Personal Style: Riley's inability to express herself with her words is made up for in how she dresses. If it isn't colorful, frilly or showing off some indie band, then she likely wouldn't ever bother with it. Bright yellows, pinks and purples on polka-dots, stripes and all sorta of frills. She prefers long sleeve button-ups and skirts over Tees and jeans. She has an incredible ability to recall facts and process information, something like a living, breathing computer. Her fascination with mathematics, space and biology has turned into something of a lifestyle. She eats, breathes and lives within these worlds of knowledge, and has since she was just a little girl. However, this has had an...unexpected affect on her development. That is to say, Riley hasn't developed. As a child she never played, spoke or befriended other children because she was too busy pouring over books and TV shows. Her parents never pushed her toward socializing, allowing Riley to invest herself so heavily into everything about the world except that which was directly around her. Rogers has been trying to fix her issues in her adulthood, but she's left with a complete inability to relate to those around her. She can't read social cues. She can't properly communicate how she feels, or even communicate very well at all. It takes her five minutes to say something that would take any normal person a handful of sentences. She's awkward, clumsy and awfully naive. But Rogers tries; she tries her hardest to act like a normal person. Habits: When Riley has something she wishes to say (which) is often, she'll adjust and push up her glasses. She'll often pause in the middle of sentences to think of what she wants to say next. Riley was doing what she always did after she came home from school- burying her head in a book that would've bored most kids her age to tears, but she loved it. She loved learning about the stars and the planets; constellations and orbits fascinated her young, hungry mind, even if she didn't understand most of it. Her parents were arguing with her older sister in the other room. Her mom was crying, but dad and sister were screaming at each other. It was far from the first time they'd yelled at each other... But it would be the last. Riley's older sister ran away that night. She was found three days later. She'd been in a fatal car accident, her BAC level near fatal levels. History: Born with thus far unidentified mental issues, Riley Rogers was never a 'normal' kid. She had trouble connecting with individuals and a near perfect memory for recalling facts. She was able to understand surprisingly complex math and science from a very young age, showing a near protege level of intellect. But Riley could never translate that to wisdom or social prowess. She found herself shying away from people, even her family and the few friends that she had. Her parents tried to push her to be more out-going in the very early years, but their attention was mostly held on her older sibling, Sophia. Sophia was a troubled young woman. She was incredibly rebellious, fighting against authority at every turn with every fiber of her being. There was an undeniable anger bubbling just underneath the surface that came out in thrashing, screaming rage. Her dad tried to fight it down, but that only ever made it worse. Eventually, at only the age of sixteen, Sophia had had enough. She ran off and began to drink heavily, ditching school and responsibilities to hang out with other local no-goods. Her lifestyle caught up to her in a mere three days when she crashed her vehicle while intoxicated, taking her life and those of the other car's passengers. The Rogers were devastated. They blamed themselves for her death, their grief quickly creating a swirling vortex that sucked all of the good out of their lives. As a consequence, Riley's parents grew apart from her. They took a radical turn in their parenting style, deciding that the best way to let Riley grow up was to not push her toward anything or to interfere at all. They couldn't have anticipated the longlasting damage it caused. Before, the girl was anti-social and not inclined to pursue friendship or interactions with others. Afterward, with no one to help her leave her shell, she retreated further and further within her studies until her growth completely froze for almost a decade. She studied, read and learned, absorbing information as a means to cope with what had happened, graduating high school with a perfect GPA as a result. Riley, now a full grown woman, has realized she has to jump start her life again. Unable to so much as say hello during interviews, it was no surprise that she couldn't find work. Despite all of her knowledge and all of the skills she'd taught herself, Riley was utterly useless if she could not convey that either in speech or writing, both of which she failed horribly at every time she attempted it. It was when she was at the end of her rope that she approached the Springton Watch and was interviewed by the ever calm and emphatic Harper Griffin. Harper, with the patience of a saint, was able to slowly but surely coax Riley's story from the incredibly awkward and nervous young woman. The two made a swift connection, and Riley found herself with her very first friend since she was nine years old. Harper took Rogers in as an assistant at the paper, on the girl's word that she would seek out the help of a local therapist to work her way through her numerous issues. The two have worked together for a year so far, and Riley finally feels as if she's making progress.
