He believed that he would die this way until, when he was 33 years old, he was held by two strange pilgrims. With his newfound health, he set out to challenge an infamous giant, a deified hero named Svyatogor, despite the wise and mystic pilgrims warning him against such an action, that it would bring only burden. He ignored their warnings and left home with a mace to slay the giant. On his travels, he meets such a giant, asleep on a gargantuan horse. He strikes the sleeping hulk three times, only for the giant to, while still sleeping, put Ilya in his pocket. When the giant awakes, Ilya introduces himself and learns that the giant is none other than Svyatogor. Learning that he wasn't some monster, but actually a good and just man, Ilya befriended his once-enemy and they begin journeying together. After a few years of traveling, they arrive at a large stone coffin and both are given a vision of Svyatogor resting in it. Desperate to save the life of his friend, Ilya managed to lie down in the coffin first, but nothing happens, as he is far too small to fit it. Svyatogor, wise as he was strong, lifted his friend from the coffin and rested in it himself. As he did, it began to close of its own volition, slowing easing into the earth beneath them to bury Svyatogor. With his last breath, the giant transferred the whole of his superhuman might into Ilya, a final gift to his friend. Having the strength of a hero, but needing a method of travel, Ilya found a strong and good foal named her Karushka. He washed her, walked her, raised her himself, all the while telling her that she would be the steed of a hero of the people. As she entered adulthood, she carved out her own legend, being Ilya's flying steed who could trample an army to death. Ilya would go on to appear throughout Russia alongside Karushka as a hero to the people and defender of the innocent for nearly five-hundred years, becoming known across the land as both a powerful hero and a devout saint. He accomplished many grand feats, even being known for defending an entire city alone against an enemy army, but his most famous feat was defeating Nightingale the Robber, a powerful beast that had the form of both man and bird, and would murder people with its powerful whistle. Ilya defeated the beast in single combat, being able to resist the whistle, and brought it before Prince Vladimir of Kiev. The Prince wanted to hear the beast's whistle, so he gave it some wine to heal its wounds. He understands the value of hard work and dedication, and believes that sets him apart from the magi who were born into their power. He can be very kind at times, and has a good head on his shoulders that is tempered by the heart in his chest. However, when he feels he has been slighted, or makes a person his enemy, he is stubborn as a mule, with a dangerously short fuse. Bio: The Airell line may have been a magus family of meager power long ago, but recently, it has been in shambles, unofficially declared dead. The family hadn't produced a single magus in several generations, and was devastated and forced to leave their homeland of Ireland during the Great Famine. Now finding themselves without magic and scattered throughout the United States, they had all but given up any hope of ever competing in the Grail War. However, that all changed when Prydwyn was born. The son of Alistair and Evelyn Airell, he was the first to utilize magecraft in since his great grandfather, and his skill with magecraft was impressive, indeed. His parents lived a hard life on dirty streets, lying, cheating, and stealing their way to enough money to send Prydwyn back to Ireland as a young boy, leaving him with instructions on how to find the old family estate. When he got there, he discovered the head of his family. Living as a centuries-old mage, kept alive through rituals that had rendered him almost totally unable to move, Cloich Airell had been waiting for the emergence of a worthy successor to be born once again into the family, as the few remaining mages died during the famine. Upon meeting Prydwyn, he was filled with joy at the prospect of the family's magecraft surviving into a new generation, and brought him to a special antechamber within the estate. There, he transferred the entirety of the family's Crest onto Prydwyn, an act that resulted in Cloich's death. He entered the great beyond with a smile on his face, leaving Prydwyn with all the power the family had ever managed to muster over its existence. Prydwyn thanked his ancestor for the gift and with a renewed vigor, went on to explore the rest of the manor. Within the old library he discovered the research the family was doing, focusing heavily on archaeological digs to find a certain artifact. It took Prydwyn several years, picking up where they left off, but eventually he was able to get his hands on a Giant rune of flame, an extremely powerful source of fire magic. He set off to the East, having heard rumors of a certain ritual held there, with the prize being an omnipotent wish-granting device. --- Magic Circuit Switch: The sound of rain against a thin roof. Number of Magic Circuits: B Quality of Magic Circuits: A --- Elemental Affinity: Fire Origin: Struggle Magecraft: Prydwyn excels in Rune magecraft, particularly in Ansuz, Gandr, and Ehwaz. He is also quite skilled in Reinforcement, which is the magecraft held within his Crest, but only the reinforcement of self, being able to increase his physical ability through magic. His typical method of combat is to use Gandr and Ansuz to keep enemies outside of melee range, but if he feels the need to switch, he has a habit of increasing his speed through reinforcement and pressuring the opponent with close-range magic attacks. His full list of runes are as follows: Ansuz: Giant Rune of fire Berkana: Tracking rune Ehwaz: Hardening rune Gandr: Curse-shooting spell Sowilo: Rune of the sun Crest: Technically 302 years old, but it has been assumed dead until about 26 years ago.
