as a release from the world he'd occupied long enough. He was entombed in the Ise province and his sword granted to his son, the 14th Emperor of Japan. Weapon: Yamato wields an additional double-sided sword on his hip, one he used before he came to hold the Kusanagi sword. Aside from being of good quality and craft, it is mundane. He does not wield a katana, seeing as he died centuries before the first katana was forged. Parameters: Strength: C Endurance: C Agility: B Mana: D Luck: B Class Skills: NAME OF SKILL: Magic Resistance RANK: B DESCRIPTION: Takeru's sword, one of the three Imperial Regalia of Japan gifted to the emperor by the Gods themselves, boosts his innate Magic Resistance up one rank. Negates E, D and C ranked spells. It is difficult for them to be affected even by Greater Thaumaturgy. NAME OF SKILL: Riding RANK: C DESCRIPTION: Yamato Takeru was not noted as a particularly skillful horseman, and appears with a noticeably low Riding skill for a Saber. Capable of gaining a basic understanding of modern vehicles. Capable of handling mounts and vehicles with the skill of seasoned professional riders or tamers. Seems to have innate talent whatever vehicle and mount under them. Personal Skills: NAME OF SKILL: Divinity RANK: D DESCRIPTION: Being a descendant of both the sun goddess Amaterasu and the storm god Susano'o affords him some level of divinity. It is hardly more than negligible, however. [Effect:] Divinity can break through certain skills granted to one through piety. NAME OF SKILL: Protection From Arrows RANK: C DESCRIPTION: Through both his own natural reflexes and the powers of his sword, Takeru has a strong defense against ranged weaponry, as seen when he defended himself against a volley of flaming arrows. However, since he relies more on pushing away the attacks and less on dodging them outright, this skill is lower than it could be. [Effect:] Affords the user some level of defense against ranged attacks. Takeru uses gusts of wind and his own honed reflexes to bat attacks harmlessly to the side. At this rank, it is effective against mundane ranged attacks, but not magecraft or a Noble Phantasm of even below average power. NAME OF SKILL: Storm Sword of Valor RANK: C DESCRIPTION: As long as Takeru is near his sword, he has a level of control over the weather. When he realized the sword could use blades of wind to cut the grass around him, he named it the Grass-Cutter. [Effect:] Yamato Takeru can calm or call up to gale-force winds. (62-74 kph) Noble Phantasm: Name: Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi Title: Grass-Cutting Sword of Gathering Clouds Rank: B NP Type: Anti-Army Range: 1-75 Maximum Number of Targets: 700 Description: The Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, an ancient double-edged sword, was once called the Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi, the Sword of Gathering Clouds to represent its magical powers. Unlike other legendary swords, the Kusanagi was not often used for single combat in its tales. Instead, the true strength of the sword is its raw magical power, capable of calling mighty winds, enough to impress the God of Storms himself, Susano'o. When unsealed, it calls huge amounts of wind to itself. With each swing, it releases blades of wind that have both high concussive force and high cutting power. It is not a single attack, but more of an "enhanced state" that effectively extends the range and scope of the weapon dramatically, thus giving it its classification as an Anti-Army Noble Phantasm.
