I've just had a lot of bad experiences with them going unchecked and often it's too easy for them to acquire all the powers of the other characters with little or no drawbacks. They either become redundant in team scenarios or make other players feel irrelevant by taking their powers.

I know they can be played really well, I just haven't seen it happen.
