Intro

"April 14th, 1959 - that was the day our world got flipped upside down. The first contact with a sentient being outside of Earth. The world governments were going crazy about this unknown life-form and why they came to our planet. It was simple, really - to colonize it. Except, we didn't realize that until it was too late. They claimed they were a poor people, seeking refuge from an outside force. At first, nobody even seemed to care for the technology they installed - it was just them trying to act like they were home. Soon enough there was alien tech running down the streets of our cities like lamp-posts. Then they started installing the tech into our workplaces, our schools, and then our homes. When we tried to intervene and push back, we were met with advanced weaponry so technologically superior that there was no hope for resistance....yet we never faltered. Like we always did. We proved too resilient, even in the face of great odds. That was always our history. Then they decided that the best way to fight us, was with us. They released a pathogen, reconstructing our DNA, our genes, our very core - and they made monsters. Humans with incredible powers to fight us, thinking they could sway our allegiance with gifts, and even going as far as the brainwash them. To their horror, even their own creations held on to that human spirit - or maybe it was that their newfound powers made them resistant to mind-control. We can never be too certain. What was certain was that we were winning. We drove them from our planet, forcing them to flee. And the ones who stayed? We rounded them up and killed them. Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of it. We saw these...'freaks' as something else - they weren't human anymore. Not in our eyes. Yet they were held as heroes and praised. It wasn't until years later, when they were no longer needed, that the first super used his powers for his own gain. We took that time passed to combine alien tech with our own and made them suffer. We forced them to stand down and controlled them. We fought them tooth and nail to make them accept solitary confinement forever or die resisting. And like that, there were no more supers in the world. We kept them in the dark, keeping their powers under control - or killing them on the spot. Proper measures were put into place by a new organization - The Vanguard. Tests are taken at the age of fifteen to figure out of the pathogen had evolved into mutations. I'm sure you know where this goes. But it doesn't matter now. The world is safe and we have The Vanguard." - Short speech from Lieutenant Colonel Farrow, now retired.
Welcome to The Vanguard - a roleplay set in an alternate 1989 where the arrival of an alien species years prior brought up a major technological and evolutionary breakthrough. Unfortunately, those with these powers are seen as monsters from a darker age now gone. In this roleplay, you will have the option of choosing whatever you please - so long as it fits into the story narrative. Here's the twist: every player will have a 1x1 with me to establish their origin story before meeting here. Instead, until we've finished our origins, the IC section will be used as a global news station, giving the character's the news or information broadcast around the world. This could include the escapades of villains or even their own characters, depending on the severity! But it doesn't even have to be a superhero - you could even play a Vanguard Agent, dedicating your work to hunting down supers and illegal alien tech alike. Or maybe you'd like to play as a villain and wreak havoc? The choice is ultimately yours and up to the way your origin story plays out! First, before we get into the character sheets, I just wanted to talk about the rules. I'm sure it's already quite simple with things like 'don't powerplay' and what-not, but keep in mind that this is a world with supers - if you're not super, there's a high chance your character could get beat down without the proper equipment. Romance is perfectly fine, but please keep anything too intimate private. If you have any questions on making an origin story, feel free to ask me for help! We can work it out together.
Factions

A globally funded organization with the intent of keeping supers down and locked away. Though their duties include the confiscation of illegal alien tech, supers are their main priority. Armed with firearms that allow them to suppress the pathogen inside of their bodies, The Vanguard are infamous for taking down the so-called 'freaks' with brutal efficiency. While they are not particularly cruel to those with these mutations, they have been known to be quite offensive and rude to them. All-in-all, whether they hate them or not, The Vanguard do their job - and they do it right.
More to be added
Character Sheet

-Appearance Here/Costume Appearance Here(if you have one)- Name: Alias: Age: Race(Yes, it is entirely possible to even be from another planet in your origin story. Some can even be made in the origin stories.): Alignment(Good, Neutral, or Evil - Neutral is the Anti-hero section.): Short-Bio(This will just give people outside the 1x1 a quick idea of your origin story - not as fleshed out as what will be roleplayed in the 1x1.):
