While she treasures her solitary ventures into the wilderness of Earthica it is not for the absence of others but rather the connection with the wider world and the chance to hone her skills. Perhaps more than these moments she craves the company of others, whether that be in a raucous tavern or merely the presence of a close friend, it makes little different to her. Solitude is not something she fears but nor is it something she pursues. Calm with a mostly positive outlook, Laurel is the type of person one would want in a hazardous situation. Not prone to panic and with a practical, methodical manner of dealing with obstacles in her path she utilises both the immense patience and sudden alacrity a hunter hones. She is not, however, a leader. Independent for the most part, Laurel works from the back of the crowd where the spotlight does not touch her. In moments where leadership is not required she is happy to be the focus of attention but responsibility is not something she overly enjoys in abundance. History: Born to farmers, Laurel's assumed future had been to follow her parents and their parents also into a life of ploughing fields and administering the secret solution that brought in Earthica's famed harvests. For a time such an existence did not bother her, thoughts of higher station not of interest to her for she had no true ambition and, some may argue, still does not. She worked the fields alongside her parents, learning their trade between fighting with her two younger brothers. Food became scarce one year, more so than usual, and Laurel took upon herself responsibility to provide for her family. Unusual for one who avoided burdening herself at almost any cost, she snuck away from her parent's home and 'borrowed' a warbow from a guard station. Caught in the act, her natural talent as an archer, especially as a hunter, were revealed when she tracked down prey and slew them with near enough no true practice with the ranged weapon. Leaving the inheritance of an agricultural life to her younger siblings Laurel took up the bow, under tutelage, and joined the warrior classes of Earthica. Somewhat more prestigious than her previous life, her new lifestyle has brought her unwanted attention which she has struggled to take in stride and has led to her often lengthy forays into the wider wilderness. Ironically it is the experience from such ventures which adds most to her mystique although much of that is immediately banished on her first night back in a tavern, the taste of plentiful liquor a fatal attraction for Laurel. During her teenage years, early in the days after she had been caught appropriating the bow, she stumbled into a meeting with Princess Eve of Earthica in the forests she hunted in. They were similar in age and struck up a friendship, starting with discrete meetings in the secluded areas of the forest before escalating to Laurel entering the royal homestead. King Klaus approved of her lifestyle, that of a warrior although she was only freshly accepted into their ranks after years of proper practice with the bow, and that drove a small wedge between her and Eve but this was soon repaired and their friendship became the stronger for it. Weapons: A longbow, unadorned or embellished - small in size to allow for Laurel's slighter build but still more than deadly enough to punch through leather or even mail armour at one hundred paces. She of course carries a sheaf (24) arrows with her at all times, usually broad heads for hunting as they are easier to make but she holds stock of hardened bodkins for when the prey she hunts is human. A dagger - short, plain with a slight upwards curve at the tip. Functions as both a weapon and a tool for skinning if the need arose. Skills: Tracking - Laurel has spent a great deal of time roaming Earthica's territory, wandering amongst her people's fields with naught but her bow for company, and has become adept at spotting the signs a passing animal or person leaves behind. Time with the bow has given her sharp eyes to spot such leavings, even at a fair distance. Archery - needless to say, Laurel's main skill is with the bow. Whether it be for hunting, competition or battle she has a steely aim and a knack for hitting her target at the right place at the maximum possible distance. What she loses in power she makes up for in accuracy. Herbalism - Earthica's people are good with the natural world, specialists at growing their crops and even though she came by her learning second hand, Laurel's knowledge of herbs, medicines and related things is surprising although certainly not masterful. Scar(s): A single line running up the top of her left lower arm from wrist to elbow, pink and aged to the point it is not something that would draw focused attention. The result of an early, and poorly planned, encounter with wildlife which fought back, it taught Laurel a lesson in caution.
