Regardless of how she views others under her direct care - none can say she doesn't care. Eugene holds herself to higher standards than the other surgeons of the department and in turn expects her fellow residents to meet them, which has the unfortunate benefit of giving Eugene a reputation for being something of a stick in the mud given her distaste for things she considers to be 'frivolous' such as her views on the 'booty on-call room'. Everything aside, however, and it's easy to see why Eugene is at home when she is allowed to scrub in; her bedside manner could use some work but her meticulous nature and perfectionist preferences makes her a boon with the scalpel. Eugene is a hard person to like on the job, but she's playing the long game and that leaves little times for making friends.

Actual Personality: Eugene feels like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders damn near every day, and that's before adding to the fact that lives are literally in the hands of her and her surgeons. In truth, she's often jealous of her peers when said peers seem to be managing the hectic and stressful realities of the job with a seemingly normal social and romantic life. She's well aware that the majority of her social interactions comes with dealing with patients who think they know better than the staff or from desperately trying to let other doctors let her scrub in, and that takes its toll. While it's true she hasn't made friends with her residents, she also respects them all individually. They've earned at least that much just by making it this far and putting on the scrubs.

History: The only thing that matters with Eugene's history is her credentials, and that's all she typically talks about. She was born overseas, in Busan, but her family relocated to the States when her father's job at an automobile manufacturer needed an experienced hand to manage a new branch in America. Eugene, born Yunjin, didn't always want to be in the medical profession, there was a time where she figured working on cars like her dad would be fine, but the best bit of advice her parents gave her was not feeling the need to simply follow in their footsteps. In high school Yunjin thought she might like to be a cop after the school had a D.A.R.E. assembly. She still isn't sure why she opted to enter the medical program at the Pritzker School at her university but it was the right choice. She was going to do her residency at Chicago Medical Center and they would have been happy to have her - but she heard about Jack Marshall and the idea of a competing hospital sounded promising - and put in to transfer to Caduceus Mercy which was a risk to say the least. She makes no attempt to hide the fact that she is ladder oriented in that she has every intention of making Chief of Surgery by any means necessary. Most simply think she's arrogant because of it. Anything else about Eugene she keeps mostly to herself. Except why she goes by Eugene, and that's because one of her earliest patients had difficulty saying 'Yunjin' and kept calling her 'Eugene'. Some of her peers thought it was funny and used it to poke fun.

"In everybody’s life there’s a point of no return. It seems like a rather insane plan given that ten years isn't all that much time, but she has a plan. Three years to make attending. Five years as an attending, then two years as a department head while grooming the chief for her own promotion. She knows she has the skills, at least she thinks she does, so the only one who can stand in the way of her goal is, as always, herself. She also wouldn't say no to being invited to the bar with her other surgical residents. At least once. Maybe.
Fears

Malpractice
Heights. She only reluctantly took a plane to move from Chicago to California because it was cheaper than hauling everything she brought with her in a car.
Meaningful Relationships, given the fact that she doesn't seem to have friends or romantic pursuits.

Likes

Fuji Apple flavored water
Fiction novels in the magical realism genre
A glass of wine with a good meal
Funk music
Chamomile tea before bed
Cats
The lack of winter weather

Dislikes

The 'booty on-call room'
Liars, specifically patients who aren't upfront about their medical history or drug use.
More than one glass of wine/alcoholic beverages
Gossip in the work place
The 'surgery corner' in the lobby.

Reputation
An overly serious over-achiever who should be making friends and connections while she can but doesn't seem to know how.
Extra information She owns a cat named Kafka. She has a stuffed animal she sleeps with and once made the mistake of bringing it to the on-call room. There was a picture taken. That was not a fun week.
