X-23-18 also receive a minor regenerative heal during the night in which, at its maximum, is only able to close wounds. Through an extensive amount of researches and training, it seems the target’s current regenerative factor does not support the skeletal adamantium reinforcement plan. If the damage lies in his DNA, his telomeres will grow during the night to its one half of the day before. But it does not grow indefinitely.    [/list]

This is it. The first infant was able to survive the installment of Jonas Graymalkin’s DNA. With the infant being born without any detectable birth defects, I am happy to say that our developed technique in creating an indestructible squad, suitable for night based operation, is within grasp. A perfect group of soldiers, who can’t be killed by normal means during the night will drastically cut the company’s expenditure during its raiding against the remaining settlements of mutants. And more than anything, cutting undesirable projects and potential opponents. But for now, I assure the directors will be pleased to hear that their investment had not gone in vain.

The board was very complying to hear the final result of the project. But still, their orders to maintain one of each type is questionable. It seems like the company’s target is to have a variety within their team with at least one of each type of mutation. But I can't help to question what are they going to decide to do with the X-23 projects which resulted in multiple plant-based powers. But that is none of my concern right now. 

For the current moment, we are currently creating plans for the X-23-18’s future development. Although it is quite futile until we are able to identify X-23-18’s mutation, I still think the success of a project relies heavily on the preparation phase. If my calculation is correct, Moth’s X-gene will be able to activate itself during his third years. This offers us one more year to find him a suitable development plan.

Although X-23-18’s developed power is within the reasonable range, I can’t help but begin to question what factors that affect the infant’s mutation ability. For all I know, all the external factors had been similar to Jonas’ case during his possible X-gene awakening situation.  The environment that the woman's pregnancy was predominantly in the dark and very cramped to establish a false sense of being underground.  She does not have any means to communicate with the world outside, similar to the experience of being buried alive. Given these external factors had been limited from the equation, it is only rational to question the gene itself. But for the last time I check, the genes sequences that are probably resulted in Jonas’ empowerment was identical with a minor uncertainty caused by the measurement devices. 

Still, with the latest equipment, the invincibility of Jonas Malkin does not appear during Moth's inspection. It seems whatever it is, the ability does not exist despite his gene is a copy of Malkin. But here is my hypothesis, I haven’t had enough data to prove its validity.  

Could it be possible that the mutants’ powers are actually concepts which were materialized as DNA? Although having no resemblances, there are still some similarities between Jonas and X-23-18 as they both fall during the concept of night.  I have heard about double or triple mutations after the X-gene itself was activated. And for the most case, the newly formed powers are somewhat similar to the user’s first gained mutation abilities. For the company case, I could only found one case where the project went further mutation. The project was branded as X-22-12, in which the company planned to further enhanced the project's mutation. It seems after an extensive amount of training and torture to force out the mutation, X-22-12 was able to completely become a flame being. The data shows he is mostly immune to physical attacks. Sadly, the Flame, what the specimen used to call, died in an attack against an ice mutant. That is all the data I was able to collect for now.

For Moth, his power is to send the target/victim into a deep slumber, quickly incapacity the target without harming them. Although it seems to be overpowered, being a scientist myself, I had already devised multiples plans to counter his ability. It seems there are almost no truly overpowered powers, only the most balanced. 

And although ’s Moth's sleep inducement ability to permeate through physical contact despite a protective suit in between posing some troubles for his future training, I had sent the request for the engineering department to create a robot with movement learning program for him. It would possibly take a year, maybe two by the latest if they decided to slack off. But for now, the child needs to be intoxicating by this idea, in which I am beginning to see as needlessly wasteful. Why waste such a useful race like them based on fear?

I couldn’t help but express my utmost gratitude toward the existence of Moth. At a normal glance, his own existence is only a mutation within the 23rd chromosome according to Professor Beast, or as some of my colleagues call it, “mutations processes beings over-complicated.” Thus, as a normal biologist, it is only rational to come to the delusion that the mutant’s power derived from his/her genes. 

This, in any case, are not the total truth. Through some meetings with my colleagues, we were able to observe the increase in plant manipulation type powers within the X-23 project, which goes against the company’s initial plans. But now is not the time to discuss the company decision, despite the board are going to read about this after this report being completed. 

For a long debate time, we biologists have long discussed the necessity of sleep and its function within the human’s brain. It is, inevitably, necessary for all of us human. Although there are some cases, for example, the Morvan’s syndrome, where the patient could live without sleep for a long period of time (usually weeks, there are some cases in which the patient’s brain pattern does not show any sign of entering any stages of sleep for months). But these come with a heavy cost that usually outweighs the benefits of this syndrome. Insomnia, delirium, and sudden muscles contraction are a few to name. 

But Moth’s, he is different. 

In some way, these symptoms do not appear in his case despite the boy’s brain had never entered any stages of sleep. Despite psychological treatments or sleep gas being applied to a lethal dose, possibly killing a healthy adult and fit male without careful, Moth’s shows no signs of any dizziness or drowsiness whether the medications was applied before or after his daily training. 

It seems, after the elimination process, he self-developed it. Or in fact, his brain self-developed it. As you can see, his brain is still similar to an average human brain capacity. His brain composition is still the same. The chemicals that can be found within his brain can also be found in any four years old child. But the secrets is how his brain’s function. For now, that is all I can tell. But through some rough data that I was able to pick up from the PET/MRI scanner, there seems to be some trouble within his voltage-gated potassium channel. But we had eliminated the possibility it is coming from the genetics mutation itself due to the sequences itself shows no relation to the brain’s pattern or its composition. Thus, possibly solving sleep-related problems through medications or practices. 

For any case, as long as it is not birthrights, I still got a chance. Hell, maybe I can even a Nobel prize for this. And the company will gladly when it could expand its reach into the pharmaceutical markets.

Later story: 

Life was kinda hard for Moth after he had escaped the facility. Despite taking the initiative in liberating himself from the chains, Moth has no idea what to do with his newly founded freedom. The sole reason for his escape was to avoid the sword of Damocles hanging on his neck. And now, with that sword disappeared, Moth doesn't know what to do next. Years of training had taken away his preferences. Now, he doesn't even know what to do with the free time on his hand. Unlike his peers, who may be enjoying the ability to live a normal life and the hard-earned freedom, Moth found his life to be rotten with meaningless. And before he knew it, he falls into the cycle of depression and self-harm. The jagged blades carved over his skin countless time as he tries to draw out a path of himself, but proved to be futile as the wounds grow back the next day. Fortunately, the invisible pains that he felt can now be described in speakable words. And he falls for it. 

The wounds began growing larger and deeper, and he felt happy. The sadness in his soul was understood by his body. There were no longer an "I" in the solution but a "We." The long face was replaced by the happy face. The rumors spread around the camp like wildfire as more and more bandages suddenly gone missing and first aid kits being used at an alarming rate. And before he comprehended his current situation, Moth was sent to speak with a psychiatrist. 

But that was years ago. Now, Moth works as a forester at a nearby fort. The place was fine. It is relatively secluded from the world, despite the constant check up from the nearby military stations. It includes running water, working wifi and a good plumbing system. By the day, he trains to keep himself busy from the thoughts. By the night, he traverses the forest, checking to see if the fires were extinguished and things like that. The duty that was bestowed upon him allows his life to possess some meaning. And although minuscule, it granted him time. Time to discovered the intended meaning in his life.
