 Karter looked around for the man that told him what was going on, so he could thank him. The Commotion made that harder that it was worth. He said "thank you?" anyway.

 Karter noticed someone trying to get his attention. [i]No... that can't be right. Who could see me in this crowd?[/i] He decided to investigate anyway, pushing his way over in that direction as discreetly and politely as possible. He's still drowsy, so "as secretly and politely as possible" is not particularly discreet and only a bit more polite.
