Scott’s arm was around her and the stars were beautiful and everything about this moment felt impossibly right. “I can’t believe this is happening. I mean, two days ago you said we shouldn’t even talk and now…” Katie laughed and shook her head. “What made you even text me anyways?” Scott wished that she didn’t ask that question. The last thing he wanted to do while snuggling on the hood of his car with the girl of his dreams (literally, in this case) was talk about his crazy father. He didn’t have a choice though, if simply because their new relationship dynamic required honesty and clear communication. It could very well be a slippery slope, and it was best to be careful. So, Scott would talk about his crazy father. “Well… After that happened, I was kind of laying on the couch and moping around I guess. So, my dad sort of flipped the couch over and yelled at me? Then, he kicked me out and said I couldn’t come back unless I told you how I feel and came back with you. So I’ve been staying at AJ’s since.” There, honesty. Katie sat up, a perplexed look on her face. “I’m sorry, your dad kicked you out? Until you asked me out? That’s a joke right?” Katie asked, her now raised voice piercing through the soft silence they’d built. “No, not really. His exact words were ‘come back with the blonde bombshell, or don't come back at all.’ I called you a blonde bombshell.” Scott explained, shrugging his shoulders. To him, that was basically the end of it. “My dad is just kind of a dick. It's how he operates. It's not a big deal.” Mostly true. “Holy shit!” Katie slid off the hood of the car and stomped her way to the passenger side door. “Get in the car.” she said sternly. She was on a warpath now, and nobody, not even Scott, was getting her off of it. “Uh…” Scott watched the fire light up in Katie’s eyes, and decided not to even bother fighting it. Why should he? If what they had spent the last thirty minutes doing was any indication, then Scott and Katie were very much a team now, and if she was upset, then whatever. He’d just help her if he needed to. For now though, he just got in driver’s side, “why are we angry?” “I’m angry because some dumb man that I have never met is treating me like I’m some sort of quest item! I am not a fucking relic to be retrieved by you! I am a human fucking being! [sub]FuckingkickingyououtbecauseIwouldn’tgooutwithyou[/sub] Did he ever think that maybe I just didn’t like you! I mean, I did, but that is so besides the point!” Katie shouted, as Scott began pulling out of their spot, and back onto the road. “You gotta understand, this is just kinda how my dad operates… He’s sort of a dick.” Scott explained, shifting gears in the car as they headed back down the mountain. “He also has a way with words. So be warned that he might call you names, if you’re gonna yell at him.” It was fair to say that Scott sounded nervous, and reasonably so! His brand new girlfriend was about to verbally spar with his dad, who was known to say things there were very much not politically correct, while Katie was… Well, Scott didn’t want to be rude, but Katie was something of an activist. This was going to go poorly. [sub]“I’llshowyouawaywithwords”[/sub] Katie muttered, practically incoherent. She was seething. The drive to Scott’s house was quick, and quiet. As Scott pulled up, Katie hopped out of the car, barely even letting Scott throw it in park. By the time he was out, she had marched up to his front door and was pounding on it rapidly and forcefully, her blonde hair whipping about like a storm of yellow. “This is a bad idea.” Scott mused to himself as he opened his door and walked up to Katie, perhaps two steps too slow as the door flew open to reveal his father, who stood there silently for a brief moment, before he nodded. “You must be that Katie woman he’s always complaining about. I see my son grew a pair. Shame. I was hoping to turn his room into a pool hall.” Katie looked up at the imposing figure that was Scott Lyon’s father and let forth a typhoon of pure, unadulterated, Callaghan fury. “Who the fuck do you think you are? Telling your fucking son to go fetch me, or move out? Do I look like a fucking trophy to you? Do you see these?” Katie paused to point at her chest before continuing, “And think, oh look just another object? I have agency over myself, and my body you sexist piece of shit! Nevermind the fact that you just kicked your own kid out for not meeting your own standard of toxic masculinity! Men are not conquerors they do not have to fuck girls to earn respect! Your kid is a fucking genius, and he is kind and deeply annoying and he talks way too much about cars and you should like him just as much as I do!” Katie sat in the aftermath of her tidal wave of words, breathing heavy. “And just in case I didn’t say it already, fuck you!” Scott’s father stood there, watching with a bemused look on his face, leaning against the doorway. One she finished, he first looked past her, and to Scott with a simple statement. “I like her.” Scott sort of nodded, before Mr. Lyon re-affixed his gaze onto Kaite, “Scott’s done nothing but bitch and moan about you for almost two years now, and then he comes home one night and lays on the couch watching bad Netflix comedy specials.” At this point, Scott wanted to speak up: Dave Chappelle was a classic, and his old stuff did not suck. But, he thought better of it. “I shake my head, figuring he’s just being a pussy about something and that it’ll fade away within a couple of hours. But it didn’t. He just fucking laid there for like twelve fucking hours, and I didn’t raise a fucking pussy. So I flipped the couch over and motivated his ass, and clearly it went well. You’re welcome.” Katie glared at Scott’s dad, her lips pursed and her teeth grinding together, not completely sure how to react to this development. “You sound like a prick,” Katie said tersely, crossing her arms and cocking an eyebrow, and then turning to Scott. “Lead the way,” she said, unfolding her arms to gesture towards the front door. Scott gave a bit of a nod to Katie before he walked past her and grabbed her hand, pulling her along past his father and into the house. From behind them, his father added one last quip: “I am a prick, bitch.” But if he said anything past that, it wasn’t audible. Scott was hurrying along the winding corridors of the mega mansion with speed and purpose. Once he arrived at his room, he turned the doorknob and threw it open to reveal a… surprisingly clean and well-kept room, with the centerpiece being a very large bed with the blankets and sheets tucked tightly underneath it. Scott pushed the door shut behind him and clicked the lock. “You’re so fucking hot.” Scott’s sentence ended with his arms around Katie and his lips pressed against her. The purpose of why he was hurrying was very suddenly abundantly clear. Katie smiled and returned the kiss. After a few moments of making out, an activity that Katie had recently (as in, within the last few hours) decided that she liked quite a bit, she pulled back, grinning. “Does it not strike you as a little weird that me lighting up your dad gets you in the mood?” Katie asked, smirking. “It is a combination of that, the taste of your lip gloss, and the fact that I have you alone in my room with the door locked. This might not happen again for some time. We already wasted like years hating each other… let’s not waste seconds when we like each other.” “Those are all very valid reasons,” Katie said, leaning in for another kiss before leading him to his bed, for some time that was decidedly not wasted.
