Those few years of braces as a kid paid off as his teeth are straight and he does everything he can to keep them whiter than freshly fallen snow. After the smile, he stands out for being tall; standing at 6'1, dark, and most importantly to him, handsome. Cal takes pride in his appearance; he works out, eats well, keeps his hair and goatee trimmed, and dresses well. Although he prefers a casual look he has plenty of nice clothes, and enjoys dressing up in nicer clothes and suits when he needs to. Ears are pierced, he likes a little bling, and he has a weakness for nice watches. He’s very confidant, which often comes off as arrogant, and he can be very stubborn at times and people he doesn’t know very well are not likely to sway his mind once it’s made up. Having grown up wealthy he’s not great with money management or understanding what it’s like to not be wealthy which makes him seem spoiled and entitled.

Actual Personality: Cal does his best to try and see the good in people, to keep a positive attitude, and strive towards his goals. While not exactly secretive he doesn’t normally talk about his personal life or heavy stuff unless prompted, he prefers to keep things light especially at work where there’s enough going on. In an emergency situation, he stays calm and collected, in fact the more stressed he is or the crazier the situation the calmer he seems to get. He’s generally even tempered, very few things set him off and he’s quick to try and diffuse conflict. He doesn’t like to upset people, and is quick to apologize when he has messed up. While he’s responsible at work he’s very much not when it comes to his personal life; he’s terrible at managing money, too proud to ask for help when he needs it, and trust people too easily. Pride is big for him, as is perfection at his craft. Calvin always exudes confidence although sometimes it’s just acting until he believes it himself, he can’t do his job properly if he’s doubting himself.

History: Cal's father is an incredibly wealthy and successful plastic surgeon while his mother was an divorce attorney. He was always a bright kid but his parents always expected more from him, they always wanted him to do just a bit better than whatever he did. He was sent to the best schools, had excellent tutors, and had just about anything he could want growing up. Eventually, after years of never doing good enough to earn his parent’s approval he stopped trying so hard, slacked off more and had more fun. If he was never going to well enough for them then he might as well not try so hard and enjoy himself more. Calvin knew about his father’s affairs well before his mother ever did, it’s one thing to know but an entirely different experience to walk in on it at the age of eleven. His father bought him a puppy in exchange for silence but didn’t work very hard to hide the fact that the affairs continued. He tried telling himself keeping his father’s secret was being a good son but the guilt ate at him. The happy family charade continued for another three years until his mother found out. His parents got divorced, he eventually told his mom that he’d know about the affairs which put a huge strain on their relationship. He went back and forth between parents with expectations he could never met and who only took interest in him to make the other one jealous or for bragging rights with friends. Calvin never really liked his father but after shadowing him at work for a day as part of a school assignment he realized he hated him. His father was shallow, his job and life were solely about appearances and money with nothing of substance underneath, and he cared nothing for his patients. Although that day he realized he wanted to be a doctor he knew he didn’t want to be like his father, he wanted to help save lives, to make a positive impact on the world. After that he worked hard at school but now for himself and not his parent’s approval. He took as many advanced classes as he could, did volunteer work at a hospital, and focused on getting into a good college. Although many try to say he got into Stanford because of his father, a Stanford grad himself, but he had been excepted to plenty of other great schools across the country. He worked hard, studied hard, and partied hard. He joined a frat, had a lot of great experiences, fell in love, got dumped, broke a few hearts of his own; the whole college experience. He just started med school when his mom died in a car accident, they had never really repaired their relationship and were barely talking when she died. It was hard, he drank a little more often, slept a little longer, and laughed a little less but eventually he moved passed it, focused on school more. He graduated, got his residency at Caduceus Memorial Hospital and feels like he’s on his way to achieving his dreams. He’s got no time for people who want claim he is where he is because of his father. He hasn’t asked his father for a thing other than tuition money since he was eighteen, he tries to dip into his trust fund and the money his mother left him as little as possible. Truthfully being self-reliant has been a challenge for him, finding an apartment with what the residency pays and living off that was much harder than he thought or realized.
