[/quote] This is one that I'm a big fan of. A character is only as good as their supporting cast. Richard Stark's [i]Parker[/i] series does this very well. Essentially, a whole 1/3rd of the book will be dedicated to the people Parker is about to get revenge on living their lives after fucking him over.. and you as the reader get the pleasure of reading and waiting for the other shoe to drop.
