They're created when a vampire willingly infects them after draining their blood. I guess they could eat human food, but it probably wouldn't sit well with them. They probs need to drink every 3 days or so. And they heal much faster than humans.

I wouldn't suggest having her turned in the very latest attacks, for future plot reasons. But maybe she could have been turned in another town.
