Backstory: Black Pearl belonged to White Diamond’s court before the Great Gem War. She served one of White Diamond’s Hessonites, but she was severely mistreated. She suffered verbal and physical abuse from both her Hessonite and her Hessonite’s comrades. Because of this, she is very quiet, reserved, and shy, and has extremely low self-esteem. Even now that she is a Crystal Gem, she still tends to revert to her old ways, allowing others to speak for her and offering her services to anyone and everyone, expecting nothing in return except punishment for doing something wrong. Sometimes, when feeling especially anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed, she suffers from panic attacks and forgets that she is around friends, believing that she is back on Homeworld serving her cruel mistress.
