It's more so the fact [@Williwaw]'s last post didn't really hint or say Gary was assuming; it went straight to Gary knowing who it was. The way it is, it just kind of makes it look like Gary knew who the culprit was while jumping the step of assuming. Unless I'm reading this wrong.
