Also, had no idea you were fishing for input, but, here: I have been a part of a game or two where dice rolling was a part of the mechanics, however all of the RNG was handled by the GM, for the sake of consistency and neutrality. He made it fairly simple on himself I believe. Also helped to make things more fluid, and like most PbP gaming, rather than devolving situations that called for it into short, brief, one line encounters. Other games have just done as you are doing, using a set of rules as a framework, and comparison aid more than anything. Either way works fine for me.
