Bonnie is, to those around her, a very fun and very bright girl. She is genuine and straightforward, uplifting in nature and exceedingly loyal. Bonnie is one of those people who almost everyone seems to like; she is friendly, efficient, makes small talk and always seems to be at ease. Even when facing stressful situations it is rare for her to be anything other than calm, assured and pleasant. She is known for having fun; banter with the nurses, flirting with her co-workers and she has a reputation for being able to down more shots than any of the Emergency Department staff. She can be a touch promiscuous at times and has the habit of speaking up whenever she feels she should. Bonnie seems to have little understanding or faith in the hierarchy of the hospital, and often wrongly, believes she is free to speak up whenever she deems appropriate.  [/indent]

Bonnie is a confident young woman and she is unafraid to take risks, is quick to judge and act. Clinically, she is exceedingly capable. There are few situations in which Bonnie finds herself unable to take action and the frequent emergencies within medicine often fail to catch her off guard. To add to her great qualities as a doctor Bonnie is very sociable, she is often the centre of attention in social circles and has excellent people skills - backed up with a passion for patient care and a person-centred approach. Unfortunately for Bonnie many of her great strengths are also some of her greatest weaknesses. Bonnie is, for lack of a better term, ballsy and sometimes is ballsier than a first-year resident should be. She does not always assess the risks of a situation before acting and has a nasty habit of overstepping the line. Her passionate nature can also work against her when she becomes too worked up or involved in a case and loses her clinical objectivity. While Bonnie certainly has the medical skill required to be a surgeon, she does not have the typical personality of one. Bonnie is an open book; she lacks reserve and keeps few secrets about herself and she, often wrongly, presumes that other people do the same making her a poor judge of character and giving her the mistaken thought process that her colleagues are a team and in it together - this causes her to trust her colleagues are genuine with their intentions and makes her a bit of a pushover. She easily feels guilty about leaving her fellow doctors and nurses in the lurch and can easily be persuaded to undertake more unpleasant tasks or switch duties with someone because she believes that should she find herself in need, the same kindness will be paid back to her. When it comes to men Bonnie is attracted to her natural confidence propels her forward and she is known for, in some cases quite literally, grabbing what she wants. Despite her flaws, it is clear to most people who meet Bonnie that, like most of the rest of her first-year classmates, all she wants is to be a good doctor, capable surgeon and decent human being. Bonita Laurel Faith Richardson is the first of three children. Her parents went with the name as their attempt at being cute, they failed. As a young girl, Bonnie didn't particularly have many desires or dreams, she had the usual kid stuff of becoming the little mermaid or saving all of China, or going off with a handsome prince but no practical life goals but she liked to know how things worked. She would always take apart broken things, often simply breaking them further, to see where the problem was. She liked fixing things and helping people in the same way most children do. When she became a big sister for the first and second time she enjoyed helping her parents care for them - but there was never any one single event that inspired Bonnie to become a doctor. 

One only needs to have a conversation with Bonnie to understand that she came from a privileged home and is relatively sheltered. Her parents worked good jobs and could afford a nanny and the latest clothes, shoes and gadgets that the children wanted. A relatively materialistic upbringing to say the least. Bonnie spent much of her childhood with nice possessions which attracted plenty of other friends - and once she hit puberty, she had little trouble attracting boys. Bonnie had the typical pretty rich girl high school experience; a hot boyfriend who was captain of a sports team, prom queen, cheerleading squad, student council president. The whole cliche, and the whole kind of thing that looks great on college and med school applications. 

Bonnie had always been a great student and whilst she had a love of organic chemistry (nobody knows why not even Bonnie) the prospect of sitting in a lab all day didn't thrill her. She wanted something challenging, varied and meaningful. And also to be able to live, which given the way the economy was going was pretty 50/50. But despite her woes, Bonnie found herself thriving in the college environment. Her good looks made her popular with men and women alike and her taste and tolerance for alcohol, and every now and then something else, made the party experience enjoyable every time. It was an enthused college professor who first brought up medical school to Bonnie - which at first seemed like an outrageous suggestion - surely the Sorority Queen of the Keg Stand couldn't be a doctor? But a few weeks volunteering at a nursing home, continued good grades, a stint in the debate club and previous accolades proved otherwise and Bonnie found herself a student at Harvard Medical School.

Medical School seemed to fly by for Bonnie; she was sat in her first-day lectures one minute and enjoying her final elective placement the next. During her studies, Bonnie had found a passion for medicine, a nice boyfriend and had settled with the idea of becoming an OB/GYN. But everybody knows they say about people making plans. Due to an unfortunate, but not uncommon, administrative error and mix up Bonnie's elective placement at Baylor was switched to the Cardiothoracic Department. She wasn't exactly happy about it, but Bonnie knew she could smile politely and retract for six weeks but four hours into her first shift saw the team perform an emergency thoracotomy on a victim of a stabbing; Bonnie watched from start to finish in awe and a love of a cardio was implanted within her. The divine inspiration finally struck and Bonnie spent the next six weeks learning all she could. 

The time for matching into a speciality programme came, as it does for all medical graduates, and Bonnie made a strong but admittedly last-minute application to the best surgical programmes in the country. Including the programme at Caduceus Memorial Hospital as she heard the curriculum provided plenty of opportunity to for secondments into specialist areas, research and a chance to build up a strong sub-specialist portfolio ready for boards. Her boyfriend at the time, Noah, also applied to the same programmes for his chosen field of Orthopaedics but he lacked Bonnie's charisma and natural talent and only landed with a few interviews - only one of which was anywhere close to Caduceus Memorial who hadn't even shortlisted him for an interview. He ended up getting his eight choice programme in Texas, but two days later Bonnie was accepted into the surgical programme at Caduceus Memorial Hospital. A mixture of jealousy and knowing the distance wouldn't work ended the relationship and Bonnie moved to California ready to begin her surgical career. [/indent]
