The type of kid to find something exciting about absolutely anything, Plutus is hyperactive and free spirited. A lot tends to go over his head, which he doesn't seem to mind so much. Ignorance is bliss after all. Not the brightest tool in the shed, but definitely the bravest! Plutus fancies himself a bit of an adventurer, like the ones he used to read of when he was a kid. In fact, he does his best every day to emulate those heroes in the books as much as he can. Plutus, unable to keep his nose out of other peoples business and in way over his head, has a tendency to jump on any chance to be helpful. This often leads him into some very undesirable situations. Or at least that's what anyone who isn't Plutus would think. To him, danger is just another form of excitement! The rush of a life or death quest, the breeze in his hair as he soars high above the earth with spear in hand, and the warmth in his heart when he can make the difference to a soul in need. These are all the things Plutus lives for. Plutus sees the good in everyone, even his grumpy companion Bayard. It is Plutus' goal to become a hero, which he believes he can achieve by fulfilling the task he came to Fiore for. An orthodox magic, used by Knights of a faraway land to bring down fierce wyverns from the skies. The Dragoons, clad in heavy armor, used their magic to leap high into the skies before charging lance first into their prey. The gracefulness of their flight and scale piercing force of their dives which utilize the entirety of their body weight is a hallmark of the Dragoon Knights.
Vault: The Dragoon takes to the skies at incredible speeds.

Tailwind: Whilst airborne, the Dragoon may vault laterally up to three times before beginning their descent.

Zephyr: Vaults the Dragoon forward along the ground with an intense rush of speed. Targets he collides with along the path are briefly sent airborne. Dive: Plummets from the skies to deliver a devastating piercing attack. Hurricane Dive: Descends from the skies with a powerful Dive that sends all targets near the impact point airborne. Dancing Edge: Dashes forward whilst airborne with a wide sweep of the lance. If Dancing Edge successfully hits a target, the Dragoon is able to execute an additional vault to maintain altitude. Spinning Edge: Dashes forward whilst airborne, rapidly spinning forward with the lance extended. The Dragoon becomes a flying wheel of death and is able to traverse the skies at higher velocities than normal.

Wheeling Thrust: Uses the forward momentum from Spinning Edge to execute a powerful Dive capable of piercing through heavy physical and magical defenses.

Equipment

✦ Jörmungandr: Plutus' glaive, Jörmungandr, was taken from his Mother. She told him the weapon holds a hidden power that the Dragoons of his homeland are able to tap into. Though Plutus has long since forgotten this tidbit. ✦ Wyvernscale Armor: Enchanted scale-mail of the Dragoon Knights, granting resistance to Wyvern Fire as well as absorbing the impact of Dive abilities. ✦ Candy Cigarettes: "See? He is able to wield the weapon at an adequate level; by no means a master but diligent enough to hold his own in a fight. True to the teachings of his village, Plutus is trained in the unique fighting style of the Dragoon Knights. His powerful legs can leap high into the sky and easily maneuver to line up a perfect, piercing dive. He avoids direct confrontation, instead using his magic and natural agility to daze foes with a series of vaults, flips and twirls. All the while lashing out with his glaive in deadly arcs and lunges. Plutus is notoriously slippery in combat, with even the most skilled fighters having trouble locking him down due to his peculiar pole arm style. However the weight of his armor can be a burden sometimes, causing him to over exert himself if he isn't mindful of his stamina and pacing.

History

Plutus came to Fiore a few years ago in search of his sister, Fay, who had been taken a few months prior during a raid on his home village. Born in Isvan, in a mountain range famous for its treacherous wyverns and year long winters, Plutus grew up surrounded by the herioic Dragoon Knights. His parents both served as Dragoons, keeping the skies clear of wyverns so that Plutus and his sister could enjoy the day. It wasn't long before the young boy insisted he begin his training to join them. The complete opposite of his studious sister, who spent her days analyzing star maps and reading the constellations. Fay had a knack for interpreting the night sky, and would often predict when the next wyverns were due to attack or the best times to harvest crops. Her gift did not go unnoticed, however. One day, raiders came to the village with one goal; capture the young astrologian. Those who possessed Fay's gift were rare indeed, and it came as no surprise to the village when a malicious soul came to claim her power for their own. Despite fighting valiantly, the Dragoon Knights fell to the Dark Wizards among the raiders and Fay was whisked away from her home. Plutus remembers calling out to her, but she was too petrified to answer. The next day, Plutus helped his mother tend to the wounded. His father had set out with a search party to bring his sister home. Things weren't the same without Fay. Even the stars were dimmed without her presence. Plutus' mother couldn't bring herself to fight any longer, spending most of her days inside. The young boy couldn't stand to see her suffer. Plutus made a choice one day, leaving behind only a note and taking his mothers glaive on a quest to join his father in finding his sister. Their paths have yet to cross. His journey has taken him across the world, facing all types of treachery. He's made a few enemies, but even some friends. His quest lead him to Fiore, after all, a land of such wondrous magic. There is no doubt in his mind that Fay is here; among other brilliantly gifted mages. Plutus could only hope he wasn't too late to save her.

✦ Character Theme | Short Hair ✦

Full Name

Bayard Lux

Age

23

Gender

Male

Species

Human

Personality

Brash and unruly, Bayard makes sure those who encounter him never forget it. A little rough around the edges, it's no surprise to most that Bayard isn't the biggest socialite in the world. He doesn't mind company, but is easily annoyed and lacks the necessary filters to keep him from running his mouth. Easily bored, Bayard tends to make his own excitement when push comes to shove. Unfortunately for him, not many people look kindly on his little outbursts. There's a lot of anxiety when it comes to exploring his emotions. Bayard would rather people think him some tough street punk than expose his weaker side to them. Even close friends find themselves being pushed away during times of insecurity. Yet despite this reluctance, Bayard is intensely invested in the well-being of those he would call family. In particular, Bayard is quite protective over Plutus; though if asked he'd deny it. Bayard isn't the type of person to back down from a challenge, but he's also humble enough to accept when he's beat. While not really the courageous hero type of guy Plutus thinks he is, he can't just sit by and watch people suffer injustice. His status as a vigilante has made him quite wary of who he can place his trust in, but he has no intention of stopping anytime soon.

Strengths

✦ Adept Swordsman ✦ Confident ✦ Skilled musician, vocals

Weaknesses

✦ Stubborn ✦ Reculusive ✦ Broken Wing

Guild

Rogue

Mage Rank

B Rank

Magic

Lumière Croix Wizards born into the noble House Lux possess the ability to manifest their spirit as a pair of wings made of holy light. These incandescent appendages are intangible and illuminate the immediate area around them. When the Lumière Croix are activated, the user is able to wield potent Light Magic. All Lux Wizards who possess the Lumière Croix are able to control the speed of their descent and detect the presence of evil. Additionally, each Lux Wizard possesses a unique magical aspect granted to them by their wings. Bayard lost one of his wings some time ago. As a result, the effectiveness of his flight, evil detection and Bastille is reduced.
Bastille: Bayard’s wings wrap around himself and up to three people, solidifying into a nigh impenetrable barrier that grows weaker with each attack that strikes it. As it suffers continuous damage, the wings begin to crack and crumble until they eventually shatter. Sword Oath: Bayard’s sword radiates with a holy light, gaining increased cutting power and bathing all nearby allies’ weapons in a similar light. Additionally, Bayard and his allies gain Smite. Cannot be used during Shield Oath.

Smite: Afflicted targets are more effective versus dark forces such as demons and dark magics.

Shield Oath: Bayard assumes a defensive stance with his sword, creating a large ring of holy magic around himself. This ring significantly slows the velocity of all projectiles that enter it. Bayard moves slower, but becomes highly durable. Additionally, Bayard and his allies gain Ward from Evil. Cannot be used during Sword Oath.

Ward from Evil: Afflicted targets become highly resistant to the effects of Dark Magic.

Sword Oath – Techniques: Can only be accessed when Bayard is in Sword Oath.

Broken Wings: Three enhanced sword strikes that carry Bayard forward with a gentle beat of his wings. The finale is a downward strike that unleashes a blinding blast of light.

Tackle: Interrupts Broken Wings combo to charge forward in a rush of light, damaging and briefly stunning a target.

Spirits Within: Plunges Bayard’s sword into the earth, releasing a radial discharge of holy light that stuns and disorients all caught within the effect. Holy Spirit: Fires a beam of razor sharp light from Bayard's blade, piercing targets over a long range.

Shield Oath – Techniques: Can only be accessed when Bayard is in Shield Oath.

Guardian Angel: Glides to a targets side up to a moderate distance away, granting Bayard and his target a brief increase to speed and defenses. Clemency: Heals a single target for a moderate amount. Bulwark: Removes a single detrimental effect from a target. Sheltron: Assumes a stationary, defensive stance that allows Bayard to fully block the next physical strike against him. The weapon is frowned upon by the Knights of House Lux, but Bayard ceased to care for their opinions long ago. ✦ Serrated Throwing Knives: Simple, lightweight tools that cause bleeding. Bayard's employment of throwing knives is yet another strategy looked down on by his family. In his own words, "If it works, it works". ✦ Cigarettes and Lighter: Bayard smiles every time he remember the mortified expression on his mother's face when she found out he smoked.

Fighting Style

Skilled with his Greatsword, Bayard uses solid footwork and a keen eye to outmaneuver his foes in combat. With the size and weight of his weapon limiting him, he tends to play on the defensive most fights. Utilizing any and all tactics, including dirty fighting tricks, Bayard creates openings in his opponent before going in for a mighty cleave. Bayard wields his weapon in his left hand, using his weaker right arm to deliver quick jabs or shoulder tackles into unsuspecting opponents. He never wields his weapon with two hands, as his training under House Lux was for utilizing both sword and shield. Bayard is quite physically fit, possessing enough stamina to keep up with skilled opponents. True to his rambunctious nature, Bayard likes settling disputes with his bare hands first and foremost. He only ever draws his blade when it becomes clear he'll need to use his magic to protect himself or others.

History

In the Capital of Crocus, the prestigious manor of House Lux presides. Once a family of famed Paladins, wielding the power of Holy Light to smite blasphemers, the Lux clansmen have since hung up that mantle in exchange for the prestige of being affiliated with Fiore's royalty. While the Holy magic of their forefathers is still passed down through the family, the Lux Wizards tend to offer their services to the Rune Knights nowadays rather than the pursuit of evil. Gerard Lux, father of four and current head of House Lux, will always be remembered with the utmost contempt by his son Bayard. A ruthless dictator to the family, Gerard was insistent that his three sons and daughter would make him proud as Fiore's best and brightest Knights. In pursuit of this dream, Bayard and his siblings were subject to the most grueling physical and mental training. The very best money could buy. While each of the four children were rebellious in their own ways, it was Bayard who was Gerard's biggest thorn in his side. He copped the worst beatings from his father, oftentimes just to protect his younger siblings and draw his father's ire away from them. In particular, he worried for his youngest brother Simon. The boy was just not cut out for being a Knight, and the training was taking too heavy a toll. When Bayard brought up his concerns with his father, Gerard took it to mean that Simon needed stricter instruction. The next week, Simon was sent away to Isvan to train at a notoriously nightmarish military complex. Bayard and his siblings were told he could write weekly. They never received a single letter. The very final straw for Bayard was Gerard's intention to wed his only daughter, Isadora, with the son of another noble family. His hope was that the arranged marriage would further his personal agenda to gain favor with the royal family. The man Gerard intended to hand his daughter to was at least twice her age, with a malicious look in his eye. Even at the age of fifteen, Bayard knew he had to stop this stranger from taking his sister away. So he slit the man's throat in the dead of night. The next few days were mostly a blur. Having never taken a life before, Bayard become more and more frightened at the reality of what he did. Not to mention how furious his father was. The beatings his received for his 'little stunt' as Gerard put it were severe. His father even resorted to using his own magic, something he had never done while punishing Bayard. As a result, one of Bayard's magical wings was permanently broken. More interested in protecting the family name, Gerard made sure to cover up everything as best he could and stage the death as an unfortunate accident. When the dust began to settle, Gerard shoved Bayard out the door and disowned him from the family. Over the last few years Bayard has floated through life, picking fights in bars and taking the odd security job. He even had a brief stint with a Dark Guild, just working as hired muscle for them. It was here he encountered Plutus. The little idiot's grin was infectious, and Bayard couldn't help but think of his lost brother Simon. Plutus was a young adventurer who had heard of the Dark Guild's misdeeds and decided to take them on. When Bayard stood opposite him in the forest that day, Plutus was severely outnumbered. They were mostly thugs, but even that would have been enough to take him down. Yet he stood resolute, lance at the ready as he goaded the ruffians into striking first. Bayard isn't sure what compelled him to throw the first punch into his comrades head, the ensuing fight was too much of a blur. Yet when he and Plutus were the last ones standing, it became clear to him that this kid might be worth sticking around. The two have grown in infamy over the last year they've been together, a pair of wizard vigilantes wanted by the Rune Knights for their obstruction of justice and property damage. Bayard had never put much thought into what he wanted his life to be, but helping others in need whilst being on the run was a hell of a lot better than following the path laid out for him by his father.
