He is a highly talented musician and he knows it. His unusual childhood moulded him into the man he is today, his father’s nomadic lifestyle imbuing William with an easy charm, able to quickly blend into his surroundings, and quickly have strangers considering him a fast friend. And now, in his father’s absence, he continues that strange lifestyle, and it continues to mould him. William is a man of contradiction. He has the social grace and charisma to identify him as a member of the gentry, or even the peers, and he has certainly been known to mingle in those circles, and yet he possesses little wealth, and thanks to his father, no title. The only legacy that he has inherited is the ‘impossible’ quest. But he refuses to accept his standing in the world; he is all too aware of his good looks, and his talent, and he often uses the two without much thought for the consequences. Despite his own wildness, William does not shy away from the dangers of the Soulless. A naturally intelligent man, and possessing the heart of a lion, William was still a boy when the creatures began to appear, but he has quickly proven himself able to stand the test against this new evil. The pair lived an idyllic life, making Edinburgh their home, and when William, their only child, was born, they doted over him. William’s father was a truly talented violin player, and his music often echoed around the families comfortable home. William also took to fiddle playing, and even as a child, quickly showed potential. But this paradise was lost. William’s mother died suddenly, her health deteriorating almost overnight. The doctors that tended to her had no explanation, but Isaac did. He spoke of it in whispers to William. How the Devil himself had walked the streets of Edinburgh, had been drawn to Isaac’s music, and challenged him. The Devil made a wager, he offered eternal wealth, against Elizabeth’s soul. Isaac was blinded by the potential wealth, and by his vanity of his own musical talent, so he accepted the challenge. And he lost. That same night, Elizabeth died, and Isaac claims he saw the Devil dragging her soul down to Hell. Whether the story was true, or if the death of his mother had broken his fathers mind, it changed William’s life forever. Your personal life: After Elizabeth’s death, Isaac abandoned his old life. Selling everything he couldn’t carry, Isaac began a new quest, to find the Devil, to challenge him again, and to win back his beloved Elizabeth’s soul. For William, this meant his way of life changed all at once. In truth, William did not truly believe his father’s tale, but the new life offered him respite and distraction from his own grief, and so he took to it with relish. The father and son travelled across the length and breadth of Britain, following any clue, any suggestion that the Devil had returned. Those that watched them go by thought them mad, chasing superstition, pursuing an evil that didn’t exist. But soon, they would experience evil of their own. When the Soulless first began to roam, William and his father were amongst the first to realise the true-scale. Isaac thought the creatures were demons, sent by the Devil to stop Isaac on his quest, to guard Elizabeth’s soul, and even William found his cynicism challenged by the atrocities he witnessed. Their journeys quickly became more hazardous, but continue they did, travelling from town to town, forever pursuing their impossible quarry. Years passed, and Isaac lost his faith in the new gods. So he turned to the old, the gods that had been forced out by the stories of Christ. Chartering a ship to the north, the father and the son travelled to Scandinavia, training there, together, so that they could better defend themselves against the Soulless that sought to end their quest. All through their journey, Isaac trained William, both in the arts of the frozen north, and in the playing of the fiddle, the one possession that Isaac held most dear. Before long, William was a better player than his father ever was, and Isaac continued leading them all across Britain, striving for the chance to play a wager against the Devil again. It was a Hraew, a pack of them, that finally killed Isaac. William did all he could to save his father, but it was already too late. That was years past, and since then, William has taken a slightly different approach to the quest. He has allowed himself to linger longer in the towns and cities that he passes through, often enjoying certain... company while there, and peddling his fantastic musical talent for payment from the local gentry and peers. But nevertheless, some part of him still drives him onwards. He’s yet to meet a finer violin player than him, and he would gladly bet his own soul against his mother’s, should the right wager be presented. What you want for your life: Again, William becomes a man of contradictions. He is content with a future of pretty women, warm fires and an adoring audience, but some part of him still yearns for justice, or at least retribution in his parent’s names. He doubts the Devil himself truly walks across England’s fields green, but with the nightmarish creatures already roaming in the shadows, he cannot be truly sure. What memories he does have are fragments, the ghosts of moments that remain, of a beautiful angel, holding him in her arms, the sun streaming through bay windows, and her light humming as violin music drifted through the room. It is in Elizabeth’s name that Isaac endured his quest, and this has seeped into William as well.
💞/💓 [s]Isaac Fraser[/s] 💞/💓 "He always did what he thought was right" It is Isaac that raised William, and for much of William’s life, he was the only person that William could truly rely on. The two were close, but as William grew from a boy to a man, Isaac’s dogged pursuit of his ‘quest’ began to increasingly appear misguided. Regardless, William would never abandon his father, and he almost gave his life trying to save him the day he fell.
💞/💀 Viscount Joshua Harper 💞/💀 "The old man never forgave my father" Elizabeth’s father, and therefore William’s grandfather, Joshua is exceptionally wealthy, and increasingly powerful. With a respected family name, Joshua blamed Isaac for Elizabeth’s death, and saw his subsequent ‘quest’ as an escape from guilt. He turned a cold shoulder to his son-in-law, and even to his grandson. Never actively acting against Isaac or William, at least to their knowledge, Joshua has made it clear he does not consider them family. Jemima Moore is a ... unique woman. Fiercely passionate, highly gifted and strong willed, she is every upstanding gentleman’s dream and nightmare all at once.
