Her choice in stylings are usually understated, with darker colors and few standout patterns or designs; however, she still believes in the importance of appearances. She keeps herself and her attire clean, pressed and appealing without drawing a great deal of attention. Vests and sweaters over a dress shirt, or a turtleneck if it's particularly chilly. Rarely wears skirts, dresses or jeans, favoring dress pants over all else. It's incredibly rare for her to every approach a problem without considering everything that could possibly go wrong. She prepares extensively for everything, always keeping in mind what her outs might be if she takes a wrong step or an unexpected factor rears it's head. She's hyper critical of herself to when she inevitably fails, offering harsh criticisms even for situations that were totally unavoidable. As far as Harper is concerned, no bad outcome is truly unavoidable; she simply failed to prepare for everything. She has a much harder time judging the actions of others. The most she will do is offer suggestions when she sees someone else straying, never pushing too hard for fear of upsetting them. Griffin was raised to be respectful and kind to everyone, even those that might not necessarily deserve it. She avoids criticizing or disagreeing with her coworkers, friends and family, sidestepping any potential confrontation every time it might rear it's head. It's become second nature even in her work to avoid using divisive language or pushing too strongly for anything, even those things which she might personally hold close to her heart. This makes her quite likable in the eyes of most, but comes with the unintended side affect of her being rather easy to walk over with how hesitant she is to oppose anyone on anything. She spent every waking moment alone in a hospital room, clutching her mom's hand for hours on end. Harper did little outside of praying for her recovery; she rarely slept without passing out and only ever rose to feed herself when the nurses forced her to do so. It was seven hellish days of fighting to hold on to some hope that her mother would make it through it, yet...in the end, she had passed. History: Mr. and Mrs. Griffin had separated soon after Harper was born. Mr. Griffin's work as a church planter had him travelling across the United States and beyond, staying in towns and cities for several months at a time until he was finished and had to move on to the next. The former Mrs. Griffin thought that was no way for a child to live, and decided Harper and her would make roots in Toronto. A long distance marriage wasn't going to work for either of them- so, with heavy hearts, they went their separate ways. Both still loved each other and their daughter very much. Her father returned to Toronto every chance he got to catch up with his daughter and ex-wife in person, keeping in contact over the phone and Facebook for years. It wasn't easy for Harper growing up, but she knew they were both trying, and that was what mattered. She was seventeen years old when her mother was diagnosed with cancer. She was already deep into it by the time the doctors had caught what was happening to her body. By then, it was practically too late to do anything. Harper spent the next year of her life tending to her sickly mother. Her father returned to Toronto to spend every moment he could with his family. They didn't have the money for Mr. Griffin to stay unemployed for a full year, so he was forced to take up work in the city in order to pay for his ex-wife's increasingly expensive medical bills. Unfortunately, during the week in which she was at her worst, he was stolen away by his work and unable to come by; he believed that making sure she was getting the best care possible was the best way to help her, leaving the rest up to the Lord. But the Lord giveth, and the lord taketh away; and after seven days of suffering with only her daughter at her side, Harper's mother lost her battle and succumbed to the tumors. Harper and her father left Toronto together and moved down to the last town he had helped build a church in. The congregation offered him a position as their pastor and he gladly took it, hoping to settle down now that Harper was his responsibility- after all, that was what her mother had wanted. Harper began to pursue the passions her mother had instilled in her while she was younger, finding work at the local paper. It wasn't anything too terribly exciting (small town reporting rarely is) but it was fulfilling work, and it was preparing her for the career she hoped to build later on in her life.
