Make no mistake however, and assume that this is the truth. They are logic-defying and eye-searing agglomerations of man and material incapable of emotion or independent thought. They follow every command their superior ordains no matter how cruel or violent the outcome. In the present time it is not uncommon to renounce all belief in the supernatural. It is also not uncommon to develop an obsession with HERALD. HERALD is the most popular game in the world, with millions of ravenous players across every spot of land on the planet. To call it just a card game is to disrespect the thousands of academies founded with the sole goal of creating the best generation of players possible. The standard way to play HERALD is with cardboard cards, each player jotting down however much damage is taken until it reaches zero. There is, however, a second way. A form of combat so mesmerizing that it has usurped every other sport on earth. Players submit to a machine known as a guardian angel, where they can enter another world and take part in real time virtual battles against one another. These special combat matches are known as tests of faith and have severely modified rulesets. The equipment required for it is expensive and the cards are made out of stranger and thinner materials that give them irridescent and near indestructable properties. Injuries to your true body can and will occur. Every inch of the building’s brutalist architecture is constructed out of bare concrete and made to intimidate. Duel arenas the size of high school auditoriums are constructed with the sole purpose of battle. Student meals posess an uncanny resemblance to military rations and the teachers are renown for their merciless methods in education. Due to a combination of raw talent and genetic disposition towards accepting the guardian angels, you have been singled out and selected as part of an elite team of heralds for reasons shrouded in mystery. You are partway through high school and are astonished at having caught the attention of world renown researchers. You are expected to comply with their strange demands, all while bonding with your fellow students and trying to find out who you really are. The way these strange men fawn over your kind exceeds standard curiosity. What do you believe in? Heart- The guardian angel will greatly numb the pain transmitted to your brain. The natural instinct of the human brain is to reject the guardian angel's intrusive protection, meaning that the less a brain resists the more it is protected against pain and all unpleasant sensations. It is the most favored of the three. Mind- Being connected wears out the mind just as much as the body. It is the capacity to not only survive, but thrive when connected to a server and faced with overwhelming odds. The amount of time you can spend traversing a landscape at peak conditions and the amount of time you can continue to invoke assistance without faltering are both a measure of the mind. Light- Your potential to affect the environment. Your proficiency in invocations, which will affect the maximum complexity and severity of the actions that you perform. I've seen people attempt card game roleplays before, usually struggling due to the overbearing need to stick to whatever complicated rules they have set up. In response to this, I've just removed most of them while still attempting to preserve the charm of card games, sort of. You will be a high school student in this school and will get to design your own deck around whatever theme you see fit. In order to preserve everybody's sanity, decks won't typically have more than five or so cards. A bigger plot will begin to unfold as you begin to uncover the secrets surrounding you.
