He surprised her by picking her up and she held on loosely trusting him not to drop her as he opened the door and placed her in the driver’s seat. Then he helped her across to the passenger side. He prompted her to explain the story. Siobhan sighed and laughed softly. “It’s so cliche. I’ll set the scene for you. Lunch time at the University. The cafeteria is peopled with students that, I swear to god, looked like they were reenacting a scene from Mean Girls. Now I’m not friendless but I like to keep clear of the pretentious jerks that populate that school. Case in point, the stalker. So I get my lunch and I go to class early. Well my solitude is intruded upon by a group of swaggering peacocks. Who were arguing that a carburetor is better than fuel injection. I let it go on for a few minutes but it was enough that I had to interrupt. Idiots with no concept of science. I was told that I’m a girl and I don’t know what I’m talking about. I’d had about enough of the fools and insinuated that their gasp on science was less than Jane Goodall’s chimps. Which I had to explain and once I did a challenge was issued. The wager of 5k was at the time enough and till I had my car. Somewhere along the boy became obsessed and it was starting to scare me.” Siobhan watched out the window as they grabbed coffee. “You live you learn. Seeing the signs is like living in the past and I’m not keen to relive that hell.” She looked back at Joel and grimaced. “I have taken up most of the conversation. So tell me what it is about Sol that you have lived here all your life? Is there some buried treasure that you’re looking for? Some old One Eyed Willy legend that you have yet to discover?” They drove around and enjoyed their coffee and Joel gave her some history on Sol City. She was always a sucker for a good story. She really enjoyed his company and they just seemed to fit together well. After her third jaw cracking yawn they decided that it was time to head home. Siobhan gave Joel a quick kiss in the parking lot. “There is a saying too much of a good thing and I don’t trust myself. Besides I have a feeling you know all the right buttons to push. Good night.”

-Wednesday Lunch-

Siobhan met her parents and Paige at a cafe in Riverside. Introductions were made and when asked what Paige did for a living they were on the subject of what her parents did for a living as well. Siobhan looked back and forth in the verbal tennis that ensued between her mother and Paige after some things were divulged and hinted at. Siobhan kept her face neutral knowing that whatever was on Paige’s mind she was only hitting the tip of the iceberg and for once someone was not being fully forthcoming with her mother. Her eyes would cut to her father now and again. He would nod and “humm” now and again but he didn’t see it either. Well she wasn’t going to tip Paige’s hand but something was bugging her. Her posture was relaxed on the outside but little things made red flags go off in Siobhan’s head. She doubted that anyone but Milo and herself would be able to see it. Paige was good she had her mother giving her number and the house number halfway through lunch. By the end her father had added his cell in case she needed anything. When boyfriends were brought up Siobhan caught flack for not introducing them to Joel yet. Her mother stressed that she wanted to meet him and Milo. They had practically adopted Paige. At her mother’s dropped hints about a dinner with all of them Siobhan rolled her eyes. Lunch over they went their separate ways.Siobhan handed Paige a box with heels in it. “Cause no one should wonder if they are wonderful.” She smiled and hugged Paige before they left.

-Thursday After Brunch-

Siobhan practically ground her teeth as she listened to Alexandra whine in the car on the way to the manor. Whine!! The woman was in her late thirties and she was whining like a spoilt teenager. “Fine!! I give!! There isn’t another place that has the potential to set the right atmosphere for the collection. Yes I know you looked and called around. I will smile and make nice. I refuse to listen to a grown woman whine so stop.” She shot Alexandra a look that could kill. As they were pulling up to the place she sneered. Yes this fits them. Overly extravagant and the property taxes would bankrupt anyone who wasn’t possibly padding their income with illegal. I don’t have to think nice things just say nice things. Siobhan stepped out of the car and followed Maria on a tour and listened to Alexandra and Maria plan agreeing on certain things and disagreeing on others. No band, a string quartet on the balcony above the main area fine with tasteful soothing music was fine. The acoustics up there were perfect for that, Maria’s input. Alexandra had the quartet covered. The ballroom for the collection, of course. Drinks in the conservatory. The garden would have to be tented and heated since they were looking at catering to about 200 people give or take a dozen or so. Last minute tickets could pop up. The caterers had enough for over 300 just in case. They were personal friends of Siobhan. Ginny’s mother and father. They always catered anything that Siobhan did, and she didn’t let them cut her a deal on it either. They were flying in tonight and staying with her parents. Siobhan heard Alexandra mentioning them and what time they would be over before the exhibit. Later that afternoon Siobhan called Joel. “Hey sexy.” She said after he picked up. “So you wanna come over tomorrow? Just Blue Moon, pizza and a movie. Nothing fancy. Besides I am going to get all that fancy shit tomorrow. Plus I need a night to unwind and talk.”
