The surroundings were still and quiet, even in the presence of lost souls consigned to oblivion. They drowned in waters once brimful with life and beauty - now smothered in death. However, a conversation sparked some positivity when Hadrian broke his vow of silence and revealed a little bit about himself to Robert. Despite being truths of evil men and their horrific actions, Robert was glad to see Hadrian was still human inside. "I'm glad we met Hadrian. The people we meet, the love that we share with them and our faith is what defines us. When we let our circumstances change who we are, that's when we stray from the path. You're a good man," Robert responded, believing in his core that people were good - that if given the opportunity, they could display that righteousness and pay it forward in the eyes of their Lord and Savior. Anyway, their kind exchange came to an end as the soldier entered a mode of defense. Robert's act of kindness - a friendly offering of food - was blocked by what Hadrian labeled imminent danger. Robert could hear the truck clearly now, but his visibility of the vehicle was obstructed by the tree line and his age. As Robert put away the food, he became worried by Hadrian's call to action. The word 'chase' might have derived from his necessity to act, but it was surely out of character. It could have also been a lack of understanding between the two men, but Robert interpreted his words as assault. "They may need our help..." Robert asserted, holding optimism over fear yet again. He moved around Hadrian to take the lead and continue towards the vehicle ahead. He could see the silhouette of a single lost soul, but his eyes were fixed on the possibility of finding someone alive - his wife even. He picked up his pace despite Hadrian's obvious desire for stealth and moved at a much quicker pace. He removed his round dowel from his backpack's cup holder and prepared himself in case of an emergency. "Know this Hadrian, the most selfless thing we can do in this world is to help someone else. I think that's my purpose here. I hope you can understand that."
