One child of a family of artisans, Auldin spent the early years of his life being raised and taught the family craft, with a gift of knowledge above his peers. His aunt might say that since he could walk the boy picked up on things faster than children normally do. With 3 older siblings and 2 younger, he did still have some familial competition. So it was that his path was set, but not in stone. As it was, when he was twelve years of age and out learning some trade with some family, a scholarly man saw something in him. It would be later that day when he and his parents were approached by the elderly man, and he explained that he wished to take Auldin in as a student. The discussion was continued for several days until, with Auldin admitting an interesting in learning from him, he was allowed to take the boy on as an apprentice. While it wasn't a step up in life for any member of the family, it was quite a change for Auldin to become a wizard's apprentice. Well, student. One of the conditions of his parents was that his education was solely and general topics until he turned 13. So for the first year the young boy would absorb basic knowledge, and some more advanced knowledge. When he turned thirteen, his studies finally began leaning into the field of magic. At the age of 15 came the second twist in Auldin's life, when his mentor thought him ready to gain access to the city library. It was here that Auldin decided to study and learn his family's history and found that it went back centuries. It was also where he discovered that he had a powerful magic user as an ancestor, but oddly enough there was hardly anything about him, just vague references. It wasn't until he stumbled upon a near ancient old tome, practically entirely illegible, that he just managed to make out what kind of castor this ancestor was. Necromancer. It was considered by most to be an evil magic, and at the time Auldin immediately returned the book and told himself never to reach into such a field again. However, his interest in studying magic had increased drastically, and over the next four years he dove into his education with new fervor. At the same time, his curiosity about his ancestor and that form of magic slowly grew, and he returned to those books to find out what he could, which was very little more than he already knew. Nearing the age of nineteen, Auldin heard of new advances along the frontier, and new discoveries to be made. So, after getting permission from his wizard mentor and saying farewell to his family, he set out with very little for a new start on the frontier, and see what he could learn about necromancy, if only to understand why his ancestor pursued that magic.
