Are we allowed to play with a canon character's history or age to have them fit into the game?

Examples:
Could we regress a character like Iceman, the Thing, or Blue Marvel to fit the age requirement?
Could we join with an alternate universe (Ultimate, MC2, AoA, MCU, etc.) character by changing up their history so they've always existed in this universe?
